This page contains all inspirations which can be earned within Act One of Baldur's Gate 3. To unlock an inspiration the character must be in the active party.
Anywhere[edit | edit source]
These inspirations can be earned throughout the game, beyond Act One.
General[edit | edit source]
- Acolyte background. : Resurrect anyone in the party.
- Noble background. : Have at least 2000 gold among the party.
- speaking with the dead. Sage background. : Glean some wisdom from
- Soul Coin. Noble background. : Acquire a
Combat[edit | edit source]
- Haunted One background. : Kill 5 enemies in a single round.
- Soldier background. : Kill 5 enemies in a single turn.
- Haunted One background. : Defeat 5 neutral creatures in a single round.
- Soldier background. : Survive a fight in which the player character kills ten or more enemies.
- Damage type. Haunted One background. : Get at least one kill with each
- Soldier background. : Defeat a powerful foe in one strike.
Dialogues[edit | edit source]
- Haunted One background. : Follow the Dark Urge.
- Haunted One background.
- Dark Urge choices are untagged, but are often violent and use a thinner font. Must specifically pick a choice that indulges or resists the Urge, not just ignore it.

- Use illithid persuasion 7 times. Game can bug and give "True Soul" title earlier than intended.

- Persuade them to shoot the cage open to fight Lae'zel together, then "attack the tieflings" through dialogue choice.

Overgrown Ruins[edit | edit source]
Enter the

- The party must pass any ability check or class dialogue to make their way into the chapel.
: Solve the encounter with bandits peacefully by dialogue and enter the chapel.
Dank Crypt[edit | edit source]
Read the Book of Dead Gods:
- Acolyte background. : Unlock and read the Book of Dead Gods.
- Sage background.
- The party must pass any ability check or class dialogue to unlock the book and read it.

Release

- The button on the left side past the large statue of a cloaked figure must be pressed. The party must then kill all the undead and open the large sacrophagus.

Makeshift Prison[edit | edit source]

then :- Smuggle Sazza out of the grove. Criminal background.
- The party must protect Sazza from Arka, then agree to break her out. Escorting Sazza out of the grove prevents Smythin from spawning and prevents the party members from getting any inspiration involving him. However, it is possible to escort her out after rescuing Smythin at the goblin camp.

Underground Passage[edit | edit source]
Save
:- Folk Hero background.
- The party must heal him with a spell or throw a healing potion at him. Sazza must not be with the party when doing so.
: Save Findal from the goblins who kidnapped him.
Tiefling Hideout[edit | edit source]
Loot the
:- Criminal background.
- The party must loot the chest in the corner in the Tiefling Hideout without getting caught.
: Steal from the tiefling children's stash without making enemies of them.
Talk to
:- Urchin background.
- Helping several childen in the Grove eventually leads to this option. Might be bugged. If saving all children first, the option does not appear. The party must side with Perception check while in the trading screen and waiting a few seconds to let them steal, speak with , pass DC 10 Investigation or Perception check, then talk to Mol. , let and rob the party by failing a DC 10

Sacred Pool[edit | edit source]
Talk to
:- Alfira the bard. Entertainer background.
- The party must help her finish the song. Recommended route is to play an instrument, as this unlocks instrument proficiency for the character speaking to her.
: Inspire
Talk to
:- Volo a dramatic story fit for a chapbook. Entertainer background.
- The interacting party member must pick the most ludicrous options or be a Bard and use the bard options.
: Tell
Steal the Idol of Silvanus:
- Criminal background. : Steal the Idol of Silvanus.
- steal the Idol of Silvanus. Entertainer background.
- Stealing it after Kagha is exposed or Halsin returns has the least consequences. Using Fog, Darkness or Invisibility avoids getting caught. The idol can be stolen back from Mol after giving it to her.
: Help Mol
Unleash Silvanus' Curse:
- Silvanus' curse upon the grove. Acolyte background.
- The party must kill all the druids, then long rest.
: Unleash
Seal the Grove:
- seals off the grove from the world. Acolyte background.
- Stealing the idol, killing Zevlor, killing only Kagha or leaving for the Monastery or Shadow-cursed Lands triggers the ritual's completion, sealing the grove permanently. If Halsin returns, the ritual is stopped and therefore cannot be completed.

