Brakkal is a goblin in the Shattered Sanctum.
Praise his ever-bleedin' axe, praise his throne of flamin' iron. Praise Maglubiyet!

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

Brakkal is being held in a wooden cage at X: 268 Y: 10 for refusing to abandon his faith in MaglubiyetMaglubiyet to that of Absolute. The wooden cage hanged from the ceiling above the chasm is locked and trapped and kills him if it is opened without disarming it. The cage door requires DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check to disarm and DC 10 Sleight of Hand Check DC 10 Sleight of Hand Check to lockpick.

Talking to Brakkal while he is still in the cage and subsequently freeing him grants Saving the HereticSaving the Heretic inspiration to party members with the AcolyteAcolyte background. The passive DC 7 Religion Check DC 7 Religion Check rolled during the dialogue seems to have no impact on acquiring the inspiration, although ClericsClerics of evil Deities pass this check automatically.

Disarming and unlocking the cage without previously speaking to Brakkal appears to break the inspiration and escape trigger, granting the experience due, but no inspiration.

Companion approval[edit | edit source]

  • [NON-CLERIC] Gods are fickle. Maglubiyet doesn't give a damn about you.
  • [GITHYANKI] My people build cities on the corpses of gods. Yours does not impress me.
  • [PLANAR] I find all of Faerûn's gods rather tiresome.

Any of the above: Laezel approves +1 Shadowheart disapproves -1

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Shooting the platform under him does not grant experience when he falls into the chasm.
  • If the spiders from the pit below are released and survive the fight with the goblins, they kill Brakkal if he is freed.
  • To get the experience, the party must free him, then kill him, and – if the spiders were already released – enter turn-based mode and kill him before he enters the spiders' line of sight.
