Camp Events/Act One are scripted events that can occur at the Campsite during Act One. Below is a list of camp events and their requirements.

First night contemplation

Result:

  • The player character contemplates all that's happened to them and path forward. Origin characters reflect on their backstory.


First ceremorphosis night

Cancelled by:

  • Crossing the forest river
  • Entering the Emerald Grove
  • The third ceremorphosis night

Result:

  • This scene takes place before the player ends the evening. Recruited companions contemplate the situation and discuss next steps. While WyllWyll and KarlachKarlach have dialogues for this camp event, they are rarely seen in normal gameplay as it's hard to recruit them without cancelling the night.[1]


Second ceremorphosis night

    • First night contemplation
    • First ceremorphosis night
    • Entering the Emerald Grove

  • Crossing the forest river
  • The third ceremorphosis night

Result:

  • This scene takes place before the player ends the evening. Recruited companions contemplate transforming; many comment that it is strange that no symptoms have shown yet. While KarlachKarlach has dialogues for this camp event, it is rarely seen in normal gameplay as it's hard to recruit her without cancelling the night.[1]


Third ceremorphosis night

  • At least one of the following:
    • Obtaining the quest to find HalsinHalsin
    • Learning about the Goblin Priestess from SazzaSazza
    • Learning about the Gith patrol from ZorruZorru

Result:

  • Recruited companions discuss next steps now that the party has a lead for a potential cure. While KarlachKarlach has dialogues for this camp event, it is rarely seen in normal gameplay as it's hard to recruit her without cancelling the night.[1]


First Dream Guardian dream

Result:

  • First, the player character appears to be very sick. Then Lae'zel threatens to kill them, as she thinks the player character and everyone else are transforming into Mind Flayers. After talking her down, it is possible to go to sleep. During their dreams, the player character is visited by the Dream Guardian, who vows to protect them and suggests consuming additional Mind Flayer tadpoles to unlock new powers. After this event, the player character is able to unlock Ilithid Powers. This event is also automatically played if they travel to the Rosymorn Monastery Trail or Shadow-Cursed Lands albeit without scene of Lae'zel threatening to kill them.


Second Dream Guardian dream

  • The Dream Guardian will visit the player character in their dreams again, commenting on whether or not the player character has been consuming other tadpoles and on potential progress of ways to try and get rid of the tadpole.

  • During long rest the Mysterious Artefact will somehow show up at the players belongings. This is a fallback since the artefact is mandatory for the story progression.

Astarion sneaks off

  • This event happens during one of the earlier Long Rests. Astarion can be seen sneaking away from camp while the party is asleep.


Astarion attempts to bite player's character

    • Entering the forest
    • The second ceremorphosis night happened

  • Learning that Astarion is a vampire through his verbal confession after entering the Underdark

Result:

  • The player character suddenly wakes up and catches Astarion trying to bite them. Here, it is revealed Astarion is a vampire spawn. The player character can decide whether to let Astarion bite them, kill him, or banish him from the camp. There is bonus dialogue if the player character has spotted the exsanguinated boar Astarion previously drained in the Wilderness, or met with the Gur hunter. If the player character has not yet learned that Astarion is a vampire, this event is automatically played if they travel to the Rosymorn Monastery Trail or Shadow-Cursed Lands.
  • In multiplayer campaigns, Astarion prioritizes biting the player character who recruited him.

Astarion's mirror

Result:

  • Holding a mirror, Astarion laments that he can no longer see his own face. The player can tell him what they see or what they think of him.


Astarion reads the Necromancy of Thay

  • During the next long rest Astarion will be reading the necromancy, hoping it will give him an edge over Cazador.


Astarion is drunk from a bear

  • Astarion will have a conversation while he is intoxicated on blood of a bear. If this event plays out in the Underdark the player can remark there are no bears and Astarion will be unclear on the details.


Astarion ponders each party member's taste

  • Astarion admits that the player character was the first humanoid he ever bit. He wonders what the other party members, like GaleGale and Lae'zelLae'zel, taste like.