Inner Sanctum[edit | edit source]
Save
from :- Urchin background. : Save Arabella from Kagha and her serpent.
- Folk Hero background.
- Passing any ability check or class dialogue convinces Kagha to release Arabella. The inspiration is earned after speaking to Arabella's parents.

Look at the

- There are four frescos. Passing each check results in learning their meaning.
- First requires Religion check and shows druids and Sylvanus, the Old Oak. DC 10
- Second requires Investigation check and shows how the druids and forest rose against a threat. DC 10
- Third requires Religion check and reveals the druids entered a concord with the Harpers to fight "the shade". DC 10
- Fourth requires History check shows a Sharran helmet broken at their feet. Shadowheart can interpret the frescos without a check. DC 5

Find Kagha's
:- Faldorn's Canticle: The Shadow Druids' Doctrine. Sage background.
- The party must open Kagha's chest hidden behind a bookshelf in the Servant's Quarters and read the book inside.

During
:- Entertainer background. : Turn someone to the party's side with a well-timed tale.
- Noble background. [Needs Verification]
- After retrieving the Letter to Kagha, the party must return and convince Kagha to abandon the Shadow Druids. If having read all four frescos a unique, easier option is available. Only a Druid can earn the title "Faithwarden".

Secluded Cove[edit | edit source]
Find
:- Criminal background.
- This is only possible if the interacting party member is a Rogue.

- Mirkon must survive the fight. Slaying the Piper is mutually exclusive with "The Allure of Coin" Inspiration.

Forest[edit | edit source]
Approach

- They must both be killed or knocked out by the party or Owlbear. If telling them to leave, they can be encountered again in the Goblin Camp and can be killed there at any time.

Reach into the

- The outpost (more of a camp) is up the hill across from the Druids Grove entrance, up a tall ladder. Next to Silver Pendant.
- The spider crevice is inside a larger rock. The party must pass any ability check or use Spider Egg Sac. to acquire the

Meet

- One of many locations he can appear. See triggers and locations.

Owlbear Nest[edit | edit source]
Unlock the
:- Selûne's lost treasure through prayer. Acolyte background.
- The party must pass the Perception check and pick up the prayer note from behind the statue (not the book at its feet), and read it while standing next to the chest.
: Recover
Approach the
:- Owlbear. Outlander background.
- Fighting or convincing her to let the party leave both counts.
: Triumph over the mother
- Vision of the Absolute. Guild Artisan background.
- Part 2/2 - the party must kill the Owlbear mother or long rest after entering the cave, come back and loot the spear head from her corpse. Then the shaft and the head must be combined together.
: Reforge the
Blighted Village[edit | edit source]
Approach any
:- Charlatan background.
- They must be convince them to let the party into the town. illithid persuasion does not work. [Needs Verification]
: Trick the Goblins in Moonhaven.
Talk to
:- Noble background. : Recruit the ogres to protect the party.
- Urchin background. : Convince the ogres to work for the player character without giving them gold.
- Haunted One background.
- Passing a Persuasion check convinces Lump to work for the party, with eating the corpses as payment. Triggers all three. DC 20
: Recruit the ogre mercenaries, using the corpses of the player character's enemies as payment.
Talk to
:- Folk Hero background.
- The party must convince or beat up Fezzerk, then enter the windmill and pull the Brake lever to stop the windmill. The inspiration is earned after talking to Barcus.
: Rescue the gnome from his fate at the windmill.
Apothecary's Cellar[edit | edit source]
Talk to the
:- Charlatan background.
- The mirror must be convinced that the player character is an ally by choosing "Szass Tam is a foul, wretched creature.", then "To clean a wound?", and finally "I'd look for whatever spell will rid me of this worm in my head."
- If having read the Dark Journal it is possible convince it that player character is Ilyn Toth.
: Trick the magic mirror in the Thayan cellar.
Acquire the Necromancy of Thay:
- Sage background.
- Part 1/2 - The tome itself is located here. The Dark Amethyst must slotted into the tome to open it. It is located deeper under the village, via a blacksmith's forge or the well.

Basement Forge[edit | edit source]
Enter the
:- Guild Artisan background.
- Part 1/2 - The party must enter by breaking the web over a large hole in one of the buildings and jumping down, or pick the large basement door near the east gate. The Highcliff's Blueprints must be found inside the smithy and read to start the quest. The bark can be found later in the Underdark.

