Investigation

  • Hmm. What do we have here?
  • I wonder how long this went overlooked?
  • Something's here. Almost missed it.
  • What's this?
  • Hidden away - but not hidden well enough.
Spotted a trap (Investigation)
  • Looks like a trap. Best tread carefully.
  • A trap. Better give it a wide berth.
  • A trap. Better watch my step.

  • A trap.
  • Best avoid that trap.

Camp followers

Throwing Scratch's ball after he is dismissed

  • Still too soon. Scratch is dreaming of balls and buried bones, no doubt.
  • Lazy mutt… no, I shouldn't say that. He's a good boy.
  • Poor thing. He must still be tired.
  • It's too soon - Scratch needs his rest.

Throwing Scratch's ball after his death

  • I need to stop doing this to myself...
  • I didn't do this enough, when I had the chance.
  • I hope Scratch has a new ball to play with, wherever he is...
  • It's silly... part of me felt like Scratch might still show up for his ball.

Throwing Boo

  • Show no mercy, Boo!

Player character sits on the stool by her tent

Responses will vary based on Shadowheart's approval and relationship status with the player character.

Very Low / Low / Neutral

  • I don't recall inviting you over.
  • There's plenty of space at camp - no need to crowd me.
  • Did you want something…?

Medium / High / Very High / Exceptional

  • I'm glad you decided to join me.
  • You should come over more often.
  • You grace my stool? I'm honoured.
  • Take the weight off. You've earned it.
Flirting
  • I was hoping you'd come by.
  • Always a pleasure.
  • It's been too long.
  • People will start talking, with all the time we spend together…

Partnered

  • Aren't you a sight for sore eyes?
  • Tired, love?
  • I do enjoy our little sits together.
  • Yes, you sit right there and let me drink in the sight of you.

At the Epilogue party

Selûnite

Greeting

  • There you are! Keeping us all on tenterhooks so you could make a dramatic entrance, is it?

At the table

  • Withers has a keen eye for a fine vintage. Why were we scrounging in barrels and crates for supplies when he could source these?
  • Gods, I remember one evening we had to eat fourteen apples, some fish heads, and a stale loaf of bread just to get by…

Idle

  • All these familiar faces... it's good to see them again.
  • I'm glad the roads were kind - would hate to have missed this. At least I have my parents to take care of the animals - I'd never had made it in time with them in tow... (If she saved her parents)
  • Lucky thing I didn't decide to go to Amn yet - no way I'd have made it back in time then.(If she killed parents)
  • In another life, Shar would probably be trying to hurt me, for daring to enjoy myself. But no more. (If she killed parents)

Feeling her magical wound (saved parents)

  • Agh... you don't like me enjoying myself, do you, Shar? What a surprise.
  • Ngh... looking for attention, Shar? Pathetic.
  • Agh... I'm going to enjoy myself, and you can't stop me. Back to the shadows with you.

Feeling the player's ghost

  • Something's amiss. I feel a presence...
  • What was that...?

Sharran

Greeting

  • You made it. Lady Shar smiles on us.

At the table

  • Withers has quite a nose for fine vintages. Well - in a manner of speaking. His actual nose must be a distant memory by now...

Idle

  • Lady Shar has blessed us with a fine night. Just a little wickedness shy of being a Nightfall ritual...
  • I am glad I could escape my duties for tonight. The Dark Lady's crusade is all-consuming...
  • I must savour this, while I can. Eventually, it will all be taken away from me.

Feeling her magical wound (saved parents)

  • Agh... away, Shar. Back to the shadows with you.
  • Ngh... I will not allow you to ruin tonight for me, Shar.
  • Agh... have you nothing better to do, Shar? What a sad creature you are.

Feeling the player's ghost

  • I feel a presence. Not Lady Shar... something else.

    • (Responding remark, as a party member): “That could have been me, if you hadn't gotten me out of my pod...”
  • (Sat in one of the chairs surrounding the pod in Transformation room): “Are those... voices?”
    • (Responding remark 1): “I don't hear anything. Are you losing your mind already?”
    • (Responding remark 2): “The chair - it must connecting you to the mind flayers.”
    • (Responding remark 3): “Let's go, before they realise we're loose.”
  • (Found the Eldritch Rune): “I haven't seen anywhere for something like this to fit...”
  • (Found the Gold Key): “A key... Haven't seen anywhere this might fit.”
    • (Found the key, already tried to open the chest): “This must be for that chest.”

Act One

Ico knownSpells lvl 01.png Act 1 Spoilers! This section reveals details about the story of Baldur's Gate 3.

Ravaged Beach and Roadside Cliffs

  • (Near the docks): "There's bound to be a settlement somewhere along this river..."
  • (Saw dead fishers near dead Intellect Devourers): “Put up a fight by the looks of it. Not that it mattered in the end...”
  • (Encountering Intellect Devourers in the Nautiloid Wreck): "Vicious filth. Best keep some distance, or this'll be a short fight..."
  • (Approaching the dying mind flayer in the Nautiloid Wreck): "That thing's bound to be dangerous, even if injured. Best be careful."
  • (Approaching unstable rune - the point of Gale’s recruitment): “Something's amiss with that rune. Seems unstable.”
  • (Saw Losiir's dead body): “Our gith helper didn't make it. So how were we spared...?”
  • (Saw dead goblins near the crash site): “Dead goblins over there. Worth checking for supplies maybe.”
  • (Saw Lae'zel caged by tieflings): "A githyanki. She ought to be killed, here and now."

