Act Three[edit | edit source]

Nina stands by her brother's grave trying to resurrect him. When approached, she will mention to the party that her big brother Garret was killed by a murderer.[note 1] She will attempt to cast a spell but it fizzles out. The party can then either help her or persuade her to let him rest in peace:

  • Here - this scroll might do the trick. (if the party member has a scroll of Animate Dead Animate Dead)
  • [ARCANA] You need to focus your power - make it a sharpened point, like the tip of an arrow. (DC 18)
  • [ARCANA] The spell you're looking for is 'Raise Undead'. This is how you do it... (DC 10)
  • [SCHOOL OF NECROMANCY] [STRENGTH] You wish to raise the dead? Allow me to teach you, curious child... (DC 10)
  • [WIZARD] [STRENGTH] Raising a fallen creature? Paltry magic. ALlow me to explain...
  • [ARCHFEY] [ARCANA] Instruct the child in faerie rites of raising the dead. (DC 10)
  • [GREAT OLD ONE] [ARCANA] Teach the child deep, forbidden magic to regurgitate a soul from the void. (DC 10)
  • [FIEND] [ARCANA] Tell the child all you know of how fiends snatch souls from the afterlife. (DC 10)
  • [SORCERER] [ARCANA] Magic is about instinct. Trust you gut, trust your magic and the rest will flow. (DC 10)
  • [PERSUASION] Your brother deserves to rest in peace - let him. (DC 15)
  • [MONK] [PERSUASION] Your brother's soul is at rest - it is not fair to disturb it. Make peace with your dead, child. (DC 15)

Successfully helping her to raise her brother summons two Greater Zombies, three Zombies, two Skeletons and a unique Death Shepherd named Garret Dortmell Garret Dortmell. Or instead of helping her, it is possible to persuade her to let her brother rest in peace, after which the party can tell Mortarch Gracie Scyre Gracie Scyre about the young girl's acts of necromancy. This will trigger a cut scene where the Mortarch will offer to help honour Nina's brother and bring her peace.

Both dissuading and encouraging her to raise her brother from the dead awards What Remains of the Dead (Acolyte background) and Good Intentions (Urchin background) and experience from the encounter.
