Bloated Hyena

Bloated Hyena is a hyena variant located along the Risen Road in Act One.

Overview

Bloated Hyenas serve as incubators to newborn gnolls and 'give birth' in a grisly eruption if not dispatched quickly.

Involvement

Act One

One of the Bloated Hyenas can be spoken to by using  Speak with Animals, allowing the party to eliminate it before it gives birth by passing a  DC 12 Dexterity Check. Alternatively, a successful Arcana save allows a paladin to attempt a  DC 10 Charisma Check, or a cleric to attempt a  DC 10 Wisdom Check, to bless the hyena and prevent the gnoll birth.

Failing to stop the gnoll birth results in the party being  Surprised at the start of the subsequent combat, and a  gnoll being added to the opponents.

Notes

• If the hyena is under the effect of  Dominate Beast, then  Yeenoghu's Hunger has no effect and no gnoll spawns.^[verify]
