IT'S FISTING TIME!
Shovel's battle cry

Overview[edit | edit source]

Unlike regular quasits, Shovel has unique dialogue and can be interacted with after summoning her.[1] Her name can be changed to Fork or Basket through dialogue.

Shovel is a carefree and upbeat fiend that finds joy in murder, arson and eating babies. She is impatient and very easily gets bored, but in spite of her irreverent demeanour, Shovel can be deeply loyal, even when denied the pleasures of violence. Shovel is terrified of Storm Sorcery and Wild Magic Sorcerers, stating that she doesn't like their "thunder magic and pain". She loves dragons, though, and as a Draconic Bloodline sorcerer and/or Dragonborn, convincing her the interacting party member is a dragon will make her very excited. If failing to convince her, she will react disappointed and call the party member a "fake dragon", and she will no longer be afraid.

Summoning and permanently acquiring Shovel[edit | edit source]

Through the Scroll of Summon Quasit found in the Apothecary's Cellar there are two ways of summoning Shovel:[2]

  1. As a permanent spell by speaking to Shovel with a Warlock, Wizard or Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer after summoning her with the scroll (but not by a wizard who scribed it). This spell is not lost on respeccing.
  2. The scroll can also be scribed by Wizards, adding Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit Find Familiar: Cheeky Quasit to the wizard tab in their spellbook. Like all spells scribed by Wizards, it persists through respeccing, but only amongst your Wizard spells. If the character who scribed this spell stops being a Wizard, they will lose access to Shovel until they become a Wizard again.

History[edit | edit source]

Shovel was owned by the necromancer Ilyn Toth, who was a cruel and neglectful master. He would often verbally and physically abuse her as well as forget to feed her. In spite of this, Shovel enjoyed working with her former master.[3]

Combat[edit | edit source]

Attacks and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Similar to other Find Familiar Find Familiar summons, Shovel excels at providing chip damage and harassment in battle. Defensively, her fragile body is at best a distraction against most enemies. Her Invisibility skill is particularly useful for scouting out enemy positions and initiating fights via surprise attacks

Unlike ordinarily summoned quasits, Shovel has her own unique lines when using her actions. Just like all Familiars, Shovel can drink Elixirs, but increasing her Strength doesn't help her since her attacks always use Dexterity.

Notes & references[edit | edit source]

  1. Shovel is referred to as she in the description of the Steam achievement Rude, Crude, and Full of Attitude: Find and summon the quasit Shovel. Or is her name... Fork? Maybe Basket?
  2. As of Patch 7, only one character can learn how to summon shovel. If a Wizard scribes this spell, another Warlock, Wizard, or Sorcerer will be unable to get the "spell-shite" dialogue that grants Shovel as a familiar. Before Patch 7, by scribing the scroll on a Wizard and then talking to Shovel with another eligible character it was possible to learn the spell for two party members.
  3. Dialogue with Shovel, when spoken to in Apothecary's Cellar