Overgrown Ruins and the Dank Crypt

  • (When found bashing on the Dank Crypt door): "They can't hold forever. Come on!"
    • "Blessed Mother, smite the obstacles in my path."
    • "Bloody doors!"
    • "Why?! Why won't you just open?!"
  • (Lockpicked the entrance to the crypt): “There! Not so impregnable after all.”
    • (Another player lockpicked it): “What, you got it open, just like that...?”
  • (Respond to the player’s successfully convincing the looters to flee): “You're more cunning than you look. I thought we had a fight on our hands.”
  • (Entering the crypt from the Refectory): "Abandoned. Whatever god this place was built for can't be in great demand."
    • (Responding remark): “Who were those prayers for? Normally the patron god is obvious - not here.”
  • (Looked at Jergal's statue in the crypt, Religion check):
    • (Successful): "Jergal? I didn't think anyone worshipped the Scribe of the Dead."
    • (Failed): "Who's this supposed to be? Statue looks ancient."
  • (Saw the skeletons): "They look like scribes, despite the weapons. No wonder they're dead."
    • (Respond to the player’s phrase when the skeletons awoke): “Let them come. The darkness can be to our advantage.”
  • (After skeletons have been defeated): "Fools. Rising from the dead just to protect some dusty old baubles." ‘’ Serves also as a (Responding remark)’’
  • (Sneaked past enlivened skeletons): “They looked formidable enough. Lucky they didn't catch us with their loot.”
    • (Responding remark): “Their trinkets may be worth a few coins, all the same.”
  • (Ran away, escaped from the crypt): “They fought hard, for bone piles. We were lucky to escape with their loot.”
  • (Found the Book of Dead Gods): "What could a book contain that requires it to be bound with chains...?"
  • (Found a Soul Coin): "Is this... iron? What kind of currency is this?"
  • (Entering the locked part of the crypt): "Looks like nobody's ventured this far down in years..."
  • (Trying to press a button that deactivates an avoided-so-far trap): “And... nothing. How thrilling.”

Emerald Grove and The Hollow

Approaching the Grove:

  • (After defeating first pack of goblins): “Well, that was bracing.”
    • (Responding remark 1): "They were tenacious. I wonder what they wanted here - other than bloodshed."
    • (Responding remark 2): “There must be more, wherever they came from.”

Resolving the initial confrontation between Aradin and Zevlor:

  • (Aradin was knocked out by Zevlor): “If only they had the same vigour fighting goblins as they did each other...”
  • (Zevlor was knocked out by Aradin): “If only he'd fought the goblins with the same vigour he had for that tiefling...”
    • (Responding remark to any of leaders' punch): “Let's check for a healer, then move on. Whatever else is happening here isn't our concern.”
  • (Aradin was knocked out by avatar): “Nice punch, though be careful you don't spoil our welcome before we get what we need.”
  • (Zevlor was knocked out by avatar): “ I hope that wasn't a healer you just knocked out.”
    • (Responding remark to any of avatar’s punches): “Now that introductions are out of the way, perhaps we can look for a healer.”
  • (Respond to avatar's remark on the non-lethal ending of Aradin/Zevlor conflict): “Never mind their history. Let's look for help.”
  • (Reaction to Zevlor’s words about more goblins): “You heard them. More goblins could be on their way.”
    • (Responding remark): “Goblins aren't our concern, so long as they stay out of our way. We're here to find a healer.”

Resolving Sazza's fate:

  • (After Sazza told the party about Priestess Gut): “Goblins aren't exactly renowned healers, but we can't afford to ignore any options.”
    • (Responding remark): “Perhaps this Gut creature stole something that could be useful. A scroll, a potion, a cranial extractor.”
  • (Helped Sazza escape from the grove): “Freeing a goblin? Surely that's the tadpole, reworking my mind...”
    • (Responding remark): “I'm not in the habit of helping vermin. I expect it to return and bite.”
  • (Let Arka shoot Sazza): “Hardly a winning display of archery, but it did the job.”
    • (Responding remark): “Nobody will shed any tears for a dead goblin. The opposite, more likely. Let's move on.”

In the Sacred Pool and Druids' Caves:

  • (Trying to recognize the ritual chanted by druids): “This is a druid ritual... but not as I know it. Something's off.”
    • (Responding remark): “Why, that's not at all foreboding.”
  • (If Arabella was killed by Teela during the trial): “They killed a child, for that...? Let's get in and out of this place before any vipers decide to bare their fangs at us.”
    • (Responding remark): “We... can't help everyone. Even if we want to.”
  • (Saw the mural in the druid’s caves): “That mural... they look like Dark Justiciars.”
    • (Saw the mural in the druid’s caves, suspects of Dark Justiciar activity in the region): “That mural shows Dark Justiciars. All these signs can't be a coincidence.”
  • (In Halsin’s chamber, saw dead drow): “A dead drow. These druids aren't to be tangled with lightly.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “There's a tadpole too, pickling in a jar.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “ Quite the statue. A formidable piece of stonework.”
    • (Responding remark 3): “Seems like the domain of a well-versed scholar - and not a squeamish one at that.”
  • (Read Halsin’s research on tadpoles): “This 'Halsin' person seems to know a lot about tadpoles.”
    • (Responding remark): “Got to find him then. See if he can help.”
  • (Read Halsin’s research on tadpoles, knows druid’s missing): “Halsin sounds like the best chance of finding a cure.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “Time to track him down and see what he knows.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “Assuming he's even still alive.”
    • (Responding remark 3): “He won't get off that easily. We can force his corpse to talk if it comes to that.”
  • (Opened the druids’ library with the magical circlet): “That did the trick.”
  • (Saw a magic-imbued glaive in druids’ library, knows the story): “This is the weapon mentioned in the notebook. Supposed to be cursed...”
    • (Haven’t read about the weapon’s story): “There's something off about this glaive. Touched with magic, or... something.”

Dealing with Nettie:

  • (Nettie locked the party up after they refused to take Wyvern Poison): “Could have been worse, I suppose. At least she didn't just attack.”
    • (Responding remark): “Blind honesty is always a bad idea. We should keep quiet in future.”
  • (Feeling sick after Nettie scratched them with a poisonous thorn): “Whatever Nettie did to me... it's getting worse.”
    • (Sickness getting worse after LR without cure):Agh... I need to reverse whatever Nettie did to me, before it's too late.”
    • (Almost dying after second LR without cure):Agh... killed by a bloody dwarf healer. Pathetic.”
    • (Cured from Nettie’s poison): “Poison's faded. Just my luck to find a healer, only to have her try to kill me.”
  • (Agreed to take Wyvern poison from Nettie): “Wyvern poison. Never tried it, and I hope to keep it that way.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “Better than becoming a mind flayer, I suppose. Keep it - in case things start to go very wrong.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “Better than becoming a mind flayer. Keep it - in case things start to go very wrong.”
    • (Responding remark 3): “Better to have more options than fewer. If you start sprouting tentacles, I'll pour it down your throat myself.”

