Breaking your Oath
Main page: Paladin
The Oathbreaker Knight will appear to players who have broken their oaths, and tell them he'll be waiting at Camp. The player can then question the Oathbreaker about his story and duties. The Oathbreaker Knight will reveal he was the first Oathbreaker, who broke his oath when he disagreed with the cruel ways of his patron, for which he was shamed. Since then, he has guided other Oathbreakers after failing to fulfill their oaths.
The player can then agree to become an Oathbreaker, or wish to remain pure. If the player chooses to remain pure, the Oathbreaker Knight will demand a sum of gold equal to the bounty people put on his head when he broke his oath.

— Oathbreaker Knight, when attacked |
A decision of dubious practicality, it is nevertheless possible to fight the knight in your Campsite. Doing so will turn all nearby Camp followers (including Scratch and the Owlbear Cub) and Companions (who aren't in the current party) hostile unless the Oathbreaker Knight is the one who starts combat (which can occur if you are caught pickpocketing him).
His body cannot be looted upon defeat, but he will drop a Greatsword +1, Elixir of Heroism, and three Javelins on the ground when slain, and a Pouch containing Plate Armour will spawn on his former corpse after a Long Rest.
Withers will still refuse to respec an Oathbreaker paladin if the Oathbreaker Knight has been killed. Because the Oathbreaker does not respawn in camp after long rests, this will effectively lock any Oathbreaker character out of respeccing for the rest of the run. Reclaiming an oath, then killing Oathbreaker Knight, then breaking the oath again will in effect permanently lock a paladin into a permanent state, as the Knight won't be able to induct the character into the Oathbreaker subclass.
Abilities
Oathbreaker Knight has the typical ability kit of a high-level Oathbreaker paladin wielding a Greatsword, including one Channel Oath charge and 10 Spell slots.