Astarion's first romance night

  • Accepting Astarion's proposal to have sex with him when he offers it.

  • Astarion and the player character share a night of passion. Going through with the night starts a romance with Astarion.


Astarion's second romance night (no scene)

Result:

  • Astarion tries to entice the player character into another sexual encounter, paying compliments and finally even confessing his love (though admitting quickly and readily it is an obvious lie). Choosing "I think it's better if we leave last time as a once-off" ends the relationship with Astarion. If the player character agrees to spend the night, there is no additional romantic scene; it is simply implied.


Gale's orb needs sating

Result:

  • If the party rush through through the Wilderness without giving Gale a magic item, a Long Rest is forced where Gale's urgency requires the party give him an artifact to sustain the Orb. Failing or refusing to do so causes Gale to leave the party permanently.[2]

  • Gale consumes another item and tells the player's character it has less effect.


Gale is grateful for the third magic item

  • Gale consumes another item which has almost no effect. He will finally reveal why he really needed those items to all party members.


Elminster visits Gale

  • Finding ElminsterElminster near the entrance to the Shadow Cursed Lands at either the Mountain Pass or after using the elevator in Grymforge and inviting him to camp. This event is notable for triggering during daytime and can also trigger when taking a Long Rest if the party have ignored Elminster in either of his spawn locations.

  • The player character finds Gale sorrowfully gazing upon the magically conjured image of MystraMystra. If asked about her, Gale first tries to put on a good face, but after a successful DC 5 Insight Check DC 5 Insight Check tells the player character that it was a portrait of Mystra. He offers to help the player character experience the Weave with him. He shows them how to put into effect all three components necessary for a person to invite the Weave inside and channel it through: the physical, the verbal and the spiritual component.


Goblin celebration

  • The Goblins appear at camp and throw a party. This event also allows the player character to initiate romantic encounters with the companions at a much lower approval rate compared to otherwise. This event is also the only time a sexual encounter with Minthara can be triggered.
  • It also grants the Slaughter's PrizeSlaughter's Prize to party members with the CriminalCriminal background.


Halsin joins camp (Rite of Thorns completed)

  • Halsin will show up at camp, noting he has nowhere else to go since he cannot face what has happened to the grove.


Halsin's revenge (Grove raided)

  • Halsin will appear one night to confront the party on siding with Minthara in massacring the Grove before personally attacking the party.


Karlach wants to see Dammon

  • Karlach warns the players character that she is not feeling very well due to her engine heating up. She wants to catch up with Dammon so he can potentially fix it.


Flirting with Karlach

  • Karlach visits the player character at night and has a romantic talk with them. This event potentially starts a romance with Karlach. Due a bug in the script, this event can only be triggered during the Tiefling Refugees' Celebration.

  • Karlach reminds the player character to find a way to cool her down. If the player succeeds in doing so, it is possible to briefly kiss Karlach.

Result:

  • At camp during an evening, some time after the initial sex scene, an exclamation point may appear above [!] her head. If spoken with, Lae'zel observes she has, on several occasions since their first night together, caught the player character looking at her "with lidded eyes" and perhaps, as she sees it, wants to sleep with her again. If agreeing with her assessment, she reminds them she never promised to be with them more than once. If agreeing but promising to stop, she deflects, answering, "I did not say it was unwelcome." With either choice, she playfully challenges the longing player character with an offer: "Tempt me.". Any response except declining results in approval and her approaching them upon a long rest, followed by another implied sex scene which happens off-screen.


Lae'zel's love duel

  • One night, Lae'zel wakes the player character to confess that she is obsessed with them, and that the intensity of her feelings unsettles her. She demands a duel, insisting the player character proves their martial prowess to show they are worthy of her obsession. Regardless of who wins, the player character has the option to progress their romance with her after the fight.

  • Voss arrives at camp and attempts to sway Lae'zel to his side after the events of the Creche. The player character can push Lae'zel to either agree or disagree, potentially putting her on her Orpheus path.