In the Secluded Cove:

  • (Charmed by a Harpy's song, 1): "Such splendour... how did I live without it?"
    • (Charmed by a Harpy's song, 2): “So beautiful. Like Shar's embrace...”
    • (Charmed by a Harpy's song, 3): “Sing your dark hymn to me, Shar. Never stop.”
    • (Charmed by a Harpy's song, 4): “Such sweet music... I must listen...”
  • (Broke the Harpy's charm): "Foul winged charlatan! Your tricks will cost you!"

Elsewhere in The Hollow:

  • (Saw the Strange Ox): "That ox seems a little too interested in me..."
  • (Watching at the map in Zevlor’s cave): “Elturgard? A lot of territory to cover before Baldur's Gate - and any cure found there.”
    • (Responding remark): “These little markings look like goblins and gnolls - right in our path.”
  • (Near statue in the Underground Passage): "I don't think that statue's eyes are glowing to provide illumination. Best be careful."
  • (Found malnourished Torchstalks behind the Makeshift Prison): "Something tells me I should give that mushroom a wide berth."
  • (Found dead tiefling children after goblins' attack on the grove): “This is what we sowed. Shar's darkness will embrace the children now.”
  • (Found the vines all around the grove blocking the entrance): “Impressive, as weeds go.”
    • (Found the vines all around the grove, knows about Rite of Thorns): “All entrances sealed tight.”
  • (Tried to attack the vines): “I won't be getting through these things - nor will anyone else.”

The Forest and the Owlbear Nest

  • (Dealt with Andrik and Brynna, not knowing about the cult of Absolute): “Absolute? True what? What were those raving fools on about?”
    • (Responding remark): “They're clearly devoted to the Absolute. Whatever that is.”
  • (Heard about the cult previously from Sazza): “They spoke of the Absolute, same as that captive goblin. They must be part of the same sect.”
    • (Responding remark): “Looks like the Absolute's drawing all sorts to become followers. Impressive, in a way.”
  • (Saw Edowin’s tadpole exerting from his body): “That tadpole wasted no time in abandoning its host. Not sentimental creatures, clearly.”
  • (Responding remark): “All the more reason to rid ourselves of our own uninvited guests.”
  • (Found Exsanguinated Boar): “Curious. No wounds on that boar, but doesn't quite look like it died peacefully either…”
  • (Healed the Mother Owlbear): “Beast still looks murderous. Not sure it appreciates the healing touch...”
  • (Found Mother Owlbear killed by goblins, if the party have spared her earlier): “Seems like a pack of goblins swarmed the owlbear.”
  • (Responding remark): “Not a fate I'd wish on any creature.”
  • (Found a shrine to Selûne, Religion check):
    • (Successful): "Looks like a shrine to Selûne over there."
    • (Failed): "Looks like there's a little shrine over there."
    • (Successful, if it’s already known she’s a Sharran): "A Selûne statue? In a stinking cave? Hardly a place of honour, even for the likes of her."
    • (Failed, if it’s already known she’s a Sharran): "A Selûne statue? In a stinking cave? Hardly a place of honour."
  • (Near the magically sealed chest): "There's magic at play here - a spell keeping this chest shut."
  • (Found a Selûnite Prayer Sheet, Investigation check):
    • (Successful): “A Selûnite prayer. Marked with the same symbol as the chest. I'll have to sully my tongue and recite it.”
    • (Failed): “A prayer and a symbol. Perhaps it does more than just flatter Selûne…”
    • (Tried to open without disarming magical seal):Agh! There's magic guarding this thing...”
    • (Opened the chest by reading the prayer): “That's it? A few pious words and the magic's dispelled?”
    • (Failed to recite the prayer): “Nothing but empty words, clearly.”
  • (Picked up the scroll with the Selûnite Rite): "Selûnite coming-of-age rites? Barbaric nonsense."
    • (If the party does not know she’s Sharran): “Worthless.”

Sunlit Wetlands/Putrid Bog

Dealing with Demir and Johl:

  • (Saw Auntie Ethel disappeared after helping her against brothers): "Magic? Ethel is less helpless she made out. I don't trust her."
    • (Responding remark): “I'd be happy to be wrong, but she makes my skin crawl. Watch yourself around her.”
  • (Found the brothers dead, haven’t met them): “These two were made to suffer, whoever they were.”
    • (Responding remark): “Whoever or whatever did this could still be around...”
    • (Have encountered them arguing with Ethel): “These two won't be helping their sister. Or doing anything else, for that matter.”
    • (Responding remark): "Whoever did this wanted them to suffer. We need to be careful."

At the Druid Sanctuary/Decrepit Sanctuary:

  • (Read Kagha’s recruitment letter from Shadow Druids): “Shadow Druids... it seems Kagha's been keeping secrets.”
    • (Responding remark): “Useful information. Or dangerous. Both, likely.”
    • (Read the letter before meeting Kagha): “Seems like some Shadow Druids turned someone called 'Kagha' to their cause.”
  • (Noticed the knife-damaged tree bark): “There's a hollow in that tree... looks hand-carved.”
    • (Saw the damaged bark, knowing about Kagha’s letter): “This looks like the tree mentioned in Kagha's note.”

