Overview[edit | edit source]

Linsella was gifted by the Absolute the ability to "rewrite the lives of her faithful". Her ability enforces the condition Dominated Will Dominated Will on creatures, and allows her to control them. It is possible Linsella is controlling the True Soul gnolls who can be found along the Risen Road with Flind.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act Two[edit | edit source]

When first meeting Linsella, she stands in Moonrise Towers' kitchens training Barnabus 'Barnabus', with the other gnolls 'Timothy' 'Timothy' and 'Tomelia' 'Tomelia' nearby.

She offers to demonstrate her domination over the gnolls by forcing 'Barnabus' to dance or pray, during which his primal rage attempts to rebel against her hold.

Sever her control[edit | edit source]

The party can sever her control, allowing the 'Barnabus' to murder his master:

  • [DARK URGE] [WISDOM] Compel the gnolls to pulp their master. (DC 16) Astarion approves +1 Halsin approves +1 Karlach approves +1 Lae'zel approves +1 Minthara approves +1
  • [WISDOM] Sever her control once and for all. (DC 16) Astarion approves +1 Halsin approves +1 Karlach approves +1 Lae'zel approves +1 Minthara approves +1

Successfully doing so rewards inspiration for Urchin Urchin, Charlatan Charlatan, Haunted One Haunted One backgrounds.

If freed from domination, the gnolls attack the party unless another ability check is passed:

  • [PERSUASION] Easy! I freed you - I'm a friend. (DC 16)
  • [INTIMIDATION] Try it - I dare you. (DC 16)
  • [BARBARIAN] [INTIMIDATION] Match it growl for growl. (DC 16)
  • [ILLITHID] [TRUE SOUL] [WISDOM] Now, now, Barnabus - behave. (DC 14)
  • [RANGER] [ANIMAL HANDLING] The creature thinks you prey - adjust your body language to display as a threat.' (DC 16 Advantage Icon.png)

The Dark Urge does not need to pass a check to pacify the gnolls because they are recognized by 'Barnabus': "...he grovels with a howl of pining awe..." and offers a few more lines of dialogue.

Reinforce her control[edit | edit source]

Alternatively, the party can reinforce her domination:

  • [DARK URGE] Put aside dreams of mincing her. Help her take back control. Astarion disapproves -1 Karlach disapproves -1 Minthara approves +1
  • Reinforce her efforts with your own. Astarion disapproves -1 Karlach disapproves -1 Minthara approves +1

Linsella compliments the party and rewards them with a Severed Arm, and inspiration is gained for the Entertainer Entertainer or Charlatan Charlatan backgrounds.

Do nothing[edit | edit source]

  • It seems you're not as commanding as you think.

If the last option is chosen, 'Barnabus' collapses and dies from the mental strain.