Whispering Depths[edit | edit source]
Learn the

- Find and read all of the arachnomancer's journals. There are four in total:

- Part 2/2 - The Dark Amethyst is here. A party member must open the tome and read all three pages to trigger it. If failing any checks the party member can be cured with .

- Part 2/3 - The final part of the book cannot be read until acquiring The Tharchiate Codex in Act Three.

Broken Bridge[edit | edit source]
- Sage background.
- A party member must interact with either of the two skeletons located under the broken bridge from the Blighted Village leading to the Risen Road, and pass a DC 10 History check. However, if the party had previously looked at the frescos in the Druid Grove and discovered the connection to the Harpers, then succeeding this check is not necessary to gain the inspiration. Note: Due to a coding bug, the inspiration does not trigger if the interacts with the skeletons.

- Only Paladins or Clerics of non-evil Deities can do this.
: Pray with the Flaming Fists at Waukeen's Rest.
Loot the
:- Guild Artisan background.
- The interacting party member must pass a passive History check, or be of any race hailing from the Underdark (Drow, Half-Drow, Duergar, Deep Gnome) like Kree Derryck or Ver'yll Wenkiir. DC 5
: Identify the drow armour near Waukeen's Rest.
Talk to
:- Soldier background.
- This is earned after knocking down the door.
: Follow Flaming Fist orders at the burning inn. - Counsellor Florrick from the burning inn.
- The party must kick the door down when she asks, follow her upstairs and break the rubble blocking the door to free Florrick. This inspiration is earned after speaking with Counsellor Florrick.
: Rescue
- Waukeen's Rest. Folk Hero background.
- The party must either rescue Florrick or break the rubble to get into the room oppossite Florrick's, free Benryn, and then guide him to the balcony area next to him.
: Save whomever the party can from - Haunted One background.
- The party must only rescue Florrick, then find Benryn and leave him trapped until he dies.
: Leave the pinned Benryn to burn.
Zhentarim Basement[edit | edit source]
Getting stopped by
:- Zhentarim Hideout. Charlatan background.
- The party must use any method to be allowed in. If helping Rugan and not robbing him, he then stands behind Zarys and helps the party out.
: Talk the party's way into the - Criminal background.
- The party must pick up or steal the Caravan Strongbox without opening it and deliver it to Zarys. Earned after delivering.
: Become an ally of the Zhentarim.

- Buy him from Brem or kill the Zhentarim and then talk to Oskar.

Fixing the elevator:
- Zhentarim hideout. Guild Artisan background.
- The elevator is hidden behind an illusory wall and leads to the Underdark.

Talk to Caravan Strongbox:

- After helping Rugan, the party must demand payment from him for saving him.

- The party must pickup or steal the Caravan Strongbox without opening it and deliver it to Zarys. Earned after delivering.
: Become an ally of the Zhentarim. - Iron Flask from the Zhentarim. Criminal background.
- Disarm, unlock and loot the Caravan Strongbox to get the Iron Flask.
- The party can pickpocket, knockout or kill Zarys for the Caravan Strongbox after delivering, or Slick Inatra in Act Three, then lockpick chest.

Tunnel with
:- Outlander background.
- The party must disarm the tripwires in the tunnel without triggering the boulder. If the boulder falls it rolls over the tripwires, preventing the inspiration.

Toll House[edit | edit source]
Talk to
:- Karlach. Soldier background.
- The party must side with Karlach during the confrontation and kill the 'paladins'. Anders specifically is quite dangerous as his sword is strong and he can use smite twice in one turn.

Mountain Pass[edit | edit source]
Talk to
:- Charlatan background.
- The party must pass any active checks and do not tell him about the artifact.
: Convince Kith'rak Voss to leave without violence. - Soldier background.
- The party must attack them or defend themselves and eliminate the patrol.