Elsewhere in the Wetlands/Bog:

  • (Found a sword and a helmet in the middle of the bog X: -3 Y: 277): “Rather fine blade and hat. Left behind by some unfortunate adventure-seeker, perhaps.”
  • (Tried to pick a fruit from a Barbed Bulrush, pricked a finger): “Owh! That smarts.”
  • (Found a slaughtered campsite on the riverbank): "Unlucky choice of campsite, judging by all the blood."
    • (Nature check, successful): “Redcaps. They certainly made a mess here…”
    • (Failed): “Whatever did this must've worked itself into quite a frenzy.”
  • (After defeating Gandrel, stood by Astarion): "Speaking truthfully, I'm a little surprised you chose to shield Astarion".
    • (Responding remark): “He's not without his uses - as long as we can keep him in line.”
  • (Betrayed Astarion to Gandrel): “Vampire spawn or not, I'm surprised you actually surrendered Astarion like that…”
    • (Responding remark): “He was interesting company, all things considered. Pretty, arrogant, and bitey. Like a cat.”

In the Riverside Teahouse/Gnarled Teahouse:

  • (Near the fireplace in hag’s house, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “An illusion - with a passage hidden behind it.”
    • (Failed): “No time to be warming myself by a fire.”
  • (After Ethel didn’t succeed to extract the tadpole): “Bad enough to have a tadpole, never mind one that's been tampered with.”
    • (Responding remark): “We need to keep looking for a way to get rid of these things - they've overstayed their welcome as it is.”
  • (Ethel fled from the house, peaceful encounter): “Off to find someone else to ensnare in her dealings, no doubt.”
    • (Ethel fled from the house escaping a combat): “Now where has she slithered off to...?”
  • (Reached out to Connor’s coffin while the hag is still alive):Agh! That stings.”
    • (Tried to touch it second time):Agh! Still stings... don't know what else I expected.”

In the Overgrown Tunnel and the Ancient Abode:

  • (Chasing after Ethel through the illusory fireplace): “Where's that hag scurried off to now...?”
  • (Entering the Overgrown Tunnel): “Such charming aesthetics this place has.”
  • (After speaking with Lorin in the Entrance Gallery): “A mind flayer? Hopefully there's no truth to his ravings.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “Just a trick, surely. We're being toyed with.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “Probably another of the hag's mind games. Nothing more.”
  • (Lorin died after being forced out of his corner): “Looked like his heart gave out. I've seen it before.”
    • (Responding remark): “His heart gave out - with a little magical push, I'll wager.”
  • (Put on a Whispering Mask and saw through illusion): “Talk about appearances being deceiving...”
    • (Failed a Wisdom save against Ethel’s mask): “Get out of my head at once!”
    • (Freed from Ethel’s masks mind control): “Ugh. I've enough trespassers in my head without her joining in the fun.”
    • (Other hag’s victims act neutral when wearing a Whispering Mask): “They're not attacking - thanks to the mask, no doubt.”
  • (Wandered into Ethel’s lair, the hag is not there): “The air's foul. What is this place?”
    • (Responding remark): “Keep your guard up. This place reeks of death.”
  • (Entered Acrid Workshop): “It's like an abattoir in here.”
    • (Responding remark): “A lot of unfortunates drew their final breath in here, I think.”
  • (After Ethel’s set Mayrina’s cage on fire): “She'll be roast like a goose if that fire isn't put out.”
  • (After resurrecting Connor Vinderblad): “Not quite the outcome we were expecting, is it?”
    • (Responding remark): “Forget it. The milk's already spilled.”

Blighted Village

  • (Spotted goblins' ambush upon entering the village): “Goblins ahead. Looks like they're laying an ambush.”

At the blacksmith's house and cellar:

  • (Picked up Selûnite Necklace in blacksmith’s house): “Moon witch rubbish. How much time did some dimwitted artisan waste on that?”
    • (If the party does not know she’s a Sharran): “Not to my tastes, certainly...”
  • (Found blacksmith's blueprints): "Plans. Looks like someone was intending to forge weapons."
    • (Responding remark): "Not too refined here - just quick ideas sketched out."
    • (Found another set of blueprints on the wall near the smithy): “More plans. Must be from the same blacksmith.”
    • (Responding remark, if already knows about adding Sussur Tree Bark): “These don't mention sussur bark though. Perhaps an earlier draft.”
  • (Added sussur bark to the melting forge, has read blueprints): “Right. Now I need to add a greatsword, sickle, or a dagger.”
    • (Hasn’t seen blueprints): “All right. What comes next?”
    • (If has read apprentice’s journal, but hasn’t seen blueprints): “These weapons sound worth forging... if I can find the design.”
  • (Found a crumbling wall in the cellar): “This wall's ready to tumble.”

In the Whispering Depths:

  • (After climbing down the well rope, Survival check):
    • (Successful): "Best not touch these webs or I'll end up as a meal."
    • (Failed): "You could spin a cloak from all these cobwebs."
    • (Touched the web and heard Ettercap's shriek): "Sounds like something's less than pleased…"
  • (Felt air motion from the deeper pit): “Endless dark. Transfixing, isn't it? Who knows what's down there.”
    • (Responding remark): “Mind your footing. The bones of the careless are probably littered down there.”

In the Apothecary's Cellar:

  • (Upon entering the secret cellar): “Hmm. What might be tucked away in here?”
  • (Found the tome): “'The Necromancy of Thay'? Not a children's book, I assume.”
  • (If the party knows about Gale’s needs): “ 'The Necromancy of Thay'? Not a children's book, I assume. Gale may want it though.”
    • (If the tome was destroyed): “Hmm. Probably wise of you to get rid of that thing.”

The deal with Lump the Enlightened:

  • (Blowing Lump's War Horn, if the ogres are dead): “Can't summon any ogres now. Not unless this horn has necromantic properties...”
  • (Responding remark): “Doesn't matter how loud the horn's blown - dead ogres can't hear it.”
  • (Blowing the horn, while staying at the camp): “Hmm. Probably best to not have ogres traipsing through the camp, come to think of it...”
  • (Blowing the horn, if the ogres are too far away to hear it): “No sense in bursting my lungs on this horn - the ogres are too far away to hear it.”
  • (Blowing the horn, if deal with the ogres is done): “A waste of breath. The ogres won't answer this thing anymore.”

