Rowan, a Flaming Fist

Overview[edit | edit source]

Rowan together with Poole Fist Poole, Varone Fist Varone, Madigan Fist Madigan, Lochan Fist Lochan and Broadhorn Fist Broadhorn, under command of Nestor Manip Nestor, guards the goods donated to the benefit of refugees, put into storage inside the Requisitioned Barn. Rowan is one of two guards stationed outside; he looks over the side entrance to the barn.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Fist Rowan is one of five characters in Rivington who might serve as a disguise for Orin Orin the Red in her attempts to threaten and baffle the party. Depending on this, interaction with Rowan might take two quite different courses.

Rowan the real Flaming Fist[edit | edit source]

In this case, if any party member is spotted by Rowan while trying to sneak into the barn without permission or spotted inside, the Fist will order them to go and speak with the manip (which teleports the party to the entrance). Being caught the second time leads them to be arrested.

Any party member who is caught by Rowan trying to sneak into the barn (for the first time only) has a unique dialogue line with him. Unlike talking to Madigan, this option is available for all classes (not only Rogue Rogue characters).

  • Party member: Barn.

Using it brings the following approval points from various companions:

Astarion approves +1 Gale approves +1 Karlach approves +1 Minsc approves +1 Shadowheart approves +1 Wyll approves +1

Rowan the Orin's guise[edit | edit source]

In this case, "Rowan" engages the party in discussing the refugees and tension between them and the citizens of Baldur's Gate. Throughout the dialogue, Orin tries to find out whether the player character shares her opinion on the subject of murder, and possibly to sway them to her point of view.

Choosing certain lines in dialogue with Orin guised as Rowan grants the following points of approval/disapproval from various companions:

Replaced by Orin, Rowan features quite different mimics and gestures
  • Orin/Rowan: We need to march round the front, and kill every last one of them. Let's see them eat our food with their guts on the floor. What do you say?
    • Player character: They're innocent people. You can't just kill them! Astarion disapproves -1 Gale approves +1 Halsin approves +1 Jaheira approves +1 Minsc approves +1 Karlach approves +1 Shadowheart approves +1 Wyll approves +1
    • Player character: You're a monster. I'm reporting you to your commanding officer. Astarion disapproves -1 Gale approves +1 Halsin approves +1 Jaheira approves +1 Minsc approves +1 Karlach approves +1 Shadowheart approves +1 Wyll approves +1
    • Player character: Both sides need teaching a lesson: let's kill them all. Astarion disapproves -1 Gale disapproves -1 Halsin disapproves -1 Jaheira disapproves -1 Karlach disapproves -1 Lae'zel approves +1 Minsc disapproves -1 Minthara approves +1 Shadowheart disapproves -1 Wyll disapproves -1
    • The Dark Urge The Dark Urge player character: I will do better than mindless slaughter: it is not the answer. Astarion disapproves -1 Gale approves +1 Halsin approves +1 Jaheira approves +1 Minsc approves +1 Karlach approves +1 Shadowheart approves +1 Wyll approves +1
    • The Dark Urge The Dark Urge player character: Let's soak the earth with entrails, kill and kill again! Astarion disapproves -1 Gale disapproves -1 Halsin disapproves -1 Jaheira disapproves -1 Karlach disapproves -1 Lae'zel approves +1 Minsc disapproves -1 Minthara approves +1 Shadowheart disapproves -1 Wyll disapproves -1

The player character dialogue options here belong to the Custom Origin (Tav). Other origins have their own set of possible answers and unique formulations for those lines which support or contradict Orin's opinion.

Regardless of the player character's answer, Orin threatens the party and teleports away. This updates Get Orin's Netherstone Get Orin's Netherstone, but is not required to progress the quest.

If Fist Rowan was one of Orin's disguises, the original Rowan can be found sacrificed in one of Bhaal Temple's body display alcoves.
