Act Three

Hilario Varota and  Megthanet are at the western entrance of Elfsong Tavern in the Lower City. They are discussing the most gruesome details of  Duke Stelmane's murder.

Idle banter

  I heard it happened right here in the Elfsong. Sliced clean through Stelmane's neck.

• Megthanet

  I heard her guts were placed on the ground in the shape of the Absolute's mark!

• Hilario Varota

  I always said the Elfsong was haunted. Now it's doubly so.

• Hilario Varota

  They never found the head. Makes me wonder how they knew it was Stelmane.

• Megthanet

  You can tell all sorts with technology these days. I'm sure she left some hair. Or teeth.

  What would you do with a decapitated head anyway? Not like you could sell it.

  I can think of a thing or two. Nothing good, though.

  I'm never eating at the Elfsong again. What if there were bits.

If Enver Gortash is killed:

  First Stelmane, and now Gortash! If the higher-ups aren't safe, what hope do we have?

  I heard Gortash was strangled with a piece of his own intestine!

  As if Stelmane's death wasn't horrid enough.

  I wonder who will take charge now that Gortash is gone.

  Whoever it is, good luck to them. Those Absolutists won't stop just because there's a power vacuum.

  Probably responsible for his death, if you ask me.

  I always said he was doing too good a job. Better than Stelmane, in any case.