Elsewhere in the village:

  • (Found a hopscotch game): "Looks familiar… did I play this once? Long ago…?"
  • (After killing Grukkoh and Buthir): “An ogre and a bugbear. Not an eyeful I'd care to experience twice.”
    • (Responding remark): “Let's just put this behind us. Far behind us.”
  • (Found the Curious Book): “Hmm. Seems like someone liked their books to have a twist.”
    • (Responding remark): “Squeeze a silk blanket in there and you'd have all the makings of a pleasant evening.”
  • (Picked up the Old Schoolbook): "Someone's diary. Might explain what happened here."

Goblin Camp

At the gate and in the outer camp:

  • (After any party member knocked a rhythm on a War Drum near the outer gate): "That should alert a good few goblins to our presence. Not planning on discretion, then?"
  • (After any party member smeared worg dung on their face): "I'd rather have a second tadpole than do that."
  • (Walking among the celebrating goblins): “We have to find Halsin before it's too late. I doubt these goblins care much for their prisoners' welfare.”
    • (Responding remark): “Let's keep an eye out - and hope he's still drawing breath when we find him.”
  • (Freed the Owlbear Cub and directed it to the camp): "Not your typical pet. Hopefully it doesn't wreck the camp when it gets there."
  • (Saw sleeping drunk goblins at the platform above the entrance): “Blackout drunk, the lot of them. You can smell it from here.”
    • (Responding remark): “Easy to liberate some purses or slit a few throats... if you were so inclined.”
  • (Found a loose wall at the upper section of the outer camp): “Loose brickwork. Best not lean against it.”

Wandering around the outer camp:

  • (Recognized the ruins as a Selûnite temple):
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 1): "So many Selûne statues. But no worshippers."
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 2): "Some deluded fool actually took time to carve this."
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 3): "No Selûnites left to bow before this."
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 4): "More Selûne dedications. What happened, I wonder?"
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 5): "More Selûne idolatry. No sign of her followers though."
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 6): "Selûnites wouldn't have abandoned this place willingly. What happened?"
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran, 1): "A disgusting waste of stonecraft."
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran, 2): "All these blasted statues. At least the worshippers are long dead or gone."
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran, 3): "All of these idols should be torn down. Another time, perhaps."
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran, 4): "More vile idolatry. Makes my stomach turn. For once, the goblins' decorations are an improvement."
  • (Hasn't recognized the ruins as a Selûnite temple):
    • (The party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 1): "A statue of Selûne. This ruin must have been dedicated to her."
    • (The party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 2): "This ruin's dedicated to Selûne. What happened here...?"
    • (The party knows she's a Sharran, 1): "A statue of Selûne. This ruin must have been dedicated to her. And now it's a nest for some filthy goblins. A fitting end, heh."
    • (The party knows she's a Sharran, 2): "This ruin's dedicated to Selûne. Vile moon witch... For once, the goblins' decorations are an improvement."
  • (Saw a mural near the waypoint):
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 1): "Selûne's markings… she was worshipped here, once. (Also comes if Shadowheart is played as an avatar)
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran, 2): "More Selûnite markings. No worshippers left though."
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran, 1): "More heretical symbols. Of course."
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran, 2): "Her patronage couldn't spare this place from goblins, clearly. Heh."
    • (Conclusion, if Shadowheart is played as an avatar): "Now left to ruin and goblins. Good."
  • (If the party has already interrogated Liam):
    • (Saw a mural near waypoint): "Could there truly be a temple of Shar here...?"
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran): "Selûne statues everywhere. How could a temple of Shar be here also?"
    • (If the party doesn't know she's a Sharran): "Selûne symbols everywhere... surely there can't be a temple of Shar here."
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran): "Vile statues everywhere. How could a temple of Shar be here also?"
    • (If the party knows she's a Sharran): "Heretic idolatry everywhere... surely there can't be a temple of Shar here."

In the Shattered Sanctum:

  • (Noticed a Scrying Eye): “A scrying eye. Better keep any mischief out of its view.”
  • (Talked to either Dror Ragzlin or Minthara, and they mentioned “the weapon”): “No prizes for guessing what this 'weapon' they're after really is. The artefact.”
    • (Responding remark): “They must not find out we have it.”
  • (Responding remark on avatar's comment on receiving "penance" from Abdirak): "Are you so easily entertained?"
  • (Found a blocked trapdoor in Ragzlin’s throne room): “Blocked on the other side.”
  • (Killed Minthara): “That's her finished. An impressive scalp to lay claim to.”
  • (Killed Priestess Gut): “Good riddance to that grimy wretch.”

In Worg Pens:

  • (Halsin died while in bear form and reshaped after death): “Wait... he was no true bear. I need to see that corpse.”
    • (Halsin died, players spoke to him previously): “Halsin's gone... but maybe his corpse can reveal a useful secret or two.”
  • (Halsin escaped Worg Pens on his own, the party hasn’t been to grove): “Looks like something broke free... and tore its way through its captors...”
    • (the party does not know about Halsin missing): “Looks like someone broke free... one of the adventurers? Maybe they're back at the grove.”
    • (the party knows Halsin was missing): “Claw marks and magic wounds... the work of Halsin maybe? He must've left for the grove.”
    • (the party met him afterwards): “Must be where Halsin escaped from - looks like his handiwork. Or claw-work, rather.”
    • (the party knows only about the adventurers): “Looks like someone escaped from there - rather violently. One of the adventurers?”
  • (Trying to use the tunnel left after drawing out Taeglyn's body): “Tunnel's still blocked. It'll take a bit more effort to clear it.”

While heading to the Underdark:

  • (Approaching Selûnite disc riddle, read the Dwarf's Poem):
    • (Successful Investigation check): "Moons and stars, like in the dwarf's poem. Looks like these plates can move."
    • (Failed): "Selûnite moons and stars, just like the dwarf's poem described."
  • (Approaching the riddle, hasn't read the poem):
    • (Successful Investigation check): "Looks like these plates on the floor can be turned."
    • (Failed): "What is this?"
  • (After the riddle is solved): "Quite the descent. Best get started."

