Musical Instruments

Musical instruments can be equipped and used with the Perform action. Bard characters will also use their instruments when casting spells.

Playing an instrument

Instruments can be played with the Perform action, utilising a Performance check to distract and gather NPCs. A successful check can result in being tipped with gold.

In order to play an instrument properly, a character must have the musical instrument proficiency, granted by taking a level in bard, taking the Performer feat, or successfully performing with Alfira in the Emerald Grove.

If a character is proficient with musical instruments, but does not have one equipped, they can still use the Perform action by Whistling.
