“I am the danger, and I am the cure. they erased my people; I will erase theirs.„
Overview[edit | edit source]
Background[edit | edit source]
Glut was the sovereign of a myconid circle, now displaced after duergar killed its people. Without a circle, Glut took shelter with Sovereign Spaw's in the Ebonlake Grotto. However, it holds some resentment towards Spaw for not giving aid during the attack.
Involvement[edit | edit source]
A brooding Glut can be found just inside the western entrance to the Ebonlake Grotto. Walking close to it will initiate a dialogue.
Recently displaced, and without a home or circle, Glut will ask the party to describe their own home. Depending on race and origin, the party can answer in several ways. Afterwards, Glut shares its memory of its fellow Myconids slain by the duergar. If the party has already spoken to Sovereign Spaw, Glut will ask to travel with the party and kill the duergar, or if they have already been slain, to see their corpses.
Once they have been taken care of, Glut will rejoice at the sight of the dead duergar, and proclaim that it is now the "Age of Glut". It will ask the party to eliminate Spaw, as there can only be one Sovereign of the Grotto. The party can aid Glut or refuse, in which case it becomes hostile and must be killed.
If Spaw is killed, Glut declarers itself "King of Kings" and takes control of the circle, beginning a new song – a chant of war.
Combat[edit | edit source]
Glut can reanimate creature corpses as spore servants using Animating Spores, keeping up to one spore servant at a time. High-value targets that you can re-animate include:
- Bulette
- Hook Horror
- Minotaur
- Phase Spider Matriarch - unavailable in Tactician and Honor mode: If pushing her down the central chasm - landing location is near the Minotaurs / Selûnite Outpost
It is also possible to reanimate creatures that only appear in other areas by carrying their corpses into the Underdark in a character's inventory and dropping them on the ground for Glut to access.
A spore servant that dies again cannot be reanimated again.
If it turns hostile, Glut empowers itself with , increasing its size, health, damage, and spell pool – adding , and to its repertoire.

Notes[edit | edit source]
- Glut does not trigger the effects of hazardous mushrooms such as Bibberbang or Torchstalk when passing near them. As such, rescuing Baelen Bonecloak as part of Find the Mushroom Picker is a trivial task for Glut.
- As of patch 4, spore servants raised by Glut now have spellcasting blocked. However, if you use Death Ward and kill them, you can remove the block and use spells as the spore servant.[Needs Verification]
- Glut will only follow the party while they remain in the Underdark. When traveling to the Campsite from an Underdark location, Glut will accompany the party, though at the camp he will not be directly controllable and will just wander around.
- If Glut dies while a spore servant is active, the spore servant will persist as long as it has hit points remaining, but it will no longer be controllable by the player or follow the party. Unless the party harms it, it will remain neutral and hang around the area where it was when Glut died.
