For the class action to transform into this creature, see Slayer (Class Action).

Slayer is a unique form that especially dedicated Bhaalspawn may assume in Baldur's Gate 3.

My Chosen. My Slayer. Violence incarnate. You will become a testament in blood.
— Bhaal awarding a dedicated Bhaalspawn for their unwavering favor.

Violence incarnate

The Slayer form is a powerful ability granted to the most dedicated follower of Bhaal. It usually appears as a form Orin the Red takes during her boss battle, and functions very similarly to Wild Shape or being Polymorphed. The user of the form takes on all the statistics of the Slayer, and all of their actions are replaced by the Slayer's own. With a powerful multiattack, a distance-closing leap, a devastating single attack, as well as an action that can inflict bleeding, the Slayer is an especially powerful form allowing the user to tear through their enemies with ease.

Background HauntedOne Icon.png Spoiler warning! This section reveals interactions with The Dark Urge.

It is possible for The Dark Urge to obtain this form during Act 2 by either killing Isobel, their lover, or the companion with the highest approval toward them. Alternatively, they can obtain this form during Act 3 by defeating Orin and accepting to become Bhaal's Chosen.

If they had already acquired the Slayer form before Act 3, The Dark Urge will be given the option to transform into it during their dialogue with Orin before their duel, in which case she will fight against them in her standard humanoid form. Conversely, access to the Slayer form will be permanently lost if The Dark Urge refuses to become Bhaal's Chosen after defeating Orin.

Concentration Icons.png Spoiler warning! This section reveals details about the story of Baldur's Gate 3.

A few characters within the history of Baldur's Gate have gained the ability to use the form of the Slayer.

Previous appearances

The Slayer Form is a returning ability present in Baldur's Gate 2. It first appeared in Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn as an ability granted midway through the game.

The Slayer is only one of three avatars of Bhaal: a shapeshifting one called Kazgoroth, a human-sized one named the Slayer, and a giant named the Ravager. While only the Slayer appears within Baldur's Gate 3, the Ravager appears in Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal as the protagonist's "taint" due to being a Bhaalspawn, while Kazgoroth is a separate creature, described as either a minion or Avatar of Bhaal in some circumstances.

Notes

  • The Slayer form will gain Slayer's Extra Attack at level 5, and Slayer's Improved Extra Attack at level 10. This will not stack with the normal Extra Attack of most martial classes or the Druid class's Wild Strike.
  • Piercing Growl Piercing Growl is unlocked by reading the book Regarding the Slayer as The Dark Urge. This book can be acquired by saving Volo outside the Steel Watch Foundry and meeting him back in your camp.
  • Similar to Wild Shape, the player cannot speak while in Slayer form, but unlike Wild Shape they will not be able to temporarily shapeshift into their normal form to talk to companions. They are also unable to take certain actions that require the ability to speak, such as activating the Filigreed Feywild Bell. This can also cause certain cutscenes to 'break'. (E.g. the cutscene that plays upon witnessing the army on the Road to Baldur's Gate before defeating Ketheric Thorm will be skipped, resulting in the entire party being thrown in prison without the dialogue option to prevent it).
  • The Slayer's attacks are not considered 'magical' for the purpose of ignoring resistances. This means a player-controlled Slayer will deal half damage to enemies with non-magical resistance to bludgeoning/piercing/slashing damage (e.g. Wraiths), and no damage to enemies with non-magical immunity to bludgeoning/piercing/slashing damage (e.g. Werewolves).

What works in Slayer Form

Unfortunately, just like the Druid class's Wild Shape, many items, feats, and class passives do not work while in the Slayer form. This is an inexhaustive list of what does and does not work:

What partially works

  • The attack roll bonus of Tavern Brawler does work but the damage roll bonus does not.
