“Ah - a cosy little spot, isn't it? These four walls have witnessed greater alchemical triumphs than the keep of Urngath Dorrund!„
Overview edit
Crimson Draughts is an apothecary, located just down the Lower City Central Wall, back-to-back to Lavernica's Home, with the entrances at X: -81 Y: -95 and X: -79 Y: -84, both leading into its first floor.
The first floor of the building resembles a long-neglected storage, while the small room on the ground floor has a workbench with some alchemical ingredients and a locked hatch, leading to the basement, which houses Araj Oblodra's laboratory.
A side path along the west side of the building leads to a breach in the Bloomridge Park fence.
The store is owned and run by Araj Oblodra, a Lolth-Sworn Drow merchant and alchemist. She can be first met in Moonrise Towers in Act Two. The state of her enterprise in Act Three depends directly on how the party interacted with her there.
- A party member shared a portion of their blood on Araj's request.
- The party did not speak with her in Moonrise or none agreed to share their blood.
edit

If a party member agreed to give Araj Oblodra a portion of their blood, she leaves Moonrise Towers before they later assault the stronghold. In this case she can be found in Act Three running the Crimson Draughts and experimenting with the blood of the True Soul she obtained.
At the very moment when the party first reaches the Crimson Draughts' environs these experiments result in a massive explosion which ruins the whole interior of the first floor. Araj runs out on the small balcony to be noticed by the party.
If the party speak with Araj, she offers the interacting party member a new formula to drink, which grants the permanent passive feature Unstable Blood. Afterwards, she is keen on obtaining a sample of the character's blood a second time; if they refuse, she becomes hostile. If they agree, Araj becomes a trader with mostly the same stock as in Act Two (save for several more potent potions and Sanguine Explosives). The party member who drank the formula can then donate blood once per long rest, and Araj stocks two Sanguine Explosives in her store.
If Astarion is present and in the active party, the dialogue with Araj has additional options and chime-ins from him. These lines depend on the development of his personal quest (including the possible outcomes if it is complete) and on the course of his relationship with the player character up to this moment.
Refusal edit
If the player character refused to give a sample of their blood to Araj during Act Two, she is absent. Her fate (unless she was provoked to hostility in Moonrise and killed) remains unknown. The Crimson Draughts building is abandoned, its entances nailed off with boards, and the signposts of the Flaming Fist claim that "Due to the presence of prohibited substances and apparatus, this house has been reclaimed, by order of Archduke Enver Gortash."
The barricaded entrances are red-outlined, and breaking and entering into the house without any means of concealment (like Fog Cloud) is considered a crime by the NPCs around, and they may call out for the guards.
Inside, the interior looks neglected and destroyed (without any explosions), but the small workbench downstairs is intact and its contents the same (a few alchemical ingredients), which in this case may be looted freely.
Sanguine Laboratory edit

At X: -92 Y: -78, on one of the few shelves which remain intact on the first floor lies a key to the basement lab. It is red-outlined regardless of whether Araj Oblodra is present or not. If she is present, she wanders between the first floor workbench and the balcony outside, which may give a party member just enough time to steal the key and break into the lab.
The layout of the basement does not change regardless of Araj Oblodra's presence in the city.
The basement consists of three rooms. The locked northern room (requires DC 7 Sleight of Hand check to lockpick) is a small makeshift cell, containing a dead giant spider and three skeletons. To the east is the laboratory proper, holding the unlucky remnants of Araj's research for a way to restore House Oblodra: piles of gore, butchered remains, and the festering corpse of a Spectator.
A tripwire crosses the doorstep to the laboratory; it sets off two gas pits with Purple Worm Poison inside if triggered. The laboratory is well-stocked with alchemical ingredients, both raw and already extracted, and several more can be found in the previous room. Unlike most locations in the game, here the Bottle Racks and the Blood Banks may contain random potions.
A Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen stands on the stone desk directly in front of the entrance. A locked chest which requires DC 10 Sleight of Hand check to lockpick contains random minor loot.
Outside the building edit
There are several NPC vignettes placed around the Crimson Draughts.
- Down the stairs from the balcony Cecee Gaborr is standing near an empty trading stall. If spoken with, she claims she has nothing to sell anymore. However, she can be pickpocketed for some amount of Camp Supplies.
- Strange Beggar Sacrum wanders back and forth near Cecee's stall. He is one of the characters who must be found to progress the Find Mystic Carrion's Servant quest. If the quest has not been started yet, the party can give some alms to Sacrum.
- A bit behind the building Garri Orne and Drybeldiyx are discussing the drinking fountains in the city which have dried up, and rant about politicians more concerned with their own fame than the needs of the citizenry.

Footnotes and References edit
- ↑ There are no other such ingredients found in the game, so it cannot be extracted and used as usual. It may be a remnant of previous game versions, replaced later with the Heart-Shaped Rock, which has the same icon.
- ↑ Trade option is available only after agreeing to participate in Araj's experiments, and only if the player character did not buy these items from her in Act Two. If Araj becomes hostile and is killed, some of these items can be looted from her body afterwards.