Lae'zel realizes she needs to visit the Crèche

  • The player character and Minthara two meet later at night at the campsite altar. After the sex cutscene, the player character wakes up with Minthara in their arms. They can choose to focus on her desire, or do a DC 15 Wisdom Check DC 15 Wisdom Check to push deeper into her fears. Minthara admits she did not feel the presence of the Absolute and confesses she felt strangely comfortable in her moments free from it.

  • The Owlbear cub visits the camp at night and asks for some food. If given some food, one of the companions scares him away. The player character can scare it away themselves as well. The encounter has different options if the player character has Speak with AnimalsSpeak with Animals active.


Owlbear Cub joins camp (second appearance)

  • The Owlbear Cub returns and is wounded on one of his legs. If the player character succeeds a skill check to heal him, the Owlbear Cub becomes a permanent Camp Follower. Like the previous event, the options differ using Speak with AnimalsSpeak with Animals.


Owlbear Cub's nightmare

  • The Owlbear Cub has a nightmare about the Goblins torturing him with Scratch comforting him in his sleep. Like the previous event, the options differ using Speak with AnimalsSpeak with Animals.
  • If the option to pet both Scratch and the Cub is picked, an achievement is unlocked.

Pet Scratch and the owlbear cub at the same time - the greatest joy an adventurer could ask for.

Shadowheart's wound flare

  • The player character does not know about Shadowheart's wound in her hand.

Result:

  • Shadowheart's wound suddenly flares one night as punishment by SharShar for trusting in the player character. By talking to her about it, it can be revealed that Shadowheart worships Shar.


Shadowheart's investigation

  • The player character knows about Shadowheart wound during her camp night.

  • Shadowheart investigates the Mysterious Artifact she is currently holding, which gives the player character a chance to either ask or read her mind about it.


Shadowheart's first romance night

  • Shadowheart and the player character share a romantic evening which can result in a kiss. This event can start a romance with Shadowheart. This event only is only triggered if the party long rest in the Wilderness and is not triggered in the Rosymorn Monastery Trail or the Shadow-Cursed Lands; after entering Shadowfell this event can no longer be triggered and the player can no longer start a romance with Shadowheart.


Shadowheart and Lae'zel fight

  • During the night, one of the two is awoken by the other, who holds them at knifepoint (this could be Shadowheart seeking to get rid of Lae'zel or Lae'zel demanding answers from Shadowheart depending on whether or not Shadowheart was saved in the Nautiloid). Things can turn violent, with one possibly killing the other and other party members possibly getting involved. Or they can bury the hatchet. This event only is only triggered if the party long rest in the Wilderness and is not triggered in the Rosymorn Monastery Trail or the Shadow-Cursed Lands; after entering Shadowfell this event cannot be triggered anymore.


Tiefling Refugee celebration

  • Zevlor and the Tiefling refugees appear at camp and start a celebration before leaving for Baldur's Gate. The choices prior to this event determine who appears during the feast. This event also allows the player character to possibly initiate romantic encounters with more than one companion, and at much lower approval rates than otherwise required; it also grants the Guardian of the ForgottenGuardian of the Forgotten to party members with the Folk HeroFolk Hero background.


Withers joins camp

Type: Camp follower  (WithersWithers)

Requirements:

  • Either:
    • Reaching the courtyard of the Goblin Camp
    • Progressing the story to a certain point[verify] without meeting Withers in the crypt

  • Withers joins the camp permanently as Camp Follower and offers his services.


Withers offers hirelings

  • Withers extends his services by offering recruiting and resurrecting hirelings for the party.


Recruited Wyll threatens Karlach

Type: Companion  (WyllWyll and KarlachKarlach)

  • Having Wyll at camp while recruiting Karlach

Result:

  • Wyll threatens Karlach at camp. This conversation plays out similarly if the party take him to Karlach. He can be easily convinced that Karlach is no devil and can be invited as a companion. It is also possible to kill him or Karlach instead.


Unrecruited Wyll threatens Karlach

  • Recruiting Karlach to the party before recruiting Wyll.

