Involvement
Act One
If he survives the Goblin attack and stays in the Druid Grove, he will have his mother's Brass Locket stolen by Meli and will chase and confront him.
The party can either side with Meli by criticizing Barth:
- [PERSUASION] You're the one making threats - to a child. Pull yourself together. (DC 10) +1 +1 +1
- [PALADIN] [INTIMIDATION] Whatever you do to the child, I'll repay ten-fold. (DC 5) +1 +1 +1
- [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] Strike the child, go on. See what happens. (DC 10 ) +1 +1 +1
- [INTIMIDATION] Raise a hand to that child and you'll lose it. Your choice. (DC 10) +1 +1 +1
- [TIEFLING] [PERSUASION] Just warning. I've dealt with your type before, human. (DC 10) +1 +1 +1
Or they can side with Barth:
- You better do what he says, boy.
- [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] DO AS HE SAYS, OR JOIN THE SNAKEBITTEN GIRL IN HER GRAVE. (DC 5 )
- [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] Thieving children wind up dead around here. Do as he says. (DC 5 )
- [INTIMIDATION] Better do what he says, boy. There's already one thief to bury today. (DC 5) -1 -1 -1
- [TIEFLING] [PERSUASION] Just give it back, boy. You're better than this. (DC 5)
- [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] That bauble worth a thrashing? (DC 15 )
- [INTIMIDATION] Do you really want to take a beating over some jewellery? (DC 15)
- [PERSUASION] You're not fooling anyone, boy. Why'd you take it? (DC 5)
Alternatively, the party can opt to do nothing, which will lead to an altercation where Barth slaps Meli who will then call in Ikaron
If Ikaron joins in, he will question why Barth is threatening a child and the party can either allow Meli to keep the locket:
- There's no locket. This bastard's just throwing his weight around.
- [PERSUASION] Nobody's hurting the boy - he's free to leave when he wants. (DC 15)
- [TIEFLING] [PERSUASION] I'm the one looking out for the boy. (DC 10)
...or make him make Meli return the locket:
- [DECEPTION] Just a misunderstanding. The boy was about to give Barth his locket back. (DC 15)
- [BERSERKER] [INTIMIDATION] I kill meddlers. ARE YOU MEDDLING? (DC 15 )
- [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] I like meddlers - they make funny noises when I smash them. Are you a meddler? (DC 15 )
- [INTIMIDATION] Meddlers are even worse than thieves. You're not meddling, are you? (DC 15)
If the party allows Meli to take the locket, it can later be recovered from the Tiefling Hideout and returned to Barth. He will then give backstory about the locket and its importance to him.
The party can further request the locket back from Barth after hearing his story. If the party presses him for the locket it will result in Barth and his crew becoming hostile and attacking the party.
Leaving the grove
If Aradin's adventuring group left the Grove, they are ambushed by goblins on the way to the Blighted Village. Barth and Aradin are the only survivors and will leave after speaking to the party. Barth does not show up again.
