Derryth Bonecloak is a gold dwarf and trader in Ebonlake Grotto. She can be found impatiently waiting near the western entrance to the Myconid Colony for her husband, Baelen, to return from picking mushrooms. She can later be found at Bonecloak's Apothecary in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate.

Overview

Background

Derryth and Baelen Bonecloak run Bonecloak's Apothecary in Baldur's Gate. Needing to restock on of the more popular and expensive items at their store, Noblestalk, they travelled to the Underdark.

The two set up a temporary camp in Ebonlake Grotto with a myconid colony, and Derryth sent Baelen off to collect the mushroom.

Quests

Involvement

Act One

On the western edge of the Myconid Colony, the player will find Derryth pacing in front of a tent and grumbling about her missing husband, Baelen. When talking to her for the first time, she asks if the player has seen her husband. If not, she can be asked about Baelen which will reveal—alongside her low opinion of him—that she sent Baelen on an errand and he hasn't returned yet. She welcomes the player to look for him, but refuses to pay any ransoms if he is found and returned to her.

If Baelen is rescued, then Derryth will reward the player with the Gloves of Uninhibited Kushigo. She begrudgingly thanks the player and explains that she and her husband are in the Underdark collecting Noblestalk, a mushroom with incredible restorative abilities. She needs it to save their shop in Baldur's Gate after Baelen nearly ran it bankrupt to pay for alcohol. If the player mentions that they found some Noblestalk, Derryth asks for it though she has nothing to offer in exchange. If the player gives Derryth the mushroom, she will thank them and encourage them to visit her shop in The Gate — Bonecloak's Apothecary.

Act Three

If Baelen was rescued, he and Derryth may later be found at Bonecloak's Apothecary in the Lower City.

If Baelen was not rescued, then Derryth will be running the store alone, melancholy when thinking of her late husband and lamenting that they both deserved better. She believes that Baelen's soul found its way to The City of Judgement, wasting away unclaimed as a faithless. The player can encourage one of three cats near the store —Myshka, Malta, or Barsik— to join Derryth in her shop so that she's less lonely.

If Derryth was given the Noblestalk, then she will sell 3 Noblestalk in her shop.

Otherwise, if Baelen was rescued and the player used the Noblestalk to heal him, he will be running the store alone and will not have any Noblestalk to sell. Derryth can be found in the Elfsong Tavern, where she thanks the player for healing Baelen since it led to her finally leaving him for good. She comments that she doesn't have much to her name now but the freedom and peace of mind is worth it.

Notes

  • After being given the Noblestalk, Derryth mentions that she'll be on her way and informs her husband that they're leaving. Despite this, they do not actually leave Ebonlake Grotto during Act I.
  • Derryth has always had a secret desire for an unseen character named Glumbor.
  • In previous updates, it was possible to give the Noblestalk to Derryth, pickpocket it back, and then use it for another NPC (Baelen, Thulla, Shadowheart, etc), while still retaining the later gains of the Noblestalk that Derryth could supply in Act 3. This is no longer possible without the use of mods or cheats. Derryth will still hand off the quest reward for giving her the Noblestalk, but upon arrival at her store, she still will be in dire straits, and there will be the dialogue option to give Derryth the Noblestalk, if the party still possesses it. Upon doing so, Derryth will then sell the additional three (3) Noblestalk as if you never had pickpocketed it from her.
