Brakkal is being held in a wooden cage at X: 268 Y: 10 for refusing to abandon his faith in Maglubiyet to that of Absolute. The wooden cage hanged from the ceiling above the chasm is locked and trapped. They key to safely open the cage can be stolen or looted from Warrior Clack. Without the key, the cage door must be disarmed with a DC 15 Sleight of HandCheck before lockpicking it with a DC 10 Sleight of HandCheck. Otherwise the trap explodes and breaks the flooring, letting Brakkal plummet to his death.
Talking to Brakkal while he is still in the cage and subsequently freeing him grants Saving the Heretic inspiration to party members with the Acolyte background. The passive DC 7 ReligionCheck rolled during the dialogue seems to have no impact on acquiring the inspiration, although Clerics of evil Deities pass this check automatically.
Using the key or disarming and unlocking the cage without previously speaking to Brakkal appears to break the inspiration and escape trigger, granting the experience due, but no inspiration.
Shooting the platform under him does not grant experience when he falls into the chasm.
If the spiders from the pit below are released and survive the fight with the goblins, they kill Brakkal if he is freed.
To get Brakkal's 20 experience, the party must free him and quickly defeat him. This is more easily done by moving to turn-based mode immediately after he thanks the party for his release. This is especially true if the spiders were already released, as they may quickly kill him if he enters their line of sight.