Underdark

At the Selûnite Outpost and around:

  • (Approaching portcullis, saw a Minotaur killed by traps): "Those flames will make short work of anyone who gets too close."
    • (Responding remark): “More effort than a pit of spikes. Credit where it's due.”
  • (Felt the quake): "What the…? Hells, this place is ready to collapse."
  • (Approaching myconid spore-guarded territory, Nature check):
    • (Successul): "The air's thick with spores. They must thrive in the dark."
    • (Failed): "There's something in the air. I can feel it with every breath."
  • (Approaching a group of petrified Drow): “Somehow I doubt these figures were made with hammer and chisel...”
  • (Killed the Spectator, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “Since when can spectators petrify their victims...?”
    • (Failed): “That was too close of a fight for my liking. Better be careful down here.”

In the Ebonlake Grotto and Decrepit Village:

  • (Met the Myconids for the first time, Intelligence check failed): “I don't care for mushrooms on a plate, never mind... like that.”
  • (Looking at Spaw planting spores into a corpse): “What's that thing doing with the dead? Feeding?”
  • (Saw a corpse revived as a Spore Servant): “Bringing back slain foes as your lackeys? Clever.”
    • (Responding remark): “What's a little stench in exchange for a lot of power?”
  • (Found the remains of duergar and myconids’ battle): “Looks like there was a fight. No love lost between duergar and myconids, it seems.”
  • (Approached abandoned camp in the Decrepit Village): “A camp. Looks like it's been sitting empty a while.”
  • (Killed Glut): “Glut will have to settle for being mulch instead of ruler.”
    • (Responding remark): “I'm not sure I know how to eulogise a giant mushroom. Can we leave?”

In the Dread Hollow:

  • (Found Hook Horror markings, Survival check):
    • (Successful): "These gouges... something's marking its territory. Best be careful."
    • (Failed): "These markings look recent. What could've left them...?"
  • (Saw a Hook Horror up on the cliff, eating a gnome): “Look at the barbs on that thing... Shar preserve me.”
  • (Heard Hook Horror calling for reinforcement in battle): “What's it calling to? Are there more of them?”
  • (Saw Bulette’s holes, Nature check):
    • (Successful): “Quite the burrow-hole. I'd rather not meet its maker.”
    • (Failed): “Did something dig this...?”
  • (Felt Bulette burrowing beneath): “What the...?”
  • (Bulette approaching, Nature check):
    • (Succeeded): "A bulette. Those things are vicious."
    • (Failed): "That thing didn't look friendly, whatever it is."
  • (Bulette reappeared after hiding underground): “The message didn't quite sink in, I see.”
  • (Approaching Sussur Tree): "Something about that tree... almost like an invisible hand pulling me towards it."
  • (Feeling Sussur Tree impact): "There's something about these flowers... feels like my magic's wilting."
  • (Found Myrna's dog collar after digging out the grave at X: -41 Y: -212): “A collar. What are these runes along it?”
    • (Responding remark, read Letter from Amarith): “Final resting place of Lenore's pet, I'll wager.”
    • (Responding remark, hasn’t read the letter): “No matter. The Underdark's probably full of lost oddities.”

In the Arcane Tower:

  • (Approaching the entrance, saw scorched ground from Arcane Turrets): “Burn marks, and not from someone's campfire either. Best be careful.”
  • (Read any poem book in the tower): “Hmm. I can think of better places to enjoy literature than in the depths of the Underdark...”
  • (Felt Weave emanations from the Chest of the Mundane, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “Magic - from that chest. I can feel it.”
    • (Failed): “I feel something. Magic... but where?”
  • (Put an item IN the chest): “This chest - it disguises whatever's placed in it.”
  • (Took an item OUT of the chest): “Wait. This was different a moment ago...”
  • (Interact with lights without activating Power generator): “Doesn't look like I can light these... at least not by normal means.”
    • (Activated Power generator): “Magical illumination. Useful if you don't have flint or a taper to hand...”
  • (Blocked lift in the Arcane tower, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “Powered by magic, it seems. Now to just get it working...”
    • (Failed): “Not a budge. Better take a look around...”
    • (Try to trigger it second time): “Still nothing. Bloody contraption.”
  • (Pressed the strange button in Lenore’s bedroom, doesn’t have the collar): “The button does nothing. And why's it barely above the floor? Strange.”
    • (Pressed the button, has Myrna's collar in inventory): “The old collar with the runes - I just felt it tremble.”
    • (Pressed the button, a party member wears the collar): “The collar's trembling. Must be something nearby that's causing it. ”
    • (Pressed the button, got a Raw Steak): “Well look at that - self-service for a pet. Or other collar-wearer, I suppose...”
    • (Pressed the button second time): “Looks like the larder's run empty.”
  • (Put on the ring obtained from Bernard): “A button... revealed thanks to this ring, no doubt.”
  • (Sat down on the Stool of Hill Giant Strength): "This chair... I feel stronger just from sitting in it."
    • (Got up from it): "The strength vanishes as soon as I stand. Curious."
    • (Destroyed the stool and took the leg club): “Hmm. As much as I enjoy a sit-down, a strengthening bludgeon is more useful...”

