Highberry's Home is a Location within the Lower City in Act Three of Baldur's Gate 3.
We're lucky to be blessed with a rather spacious one - seems cruel to let it go unused if there are children in need.
Cora Highberry, describing her house

Overview[edit | edit source]

Highberry's Home is a large building located directly north of Sorcerous Sundries. It has two spacious stories and a basement.

The main entrance to Highberry's Home is at X: 14 Y: -43. The house has several more entrances from balconies at its backside and on the first floor at X: 0 Y: -30, X: 1 Y: -37, and X: 14 Y: -37 respectively, available via means of spatial movement such as Grant FlightGrant Flight or Misty StepMisty Step. All entrances except the main one are red-outlined.

Highberry's Home belongs to an elderly halfling couple, CoraCora and Roger HighberryRoger Highberry, who recently adopted two orphaned children, TimmyTimmy and MollyMolly.[1] As the party arrive in Baldur's Gate, the Highberrys are preparing to hold a wine festival to raise funds for their young wards.

As Cora Highberry has been marked as a quarry for a serial killer, the actual state of the building depends on the state and (if started) progress of the party's involvement in the Investigate the MurdersInvestigate the Murders and Impress the Murder TribunalImpress the Murder Tribunal quests.

The house layout[edit | edit source]

Ground floor and first floor[edit | edit source]

The ground floor consists of a spacious living room with an adjacent smaller kitchen. The wooden chest in the corner can be looted for gold and random rare alchemical ingredients. On the kitchen mantelpiece lies the Wine Cellar Key, which opens the red-outlined hatch near the kitchen entrance, leading to the house basement.

On the first floor is a small study with a desk; several letters concerning one of the Highberrys' wards, Molly, lie atop it. A red-outlined door leads to the bedroom, where another wooden chest with minor loot can be found. Both first-floor balconies lead into this room.

Basement[edit | edit source]

The basement can be accessed through a locked hatch. Inside, a DC 15 Perception check DC 15 Perception check attracts the party's attention to a painting on the wall. If the party approach, another DC 20 Perception check DC 20 Perception check highlights a Loose Plank, which conceals Highberry's Strongbox Key. The strongbox itself is hidden behind the painting and contains an Elixir of Universal Resistance and a Potion of Flying.

The half-round bottle rack in the far end of the basement contains several health potions of random quality. Other containers around the cellar may keep fresh Camp Supplies.

Behind the door at the far end of the basement is a small study divided in two by a curtain. A stack of scrolls here contains a random scroll up to Rare grade. Behind the curtain is a trapped heavy chest (DC 15 Perception check DC 15 Perception check to detect trap, DC 10 Sleight of Hand check DC 10 Sleight of Hand check to disarm it, and DC 15 Sleight of Hand check DC 15 Sleight of Hand check to lockpick) holds a pile of gold and a Gold Ingot, with another wooden chest aside it (not trapped, but requiring DC 20 Perception check DC 20 Perception check to lockpick) storing more gold.

Roof[edit | edit source]

The roof can be the place where TaraTara the tressym can be met for the third time in a playthrough, provided that two previous encounters (on the Open Hand Temple roof and atop the Devil's Fee) already happened. If encountered here, she can sell Slinging Shoes.

A loose plank on the roof at X: 0 Y: -40 is noticed with a DC 15 Perception check DC 15 Perception check. It hides several random useful items, possibly including Trap Disarm Toolkit, Thieves' Tools, potions of Flying or Speed, and some gold.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

The wine festival[edit | edit source]

Highberrys' wine festival in its height.

If the party started the Investigate the MurdersInvestigate the Murders and Impress the Murder TribunalImpress the Murder Tribunal quests, the Wine Festival is taking place on the front porch of the Highberrys' mansion. Several traders and connoisseurs offer their wines to the public. However, one of them, Master Meztli, is actually the disguised serial killer DolorDolor, who is planning to murder Cora HighberryCora Highberry (along with several other quarries) to become an Unholy Assassin of BhaalBhaal. Among the festival patrons are four doppelgangersdoppelgangers, who can be recognized by their signature four-letters names.

If the party have any of the quests active and trigger the wine festival plot branch by approaching the event close enough, they can initiate dialogue with Cora and "Metzli" and try and prevent the murder. They may also allow Dolor to commit his crime. The former option leads to a fight with Dolor and his shapeshifted assistants. Dolor, however, accuses the party of "sullying the sacrifice with knowledge" and attempts to teleport away on his first turn. If he succeeds, the shapeshifters prefer to attack the party and not Dolor's marked victim, and Cora Highberry most likely survives.

Warning Cora Highberry of the poisoned wine grants the Wine ConnoisseurWine Connoisseur to characters with the NobleNoble background.

If the Wine Festival ends and Cora and Roger Higberry are not killed by Dolor, both might be found inside the house with two orphans for whom they provide care. If the party then speak with Cora Highberry, she thanks the party for saving her life and rewards them with gold. Roger HighberryRoger Highberry can be pickpocketed for the Counting House Vault nº4 Key.

If the plot branch was triggered, but the party never started a dialogue with Cora, after a long rest both she and her husband Roger can be found dead in their bedroom on the first floor. Both (now twice-orphaned) children wander around the ground floor.

If neither quest is active, Dolor is not present, and the festival has not started yet. The Highberrys can then be found inside their house and spoken with about the upcoming festival.

Footnotes and references[edit | edit source]

  1. Molly is the daughter of the deceased Flaming Fist JacekJacek, whose corpse can be found in the burnt ruins of the Waukeen's Rest inn in Act One. The generous move of adoption is probably caused not only by sheer benevolence, but also because the couple seemingly have no children of their own. One of the tombstones in the city graveyard has the inscription "Gwynn Highberry - Stillborn but Not Forgotten".
  2. Sold by TaraTara on the roof in exchange for Fish and / or magical items.
