Ground floor[edit | edit source]

Inside the only room lies the corpse of Franc Peartree without a hand. A note can be looted from his corpse which claims he was killed for helping the lordling. As the party may already know, this disdainful sobriquet is used by Orin the RedOrin the Red when speaking of Enver GortashEnver Gortash. Peartree can be spoken via Speak with DeadSpeak with Dead.

In the far corner, under the bench lies a copy of Bloodstained Parchment. Near the bench is a hatch leading to actually important part of Peartree House. It is covered by Traveller's Chest with minor loot inside, which has to be moved aside to gain access. The hatch is locked and requires DC 15 Sleight of Hand check DC 15 Sleight of Hand check to lockpick. Otherwise, it can be opened with the key hidden in one of the bookcases in the opposite corner.

A DC 20 Perception check DC 20 Perception check is required to find some loose planks in the floor, where Peartree's Chest Key is hidden.

Basement[edit | edit source]

The hatch leads to the Peartree's basement. It consists of the study to the south and small workshop to the east.

In the study (turned into a sacrifice chamber) lie the dead bodies of Courageous Little KimmabethCourageous Little Kimmabeth and Cassie Wheynstown. Kimmabeth can be looted for of one of Orin's Ritual Notes, Yaga-Shura, the Second,[1] and the Clown's Severed Arm, which is a part of Find Dribbles the ClownFind Dribbles the Clown quest. Also, a Longsword +1 can be pulled out of his body.

The workshop has several stands with many weapons and some pieces of armour and shields lying around (all common, except another Longsword +1). In the far corner stands wooden chest with some gold inside. On the desk lies the ledger which sheds some light on Gortash's covert trade operations.[2]

In the southern wall of this room is a built-in Strongbox, opened with Peartree's Chest Key or with a DC 15 Sleight of Hand check DC 15 Sleight of Hand check. It contains a Half Plate Armour +2, a Shortsword +2, and two Soul Coins.

Across the entrance to the Peartree House Saer Drana HoyteSaer Drana Hoyte and Filson VagoFilson Vago are speaking. They were trying to find Figaro's Facemaker's Boutique, but messed up with the explanations given by some citizen and got lost. Footnotes and references[edit | edit source]

  1. Yaga-Shura is a character of the Baldur's Gate II game, a Bhaalspawn belonging to a Fire Giants race. However, as this race was not implemented in Baldur's Gate III, Orin had to use for his effigy heavyset, robust humans with light-ginger hair and beards.
  2. Two letters from Gortash found in the basement indicate that Peartree was blackmailed by the Archduke nominee into distributing weapons and armour for his armsdealing network, probably being chosen for his numerous connections among the Flaming Fists (as he served as a cook in the Basilisk Gate Barracks before retirement). Other books around the room suggest that the house owner studied deeply the matters of infernal planes and bargaining with their inhabitants.
  3. Two coins are in the basement strongbox and one more is in the mailbox at the entrance.
