Dishevelled Chicken is a Beast potentially found in the Goblin Camp in Act One. A plaything for the Goblins, the frightened poultry is constantly being chased by Mezzka Devout Mezzka or being forced to take part in Krolla Krolla's chicken chasing games.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

The Dishevelled Chicken can only be encountered in the Goblin Camp if the party has not thoroughly explored other parts of the Wilderness yet. Long resting after having met the Owlbear, regardless if it survives, as long as the cub is not harmed, sets a series of unfortunate events in motion which result in the chicken being eaten by the Owlbear Cub Owlbear Cub. Consequently the cub will replace the Chicken.

Even if using Speak with Animals Speak with Animals, the chicken is too distressed to form coherent answers. However, while playing the chicken chasing game, the party can communicate with it:

  • [PERSUASION] Urge her to attack them. (DC 20)
  • [ANIMAL HANDLING] Urge her to attack them. (DC 20) (during the chicken chase game)
  • [DRUID] [INTIMIDATION] Wild things do not beg for help. They protect themselves. (DC 5)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] You are a noble fowl. Fast. Sharp. VENGEFUL! (DC 5 Advantage Icon.png)

Choosing either of the above options will result in the chicken going into a mad rage, the whole camp turning hostile to it, and quickly killing it.

  • What's wrong? (The chicken talks about its dire situation.)
  • I'll help. Just run through the posts and you'll be free. (This will make the chicken run to the end of the course and quickly finish the game.)
  • Shoo her towards the posts. (During the chase, will also make the chicken run to the end of the course)
  • Oh shut up and play. (Just makes the chicken more distressed.)

Unfortunately there is no way to actually free the Dishevelled Chicken. In any case, it either dies or gets chased again.

The chicken can be killed without turning the goblins hostile, though the party cannot play chicken chasing anymore unless the party leaves the Goblin Camp, encounters the Owlbear, takes a long rest, after which the Owlbear Cub gets taken to the camp.