Result:

  • Wyll appears at the campsite and threatens Karlach. This event is very similar if Wyll is already recruited and either stayed at camp or was taken along to Karlach. He can be easily convinced that Karlach is no devil and can be invited as a companion. It is also possible to kill him or Karlach instead.


Wyll proposes an alliance

  • Wyll expresses his wish to stay allies with the player character until cured.


Wyll is rewarded for killing Karlach

Result:

  • During long rest Mizora will appear at camp and introduce herself to the party. She will reward Wyll with Infernal Robe but not undo Wyll's pact due to a technicality.


Wyll is punished for sparing Karlach

Result:

  • Mizora appears at the campsite to deal with Wyll. Wyll is turned into a devil as punishment for failure to uphold his contract. After this, more dialogue options for Wyll are unlocked. This event is also played automatically if the party travel to the Rosymorn Monastery Trail or Shadow-Cursed Lands while Wyll is alive.


Astarion's first nightmare

Type: Origin  (AstarionAstarion)

Requirements: None

Cancelled by:

  • The companions knowing that Astarion is a vampire.

Result:

  • Astarion dreams about his past with Cazador SzarrCazador Szarr and how the vampire lord forbade him from drinking the blood of sentient beings. When Astarion wakes up, he realizes he is free from Cazador, allowing him to drink the blood of one of the companions. Choosing to do so, prompts a skill check. If Lae'zel, Shadowheart or Wyll are chosen and the skill check succeeds, Astarion is able to feed and must pass a Saving Throw or the affected companion permanently dies. If the skill check fails, they wake up and confront Astarion about his vampirism. If the Persuasion or Deception check are failed, the affected companion leaves the party. Gale always wakes up since Astarion cannot feed on him because of the Orb and Astarion does not bother with Karlach because of the infernal engine in her chest. While Karlach technically can be chosen as the victim and has lines for it if he is caught, doing so requires very specific actions such as not Long Resting until the party return to the Wilderness from the Shadow-Cursed Lands after she gets her second upgrade from DammonDammon and avoiding any companion confronting him on his identity.


Alfira appears at camp

Requirements:

  • Cross the Forest river.

Result:

  • After initiating a Long Rest AlfiraAlfira appears. Her dialogue depends on how the party treated her and when they encountered her before. No matter the outcome of the dialogue, she stays the night at the camp, but is killed by the Dark Urge at night. The Dark Urge then has to either hide the body through succeeding a DC 12 Stealth or Strength Check DC 12 Stealth or Strength Check check or convince their companions they were innocent through succeeding a Persuasion check. The difficulty class for the persuasion check varies depending on whether or not the player character cleaned the blood off and how they chose to do so. It is also possible to blame Astarion if they know he is a vampire. Doing so causes him to lose approval. Alternatively, the player character admit to the murder. This event is also played automatically if they travel to the Rosymorn Monastery Trail or Shadow-Cursed Lands.
  • If Alfira is already dead or knocked unconscious on the day this event is triggered, the campsite is visited by Quil GrootslangQuil Grootslang instead, and she is then killed instead of Alfira. If Alfira was knocked unconscious she later can be met at the place where she was knocked out and, after the camp celebration, can also be encountered in the Last Light Inn in Act Two.

Result:

  • Sceleritas FelSceleritas Fel, the butler to the Dark Urge, appears before them and congratulates them on the murder of Alfira or Quil. He then gives the Dark Urge the The Deathstalker Mantle as a reward. This event is also played automatically if they travel to another region and no other mandatory camp events are on queue.


Karlach's engine keeps her up

  • Karlach tries to sleep, but has difficulties due to her infernal engine heating up. She blames ZarielZariel and Enver GortashEnver Gortash for it and recalls trying to catch up with Dammon.


Tara joins camp

Result:

  • Upon the first Long Rest TaraTara appears. She notes Gale's somewhat ill appearance, and expresses concern. She also provides Gale with a magic item, the Ring of Evasion, that he can consume when he awakes, to prevent the Netherese Orb from detonating. She remains within the Campsite as Camp Follower.
