Dead Mind Flayer can be found in the Goblin Camp during Act One.

Involvement

Act One

The dead mind flayer can be encountered in the Shattered Sanctum during Dror Ragzlin Dror Ragzlin's questioning. If Ragzlin is killed before he casts Speak with Dead Speak with Dead on the corpse, the party can instead question the mind flayer. Upon casting the spell, the player character immediately recognises the mind flayer as responsible for abducting them and implanting their parasite.

Speak with Dead

The dead mind flayer can be spoken to with Speak with Dead Speak with Dead.

Party member: Tell me who the Absolute is.

  • Dead Mind Flayer: Fractured images fill your mind: curved drow blades, crude goblin torches, gnoll teeth dripping blood. You see other mind flayers arranged in a serene circle. Absolute unity. Absolute power.
    • Party member: What does the Absolute want from the goblins?
      • Dead Mind Flayer: You see Dror Ragzlin writhe. A tadpole clings to the mind flayer's fingers. The goblin king bows, obedient. The flesh of his tribe becomes the flesh of the Absolute.

Party member: Why did you abduct me?

  • Dead Mind Flayer: Dark, empty pods flicker across your vision. They demand new flesh.

Party member: How do I get rid of this parasite?

  • Dead Mind Flayer: You see the tadpole in the mind flayer's hand. Not a parasite: perfection. Rebirth is sloughing flesh. A new skull housing cold, sharp intellect.

Party member:' Why did the dragon-riders attack the ship?

  • Dead Mind Flayer: You watch through the creature's eyes as it curses the star-born slaves. They want the ones from the ship. Darkness and sun, barely contained.

Party member: Are there more of your kind nearby?