Collecting the lore on the Adamantine Forge:

  • (First learned about the adamantine forge): “An adamantine forge? Curious.”
  • (Looted disguised book from Xargrim, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “Mating Rituals? No... this book has something even juicier - hidden by a spell.”
    • (Failed): “'Flumph Mating Rituals'...?[4] That drow must've gotten very lonely down here.”
    • (If already interrogated Xargrim's corpse): “This must be the book that dead drow spoke of. Magic's hiding its true contents.”
    • (The book transformed, the party knew it was disguised): “Hmm. Looks like 'Flumph Mating Rituals' has revealed its true colours.”
    • (The party didn’t know): “The true contents of that book on flumphs were hidden by magic - ingenious.”
  • (Looted Filro’s records, not knowing about the forge): “This gibberish is giving me a headache.”
    • (Deciphered the record scroll): “The forge is guarded by something vulnerable to a 'hot hammer'. Might be useful - or gibberish.”
    • (If learned about the forge first from Filro): “These notes speak of an adamantine forge hidden deep below.”
      • (Responding remark, successfully deciphered drow’s records): “Something's guarding it... something vulnerable to a 'hot hammer', whatever that is.”
      • (Failed to decipher the record scroll): “There's more written about it... scrawled, more like. I can't figure it out.”
  • (Second mention of the forge): “More talk of this adamantine forge. Quite the attraction, it seems.”
    • (The party knows about it from Filro’s corpse): “Seems the mad drow wasn't alone in hunting this adamantine forge.”
    • (The party knows about it from Filro’s notes): “More about this forge. But the other notes mentioned some sort of guardian...”
    • (The party knows about it from Dhourn/Dhourn’s corpse): “The adamantine forge - the same the wizard Dhourn was hunting for, it seems.”
    • (The party knows about it from Dhourn’s Memory Shard): “The adamantine forge - its location already revealed of course, thanks to the memory shard.”
    • (The party knows about it from Xargrim’s corpse): “An adamantine forge? The same as that dead drow spoke of, surely.”
    • (The party knows about it from Xargrim’s disguised book): “That journal mentioned the adamantine forge as well. Quite the obsession.”
    • (The party knows about it from Skarjall): “An Adamantine Forge. The duergar spoke of this.”
  • (Third mention of the forge): “Again with the adamantine forge. These people need a new hobby.”

Dealing with Mushroom Circles in the Underdark and beyond:

  • (Found dead drow at the foot of the crag, Medicine check):
    • (Successful): “This drow's cracked like an egg. Must have fallen quite some height.”

  • (Found illusory mushroom “ladder” leading toward crag top at X: 67 Y: -256): “An illusion. Better tread carefully.”
  • (Found illusory wall on the top of the crag): “An illusion. Must be something worth hiding beyond it.”
  • (Approaching a mushroom ring, knows its purpose): “A fairy ring. It doesn't glow like the others though.”
    • (Not knowing the purpose): “Mushrooms growing in a perfectly neat circle? Curious.”
  • (Entered a mushroom ring, knows its purpose): “This fairy ring isn't working for some reason.”
    • (Not knowing the purpose): “Hmm. Thought that might've done something.”
  • (Activated the mushroom ring): “The ring's a different colour from what it was before...”
  • (Teleported from the Underdark into Overgrown Tunnel, Ethel is dead): “The hag's lair. She must've had dealings in the Underdark.”
  • (Teleported from the Underdark into Overgrown Tunnel, Ethel survived): “The hag's lair. Hardly an improvement on the Underdark...”
  • (Teleported from the Overgrown Tunnel to the Putrid Bog): “The swamp. Of course. Wouldn't want to be teleported anywhere pleasant, naturally.”
  • (Teleported from the Overgrown Tunnel into the Underdark, hasn’t been to Underdark earlier): “How in the... this looks like the Underdark!”
  • (Teleported from the Overgrown Tunnel into the Underdark, has been to Underdark): “A shortcut to the Underdark. Interesting.”
  • (Teleported from the Putrid Bog into Overgrown Tunnel, Ethel is dead): “The hag liked to save herself some walking, it seems.”
  • (Teleported from the Putrid Bog into Overgrown Tunnel, Ethel survived): “The hag's lair. Wonderful.”
  • (Teleported from the Underdark to the Putrid Bog): “Nothing like being dropped in a stinking bog in the blink of an eye...”
  • (Teleported from the Underdark to the Sunlit Wetlands (Ethel’s illusion is still intact)): “Nothing like being dropped in the wetlands in the blink of an eye...”

Elsewhere in the Underdark:

  • (Entering Zhentarim storehouse): "A Zhentarim symbol. Those outlaws must be operating here."
  • (Entering Zhentarim storehouse, descending from Zhentarim Hideout): "Quite a set-up. This takes smuggling to new lengths... or new depths, rather."

  • (Heard Baelen’s cries for help): “Calls for help. Could be genuine... or a trap.”
  • (Killed all Kuo-toa in Festering Cove, dissipating BOOOAL’s magic): “Seems like his godlike powers died with his followers.”

Grymforge

At the Clan Flameshade camp:

  • (Arriving at the Grymforge): “This stonework looks more suited to the surface than the Underdark... who built this?”
  • (Met a Scrying Eye): “A scrying eye - someone's watching through it. Better be careful.”
    • (Met a Scrying Eye, seen one in the Goblin Camp): “Another eye - same as in the goblin camp. Someone's watching from afar.”
    • (Responding remark to both options): “Better be careful around it.”
    • (Looted a dead Scrying Eye): “A scrying eye. At least this one won't be telling anyone what I've been up to.”
  • (Saw Drow corpses in cages near the pier): “Displaying a drow corpse in the Underdark? Someone's trying to make a statement...”
  • (Looted the Engraved Pin from a Drow corpse, History check):
    • (Successful): “A Harper pin - how'd it get all the way down here?”
    • (Failed): “Interesting bauble, but I don't recognise the symbol.”
  • (After talking to Stonemason Kith): “A Sharran construct? That bears investigating.”
    • (Responding remark): “Not sure what to make of this 'hellbeast' talk, though.”
  • (Found Dark Justiciars’ skeletons): “Fallen Dark Justiciars. Halsin said they once had a stronghold down here...”

