The Shadow-Cursed Lands is the main Act Two region. Encompassing Reithwin Town and its surroundings, the area is almost entirely shrouded in the namesake shadow curse which rapidly drains the vitality from affected creatures, transforming them into Shadow-Cursed Undead and Shadows.
In the areas further from Moonrise Towers even mundane light (such as torches or ) can stave off the effects of the shadow curse, but in the areas closer to the Towers only the effects of a Moonlantern or will provide sufficient protection. Additionally, some locations in the Lands such as Last Light Inn are protected from the Curse by other effects.
If a member of your party wanders into the shadow curse unprotected, the game will automatically enter Turn Based Mode. The party member then has 1 turn to generate or relocate to a protective light source. Failure to do so will lead to them suffering Necrotic damage.
Overview
Access
The Shadow-Cursed Lands has two points of entry; travelling through the Rosymorn Monastery Trail, or through an elevator in the Grymforge.
Regional locations
Due to its immense size, the map of the Shadow-Cursed Lands features several nameless locations with unique elements, or locations that only appear named on the player's minimap. To help navigate this region, the locations below may include adjacent nameless areas of the Shadow-Cursed Lands.

Eastern locations
Ruined Battlefield
The Ruined Battlefield spans the majority of the eastern section of the Shadow-Cursed Lands. It is the first location when entering the region, encompassing a number of landmarks, such as shadow-creature ambushes and the House in Deep Shadows.
When entering the region from the Grymforge, the party will begin at the very north tip of the battlefield, closer to the Last Light Inn. Otherwise, entering from the monastery trail will place the party at the south-eastern end, closer to Rethewin Town.
Last Light Inn
The Last Light Inn is a refuge from the shadow curse, located across a small bridge north-west of the Ruined Battlefield. The Harpers and Flaming Fists are set up here, including High Harper Jaheira.
The cleric Isobel at the inn can give the party , which gives a rudimentary protection from the shadow curse. As well, if the player did not encounter the Absolutist caravan while entering the Shadow-Cursed Lands, they will begin a quest with the Harpers to obtain a Moonlantern for safe passage through the curse.
Western locations
Reithwin Town
Reithwin Town spans the majority of the western side of the Shadow-Cursed Lands. This town was previously home to worshippers of Selûne, now destroyed by Shar's curse.
The town has a number of sub-locations, including the House of Healing and the Reithwin Tollhouse. South of the town is a bridge to Moonrise Towers, north is the Grand Mausoleum, and to the east is a transition point to Baldur's Gate, which may only be used after the finale of Act Two.
Moonrise Towers
Moonrise Towers is the seat of the Absolute, located south of Reithwin Town. Like Last Light Inn, the towers are not affected by the shadow curse, due to the many moonlanterns set up around the area.
Grand Mausoleum
The Grand Mausoleum is located north of Reithwin Town, past the graveyard and House of Healing. It is owned by the Thorm family, and is the resting place of Ketheric Thorm's late wife, Melodia.
The mausoleum is notably the entrance point to the Gauntlet of Shar, a crucible for anointing Shar's Dark Justiciars.
