Deep Rothé is an animal that can be found in the Underdark in Act One of the game. Druids can also wild shape into them using Wild Shape: Deep Rothé Wild Shape: Deep Rothé.

About[edit | edit source]

Deep Rothé[1] are common beasts in Faerûn, mostly used as a beef breed and beasts of burden; one of the common supplies that the party may find around or buy from traders throughout the game is  Grilled Rothé Ribs. Deep Rothé are a sub-species of common Rothé, adapted to live in the Underdark. Rothé much resemble herd beasts like musk-oxen or yacks in appearance and probably share similar their temperament and behaviour.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

The Underdark is the only place in the game where the party might meet these huge and stately animals. They are sentient and can be spoken to via Speak with Animals Speak with Animals, which may offer a way to resolve quests that the party is currently involved in or provide some details about present and future plot affairs.

There are six Deep Rothé, which the party can meet and speak to throughout the game:

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. Deep Rothé is an uninflected term. This means the singular and plural forms are identical. Similar terms include Sheep and Bison. Rothé both fits the English pattern for uniflected plural nouns and in the game files there is only a single occurrence of the word "Rothés" which is presumably erroneous as every single other time the game refers to a group of Rothé, it says "Rothé".
