Nerela was a Tiefling refugee in the Hollow. She was never finished, and was cut from the game before the release of the Early Access version, though her model, animations, dialogue and interactions still remain in the game files.[1]

Involvement[edit section | visual editor]

Nerela could have been encountered in the Emerald Grove, on a rocky ledge behind MattisMattis. She was to be in the possession of a Music Box, playing The PowerThe Power as the party approached her; Nerela would tell the party that her husband used to make music boxes for their daughter to keep her distracted. During her family's flight to Baldur's Gate, they stumbled upon a pack of gnolls that soon killed Nerela's husband and daughter, with the music box being one of the few possessions she still has left. She would mention that she heard entry into Baldur's Gate would require coin and bribes, while she has nothing to her name. The party could then offer to buy the music box from her, be charitable and give her gold, or tell her to accept Auntie Ethel'sAuntie Ethel's offer of purchase instead.

However, if a party member instead inspected the music box and passed an Insight check, this would have revealed that Nerela had been lying the whole time, shedding fake tears and making up an elaborate sob story to get party members part with their coin. The tiefling conwoman would then reveal her scheme and state that she needs the coin to enter Baldur's Gate, as the guards there fish for bribes. Nerela could then be forced to leave with the music box through Intimidation or Detect ThoughtsDetect Thoughts, be applauded for her acting skills, or the party members could still give her some gold, which she would accept and then tell them to watch out for the tiefling children, calling them the real swindlers.
