- In the room where Minsc can be recruited in the Lower City Sewers there are several items which are related to the following characters:
- A cracked wooden mask for Dynaheir (human wizard, companion in Baldur's Gate 1),
- A halfling-sized warhammer for Mazzy Fentan (halfling fighter, companion in Baldur's Gate 2),
- A pair of carved wooden wings for Aerie (elf cleric/wizard, companion in Baldur's Gate 2),
- A turnip for Jan Jansen (gnome wizard, companion in Baldur's Gate 2) and
- A a mailed fist for Keldorn Firecam (human paladin, companion in Baldur's Gate 2)
- Xan (elf wizard, companion in Baldur's Gate 1) and his magical sword are mentioned in One Night in Nashkel. It may be a coincidence, but if the party successfully secured the Gith egg from the crèche, didn't give it to Esther, and Lae'zel confronted Vlaakith (or stayed neutral) and took the egg, she will appear in the epilogue. The player can ask her of the fate of the egg then. Lae'zel will answer that a male gith youth has hatched from it, and that she called him Xan - 'Freedom', and left him with some mages to educate.
- Yoshimo (human rogue, companion in Baldur's Gate 2) is mentioned in Yoshimo is Willing.
- A grave X: 31 Y: 13 in the Lower City mentions Branwen (misspelled as Branwem on the grave) who was a cleric companion in Baldur's Gate 1. She was also in the tutorial of Baldur's Gate 2, teaching the player about clerical abilities.
- Jon Irenicus - the main antagonist in Baldur's Gate 2 is mentioned in

- If Minthara does not trust that Dark Urge is in control of their actions there is an option to reply "An omnipresent authority figure controls all of my actions". This is a reference to Jaheira's line when you click on her portrait in the old games ("Yes, oh omnipresent authority figure?")
Act III[edit | edit source]
- When Sceleritas reveals the Dark Urge's past to them at Wyrm's Crossing, he recites a twisted version of a Friedrich Nietzsche quote, which was used in the opening cinematic of the first Baldur's Gate game.
- The Whispering statues in the Bhaal Temple recite Alaundo's prophecy from the previous games.
- Whispering Statue: The lord of Murder shall perish...
- Whispering Statue: ...but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny.
- Whispering Statue: Chaos will be sewn from their passage.
- Whispering Statue: So sayeth the wise Alaundo.
- Viconia's battle cry is a direct quote from her old games' battecry. (L'il Alurl! For Shar!)
- If Lae'zel chooses to go against Vlaakith Gale will comment "Glad to see I'm not the only one on the wrong side of an opnipotent authority figure." Once again this is a reference to Jaheira's voice line in the previous games.
