Mimics are very much ambushers, using their ability to disguise to take their enemies by surprise. When a character approaches a Mimic while disguised, they will make a [[Perception]] [[Skill Check]] at [[Difficulty Class|DC]] 20. If failed, that character will be [[Initiative|Surprised]] as the fight starts.
 
The best approach when fighting a Mimic is to make ranged attacks from a distance. Mimics have only half the movement speed of most enemies and most of their attacks are close range. Just be careful that your party is positioned so that their [[Pseudopod Lash]] attack does not pull a party member down a chasm or off a cliff face (which can happen while fighting the Mimics in [[Grymforge]]). It is also wise to keep extra weapons on hand in case a character has theirs eaten by their [[Bite (Mimic)|Bite]] attack.

Mimics are a type of Monstrosity creature in Baldur's Gate 3. They often resemble ordinary chests and devour unaware prey that attempt to open them.

Mimics can transform to take on the appearance of ordinary objects, often resembling that of treasure chests. They lie in wait and grow long tentacles and reveal sharp teeth, feasting on unaware prey that get close.

Mimics can be found at the Grymforge and Moonrise Towers.

Just be careful that your party is positioned so that their Pseudopod Lash attack does not pull a party member down a chasm or off a cliff face (which can happen while fighting the Mimics in Grymforge). It is also wise to keep extra weapons on hand in case a character has theirs eaten by their Bite attack.

Because of their low Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma, Mimics are vulnerable to the many spells involving such Saving Throws.

They are also immune to being knocked Prone.
