The Defiled Temple (also known as the Temple of Selûne) is a Location within the Shattered Sanctum in Act One of Baldur's Gate 3. It serves as one of the entrances to the Underdark.

Overview[edit | edit source]

An old temple dedicated to Selûne Selûne, which has since been abandoned, the Defiled Temple can be accessed through its main door in Priestess Gut's quarters in the Shattered Sanctum X: 253 Y: -7, through a cave mouth in the spider pen, or through a small hole in the Zhentarim's stock room.

Gut's room[edit | edit source]

Inside a small bedroom is Polma Polma (and Gut Gut if the player character was knocked out by her). In a gilded chest near the bed is an Amulet of Misty Step X: 386 Y: 8. As well, a Selûnite Journal is found nearby, which gives information on the moon tile puzzle further in the temple.

Moon tile puzzle[edit | edit source]

A long descent down into the Underdark can be revealed by solving a puzzle in this room. In the north-eastern section of the Defiled Temple is a room with four tiles in the centre. The puzzle is solved by rotating the tiles such that the new moon icons (black circles) are all on the southern-most ring.

  • The puzzle can be solved by interacting with the tiles in the following sequence: (note that this is only one of many possible solutions)
  1. North
  2. West
  3. East
  4. East
  5. South
  6. South
  7. South
  8. West
  9. West
  • Alternatively, there is a hidden lever in the north part of this room, near a set of stairs, that can be revealed with a Perception check X: 442 Y: 64. This lever can be lockpicked to bypass the puzzle and open the way.
