Timber, meeting the party

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

Timber patrols the area of the Emerald Grove below Nadira Nadira, at the top of the elevator above the Sacred Pool. If a character without Speak with Animals Speak with Animals active interacts with her, she immediately bites them (but inflicts no damage) for trespassing on her territory.

The party can choose to either kick the squirrel or study her behaviour.

  • [DEXTERITY] Kick the squirrel. (DC 10) Astarion approves +1 Wyll disapproves -1 Karlach disapproves -1
  • [DEXTERITY] Kick her. (DC 10) (if using Speak with Animals) Astarion approves +1 Wyll disapproves -1 Karlach disapproves -1
  • [ANIMAL HANDLING] Study the creature's behaviour. (DC 10)

If a party member kicks the squirrel, Timber will smack against a tree and die. If the party member fails to kick her, they can try one more time.

If the party study the squirrel, they learn that this is Timber's territory, and they have several further options to scold or threaten her:

  • [ANIMAL HANDLING] Scold her with a click of your tongue. (DC 10)
  • [INTIMIDATION] Get out of here. Now. (DC 10)
  • [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] ROAR. (DC 10 Advantage Icon.png)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] Growl threateningly. (DC 10 Advantage Icon.png)

If using Speak with Animals, she tells the party immediately that this is her territory, and the party member can respond:

  • All right, you win. I'm leaving. (ends conversation)
  • [GITHYANKI] [INTIMIDATION] I'm not to be trifled with, creature. (DC 10)
  • [INTIMIDATION] Back of, squirrel. Or I'll make you. (DC 10)
  • [PERSUASION] There's plenty of room for both of us. (DC 10)
  • [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] ROAR. I WILL EAT YOU. (DC 5)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] I could eat you whole - you can pretend I'm gone, once you're in the dark of my belly. (DC 5)
  • [WIZARD] [WARLOCK] [SORCERER] [INTIMIDATION] One word and I can fry you to a crisp. (DC 5)
  • [BARD] [INTIMIDATION] Let me pass, or I'll spread word about this wonderful patch of land ripe for the taking. (DC 5)

Successfully passing all ability checks grants a Hyena Ear and results in a compromise between the party and Timber.

Dark Urge[edit | edit source]

If the The Dark Urge is chosen as Origin, interacting with Timber without Speak with Animals will automatically result in her death. If Speak with Animals is active, choosing the dialogue option Last words I won't remember will kill the squirrel without a check.

Regardless, killing Timber earns Inspiration Icon.png Indulge Thine Appetites for the Haunted One background.

Companion approval[edit | edit source]

  • [DEXTERITY] Kick the squirrel. (DC 10) (Note: Astarion seems to only approve if it is known that this is Timber's territory.) Astarion approves +1 Wyll disapproves -1 Karlach disapproves -1
  • [THE DARK URGE] My instincts are sharp, daggered things. Stay out of their way. Karlach disapproves -1 Shadowheart disapproves -1Wyll disapproves -1 Astarion approves +1
  • [THE DARK URGE] It came right at me! Karlach disapproves -1 Shadowheart disapproves -1Wyll disapproves -1 Astarion approves +1
