The Forge of the Nine is a Location within the Lower City in Act Three of Baldur's Gate 3.
I'm shocked by my good fortune, quite honestly. Rent is fair, and the setup is just what I need to start making a living again.
Without you, I'd be dead in a ditch twice over. Instead, I have my own smithy in the city.
Dammon, when the party meet him in Lower City

Overview[edit section | visual editor]

The Forge of the Nine is a medium-sized building located in the Heapside district of Baldur's Gate, ensconced between the Devil's Fee curio shop, the graveyard, and two private houses: Armbrust's Home and Highberry's Home.

The building consists of a ground floor, a first floor and a basement. It also has a large terrace with an open-air smithy on it. Due to the overall descending of the street level, the ground floor has also a stone stairs, leading to a small square with a fountain. A path from it leads, in turn, to the larger square in front of the Sorcerous Sundries.

The tiefling weaponsmith DammonDammon toils at the smithy, if he survived the events of Act One and Act Two. Otherwise, no vendor is present.[1]

Access[edit section | visual editor]

The entrance to the smithy from the street is at X:  Y: . Moving farther along the terrace, the party reaches the door to the Forge itself at X: -11 Y: -6. It is locked and red-outlined; opening it requires the The Forge Key carried by Dammon, or a DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check to lockpick.

The side door at X: -15 Y: 1 leads to the building basement. It is locked as well, but can be opened without consequence; the key to open it lies in the mailbox at the Forge door (on the terrace). Otherwise, it can be lockpicked with a DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check DC 15 Sleight of Hand Check.

Building Layout[edit section | visual editor]

Ground floor[edit section | visual editor]

If Dammon is present, he explains he is currently renting the place from a "Mistress" for a fair price, and is quite content with his lucky break. The plaque next to the door reads Diabolic Forge. This, along with the building's close location to the Devil's Fee curio shop (with their basements adjacent and separated only with a cracked wall), as well as some interior details in both Forge building and the basement may imply that Dammon's "Mistress" is none other than HelsikHelsik, the proprietor of the Devil's Fee.

If KarlachKarlach is in the party, Dammon tells her he has not figured out how to adapt her mechanical heart to existing on the material plane. Also, if the party did not ask him to craft items from the Infernal Iron or Devilfoil Masks prior, they can do it here.[verify][2]

Inside the building is another forge with bellows and an assortment of smithing supplies. Multiple Bronze and Silver Ingots are scattered about. A locked heavy chest is in the back area; it requires a DC 20 Sleight Of Hand Check DC 20 Sleight Of Hand Check to unlock and stores three more Silver Ingots.

First floor[edit section | visual editor]

A stairway leads up to the first floor, a small area used by Dammon as living quarters: on the cupboard here lies Dammon's Journal. On the shelf across the bed is a Longsword +1.

Basement[edit section | visual editor]

The basement can be accessed through a locked door on the western side of the building or by breaking down a wall in the basement of the Devil's Fee.

The Basement Key can be obtained from the mailbox near the door on the main floor. The path between the Forge of the Nine and the Devil's Fee ends with an entrance to the city graveyard.

Several enhanced weapons are in the area down the stairs: a Warhammer +1, Longsword +2 and a Mace +2. On the anvil here lies another Bronze Ingot.

The adjacent area contains a Wooden Chest filled with alchemical ingredients, random potion and random alchemical recipe book in one corner. In the opposite is a Gilded Chest with Unwanted Masterwork Gauntlets and Unwanted Masterwork Greaves.

The Cracked Wall at X: 391 Y: 370 can be smashed and leads into the basement of the Devil's Fee.

Outside the forge[edit section | visual editor]

Several minor NPC vignettes are around the forge.

Notes[edit section | visual editor]

  1. The forge was reworked during development. Several ideas concerning this location and Dammon in particular were cut or never implemented in the final version. See Cut and unimplemented content#Dammon.
  2. Though there are no more than four Devilfoil Masks available to find in a single playthrough, Dammon's dialogue file LOW_Dammon envisions the possibility of giving him six or even nine masks.