Sunlit Wetlands[edit | edit source]
The Putrid Bog[edit | edit source]
Enter the
:- Outlander background.
- Automatically triggers a scene when entering the area. The player character must pass any check to reveal the true appearance of the wetlands.
: See past the illusion covering the swamp.
Overgrown Tunnel[edit | edit source]
Find the
:- Charlatan background.
- Casting protection avoids being possessed by putting on the mask. Only one party member wearing a mask needs to walk past the thralls and jump to the other side of the waterfall, without triggering combat.
: Use the hag's mask to peacefully bypass her thralls. - Folk Hero background.
- The party must not kill or unmask Mask of Regret but skip or knock her out. After this Ethel must be killed (taking her deal does not count) and the Mask of Regret must be spoken with directly or after a long rest, if she was knocked out.
: Free one of the Hag's masked thralls.
Acrid Workshop[edit | edit source]
Enter the
:- Guild Artisan background.
- It is advised that a party member drink either A Mother's Loathing or Heart of Stone as they are the only ones which have positive effects.
: Drink one of Ethel's unique potions. - Outlander background.
- The party must use a circle to teleport outside to the swamp or into the Underdark.
: Successfully use a mushroom circle.
Goblin Camp[edit | edit source]
Enter the
:- Charlatan background.
- The guards must be convinced to let the party in. Using illithid persuasion does not work.
: Deceive any of the guards in the goblin camp.
Courtyard[edit | edit source]
Interact with
:- Entertainer background.
- The interacting party member must succeed a Performance check as this is the drum normally used to call reinforcements. The party may get off with a warning. DC 10
: Successfully perform on the goblin war drum.
Watching
on stage:- Volo from the Goblin Camp. Folk Hero background.
- Part 1/2 - Volo must be spoken with. He is then taken inside the Shattered Sanctum where he can be later rescued.
: Rescue
Get yourself some dwarf:
- Haunted One background.
- The Dark Urge only must eat some Roasted Dwarf Belly.
: Eat a chunk of the cooked dwarf.
Talk to
:- Entertainer background. : Win a match of chicken chase.
- Outlander background. : Successfully tame the owlbear cub.
- Urchin background.
- The Owlbear cub must not be dead nor knocked out, otherwise only a chicken is present. The party must agree to play chicken chase. Once the game starts and the sound effect has played (important!), speak to the owlbear or chicken and tell him / it to run to the posts to win. Krolla then tries to cheat, so the player character must then make her pay out their winnings. After, the party must speak with her again and say they are taking the owlbear. Afer this the cub must be spoken with to invite him to camp.

:- toe ring from Crusher without getting caught. Charlatan background. Steal the

- The interacting party member must kneel to kiss his feet, then pass a Sleight of Hand check to steal it.

- The player character must defeat Crusher in a duel and, after he surrenders, choose the Intimidate option to make him kiss their foot.

: Get the goblins on the player character's side while duelling
Talk to
:- Volo's Guide to Goblins. Sage background.
- Piddle is upstair atop a small tower. The party must climb some vines to reach him and convince him to give them the book.
: Read
Poison the
:- Charlatan background. : Poison the beer in the goblin camp.
- Criminal background. : Use poison to kill the drunk goblins in camp.
- Haunted One background. : Poison the stolen ale, slaughtering the goblins.
- Entertainer background.
- The party must use any poison, such as the Wyvern Toxin from Nettie, with the tub without being caught. Casting fog or darkness over the tub or being invisible makes this easier, but if cast on a goblin they all turn hostile. After poisoning the tub the goblins call for a toast. The player character is then accussed of poisoning and must pass a check or entire camp turns hostile.

Shattered Sanctum[edit | edit source]
Talk to
:- Acolyte background. : Endure the ritual of Loviatar until is pleased.
- Loviatar's pleasure in her ritual. Entertainer background.
- He beats the interacting party member and requires them to pass an ability check 3 times. If having taken off their arnour before, the party member gains On Receiving Her Grace also lets the party member choose the weapons with which they are tortured, and can alter the type of damage they receive. . Also applying before makes it easier to withstand the pain. Reading
: Perform for

:- Folk Hero background. : Rescue from the Goblin Camp.
- Noble background.
- Part 2/2. The party must get the key from Gribbo or pick the lock. Volo must then be invited to camp.
: Expand the party's retinue by bringing Volo to camp.
Deal with
:- Folk Hero background. : Save Liam from his goblin torturers.
- Haunted One background.
- It is possible to torture but not kill, and then save Liam. A drow cannot torture Liam but can still save him.
: Have the player character torture Liam.
Talk to
:- Acolyte background.
- The party must break him out. His cage is trapped and locked. If the interacting party member is branded he is dismissive, but can still be helped out of the cage.
: Learn about Maglubiyet and safely free his priest.
Above the
:- Folk Hero background.
- Very tight timing is necessary as he is pushed down immediately after entering the area. If is escorted out the grove before this interaction, Smythin does not spawn.

