Steal the Sacred Idol

Steal the Sacred Idol is a Quest in the Druid Grove in Act One of Baldur's Gate 3. It can be initiated by speaking with Mol after earning her trust by helping the various tiefling children in the Druid Grove.

Objectives and journal entries may vary pending story decisions and outcomes.
Walkthrough[edit section | visual editor]

In order to receive this quest, the party must be on good terms with the tiefling children in the Grove. A variety of quests influence how Mol sees them:
- Find Your Belongings - Not threatening the tiefling children
- Investigate the Beach - Saving Mirkon from the Harpies
- Return the Locket - Resolving the conflict with Meli keeping the locket
- Save Arabella - Saving Arabella from Teela
The most effective way to gain Mol's respect is to rescue Mirkon. He informs the party about the location of the tiefling hideout and the password needed to enter, allowing a simple path forward. Once inside, Mol greets the party and thanks them for all the good deeds they've done for the children. Choosing Thought you might need help with something results in Mol requesting the party steal the Idol of Silvanus as revenge for hurting Arabella and the other tiefling refugees. Agreeing to steal the idol starts the quest. If not choosing the dialogue option to help Mol the party is locked out of the quest and its reward.
Stealing the Idol[edit section | visual editor]
The Idol of Silvanus is in the center of the Sacred Pool X: 243 Y: 507 right in the middle of the Rite of Thorns ritual and surrounded by druids.
Combat[edit section | visual editor]

Stealing the idol while the ritual is underway starts a cutscene where a signal is given and the druids commence a pre-arranged slaughter of every tiefling within the Grove. The druids also become hostile to the party with the notable exception of Rath and Silver who side with the tieflings. As the fight happens in real time, careful planning is required to avert a massacre. The final stand takes place in the makeshift prison where all the tiefling civilians are holed up. If enough of them are killed then Save the Refugees fails.
Assassination[edit section | visual editor]
If the druids in the ritual circle are killed through Stealth, the party can safely take the idol. The quest says "now the druids are attacking the tieflings" but the massacre cutscene does not trigger and no such attack occurs.
Peacefully ending the rite[edit section | visual editor]
Completing the quest Investigate Kagha, Save the First Druid, or Defeat the Goblins, ends the Rite of Thorns. Once the rite ends, this quest can no longer be started, and stealing the idol no longer immediately triggers grove wide combat – making it significantly easier to finish this quest if it was previously acquired. The idol can be discreetly stolen. Even if the party is caught, combat can be averted with a DC 15 Deception or Intimidation Check. Alternatively it is possible to steal the idol and fast travel away before being confronted about the theft.
Quest Reward[edit section | visual editor]
Notes[edit section | visual editor]
- After completing the quest, the idol can be bought back (or pickpocketed) from Mol, allowing the idol's bonuses to be kept. The price depends on the character's Charisma and standing with her.