- The easiest way to get inside is to jump down from above and then speaking with the spiders.
: Convince the pit spiders to attack the goblins.

- The party must allow Ragzlin to perform the spell, then control his mind to ask useless questions. The dialogue option "Who is the Absolute?" must not be chosen.
: Interrogate the dead mind flayer without drawing suspicion.

:- Folk Hero background. : Save the tieflings from the goblin assault.
- Haunted One background. : Spill the blood of the goblins.
- Criminal background. : Ally with Minthara to loot and slaughter the grove.
- Haunted One background. : Spill the blood of the tieflings.
Acquire a Spider's Lyre:
- Entertainer background.
- Part 1/2 - Mithara has one of the two lyres; the party must accept or loot it from her. This is continued in Act Two.
: Play the Spider's Lyre to attract the drider.

- Kill Gut and Ragzlin and Minthara. For recruiting Minthara later in Act Two, she must be knocked out, not killed.
- Mutually exclusive with all grove raid inspirations. If the leaders are defeated the raid does not occur.

Sanctum Basement[edit | edit source]

- The black dots must all be on the sunlit area.
: Solve the moon puzzle sealing the door to the

Destroy 3 types of mushroom:
- Outlander background.
- The party must destroy a Bibberbang, a Timmask and a Torchstalk.
: Destroy each kind of hazardous Underdark mushroom.
Selûnite Outpost[edit | edit source]
Break the
:- Selûne's protection over the Underdark fort. Acolyte background.
- The gate is protected by two statues that fire at anything that gets close. To stop this the Moonstone on the central statue of Selûne inside in outpost must be destroyed.

Minotaur Hills[edit | edit source]
Interact with the sword in stone:
- Eilistraee's ritual of sorrow and obtain her blessed blade. Acolyte background.
- The sword requires blood to be spilled on it. So the party must either pass the relevant checks to learn this or hit someone near the sword to spill blood on it.

Ancient Battlefield[edit | edit source]
and :
- Noble background.
- The player character must be a female Lolth sworn drow or disguised as one. Dhourn must be unpetrified by the Spectator's ray or via Basilisk Oil. The party must speak with him and pass one of checks the Lolth-Sworn options.
: Leverage the player character's role in the drow matriarchy to force Dhourn to abandon his quest. - Adamantine Forge from all three drow wizards. Sage background.
- Part 1/3 - The party must get the Memory Shard from Dhourn and pass all ability checks when using it.
: Discover the secrets of the
Arcane Tower[edit | edit source]
Shut down the
:- sussur flower. Sage background.
- The party must acquire a Sussur Bloom from the tower's garden or the tree in the Dread Hollow. The bloom must be placed or thrown close enough to affect the turret.

- If walking too close to the Bibberbang it becomes agitated and chain activates the entire field towards a nearby lit torch, killing Baelen and destroying the Noblestalk instantly. The party can use or jump along the left side and pick up the torch to prevent an explosion. Then the party must toss Baelen his bag or a Scroll of Misty Step so he can Misty Step away.

- Across the water from where the party members disembark, the Duergar are tossing the corpses of deep gnomes into the water. The party must loot the Fetish of Callarduran Smoothhands. Speaking with the Duergar to dismiss them or passing a Sleight of Hand avoids angering them.
: Loot the dead gnomes in Grymforge before their corpses are thrown into the river.

Dealing with

- Haunted One background.
- The party must first make a deal with Brithvar to turn on Nere for a payout. Then the party must help Nere and the gnomes escape the cave-in. After this the party must side against Nere, kill him and the loyal Duergar, and pay Brithvar his cut. Finally Nere's head must be cut off, which may require the Spaw's quest to retrieve the head to be started before.

- The party must cross the bridge towards the Blighted Village or the stream next to it leading to the Owlbear Nest. When long resting Alfira appears in the camp and wants to join party. Regardless what is said or done, the player character wakes up in the morning, having butchered Alfira. If Quil appears instead of Alfira the inspiration does not trigger.

Tiefling Party[edit | edit source]
- Entertainer background.
- The party must kill all the goblin leaders or side with the tieflings during the raid. The tieflings start packing and spend one night at the camp. Before the celebration, Lakrissa has to be knocked out or killed. Zae then appears at the party in her place and dances with the player character.