  • (Found a crossbow in an old crate, History check):
    • (Successful): “Not a duergar design... this crossbow is meant for a warrior of Shar.”
    • (Failed): “A fine crossbow. Too fine to be duergar-made.”
  • (Looted a piece of adamantine, knows about the forge): “Those glimmering specks... that's adamantine, I'll wager.”
    • (Doesn’t know about it): “Glimmering specks in that slag. Hardly worth the trouble of mining.”
  • (Found defaced statue of Shar, recognized the symbol of the Absolute): “Defaced by the Absolute's lackeys. Cowards.”
    • (Did not recognize the symbol): “Desecration. What is this nonsense symbol?”
  • (If Nere died in the cave-in): “All quiet - Nere must've died. Which means he won't be needing his head, of course...”
  • (Looking at the Shar temple down from the ruined bridge): “Quite a sight - but I won't be able to get any closer this way.”
    • (If the party knows she’s a Sharran): “What is that place in the distance? It looks almost Sharran...”
    • (Suspecting Dark Justiciar actions in the region): “That almost looks like... no, it couldn't be, surely...”
    • (If the party knows she’s a Sharran, AND Suspecting Dark Justiciar actions in the region): “Almost looks like a temple, dedicated to Lady Shar... it's huge...”
    • (Told the avatar about her dreams of becoming a Dark Justiciar): “That place in the distance... it can only mean one thing. Dark Justiciars. I just know it.”

Exploring the Sharran city:

  • (Found the traces of Thulla’s escape, Perception check):

    • (Successful): “Broken shackles, near-miss arrows, a trail of blood... looks like a gnome escaped.”
    • (Failed): “Something happened here... but what?”
  • (Respond to Harper’s watchword from Undelivered Letter, History check):
    • (Successful):Lux... light. Maybe a Light spell will disarm the chest.”

  • (Approaching the location of the Harper Stash): “There should be a Harper's stash here someplace, if that letter's to be believed.”
  • (Saw the Harpers’ rune, hasn’t read the Undelivered Letter, Survival check):
    • (Successful): “A Harper symbol. They must've hidden supplies nearby.”
    • (Failed): “Odd symbol. What does it mean?”

    • (Successful): “A Harper would never leave their stash exposed like that... unless it's a trap.”
    • (Failed): “Well then. Let's have a peek.”
  • (Entered a banquet hall, Religion check):
    • (Successful): “This was a Nightfall feast. To break bread in Shar's name, then spill blood in her name. A sacred rite.”

    • (Does not know about her): “Someone climbed up here. Must've been nimble to make this ascent.”
  • (Found a Devilfoil Mask): “What a curious mask...”
    • (Arcana check successful): “Wait, this is a merregon's mask. Warriors of the Nine Hells.”
    • (Failed): “Perhaps the creatures of the Underdark had a masquerade ball. I'd like to see that.”
    • (Arcana check successful, knows about merregons’ habits): “A merregon's mask, no less. Those infernal soldiers only fight with a commander at their side - and I don't see one here...”
    • (Doubts whether the merregons’ commander is dead): “Whatever commanded these merregons didn't die here. Let's hope it returned to the Hells.”

  • (Interacted with the Orb of Darkvision): “That feeling... Shar reaches out to me.”
  • (Read Abandoned Journal): “Tried to hide from the merregons. Not that it helped.” (triggers after finding at least one Devilfoil Mask)
  • (Stepped on a platform held by chains, leading to the Adamantine Forge): “I don't suppose there's a stairs, is there?”

In the Adamantine Forge:

  • (Coming closer to the Adamantine forge): “This heat - I can see the air shimmering. The forge must be nearby.”

    • (Saw the forge for the first time 2): “The adamantine forge. Incredible - must have taken years to build.”
  • (Filled the crucible with Mithral Ore): “Full up.”
  • (Interacting with mould chamber, has at least one Mould): “That mould should slot in here.”
    • (Doesn’t have any moulds): “Something missing here. A mould, I'd wager.”
    • (Filled only crucible, hasn’t any moulds): “Nothing. Seems like I'll need more than just the raw materials to get this thing working.”
    • (Filled only crucible): “Right then. I just need to insert the mould.”
    • (Placed only mould): “Should work now - as soon as I find some metal to feed it.”
    • (Filled and placed both, seeking how to activate): “Everything's in order. Let's see what this contraption can do.”
  • (The platform moves down after activating): “A staircase would've been too conventional, I suppose.”
  • (Trying to forge without lava): “Hmm. Got the metal, got the mould... but missing something.”
    • (If has already crafted one piece): “The mould and metal aren't much use without heat - the lava.”
  • (Forged the first item, Grym appears): “I think that disturbed something's slumber...”
  • (Fighting Grym, the forge hammer doesn’t damage it): “I might as well be wielding a feather! What's wrong with this thing?”
    • (Successfully damaged Grym with the hammer): “Yes! You felt that one, didn't you?”
  • (Magma Mephits appear during the fight): “Hells. Anything else going to join in? A dragon? Some spiders maybe?”
  • (Defeated Grym): “It's done for - and not a moment too soon.”
  • (Approaching the lava lake, Nature check):
    • (Successful): “Something's got this lava stirred up.”
    • (Failed): “Lava. Better watch my footing around here.”
  • (Noticed Lava Elemental, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “No wonder the lake is so treacherous, with a lava elemental fanning the flames.”
    • (Failed): “A lava elemental. That thing could melt armour and flesh alike.”

The Risen Road and Mountain Pass

In and around the Tollhouse:

  • (Saw dead gnolls on the bridge to the Tollhouse): “Dead gnolls. Looks like someone toyed with them - made the pain last.”
  • (Saw rockfall and wreckage near the Tollhouse): “Collapsed tunnel. Looks like it claimed some victims as well.”
  • (Agreed to help Anders, but found out that his crew are Zariel’s servants): “You're not actually intending to waste time hunting this Karlach person, are you?”
    • (Responding remark): “I hope this proves to be worthwhile. We can hardly afford distractions.”
  • (Entering Tollhouse basement): "That corpse smells ripe. Enough time for its killer to have moved on."
  • (Stepped on a pressure plate in the tollhouse vault): “Hmm... there's something more to this. What am I missing?”
  • (Found the skeletal couple under the broken bridge): “It's been a while since these two breathed their last.”
    • (Successful History check): "A Harper and a druid, judging by the heraldry. Died together."
    • (Failed): “They're long past caring if we help ourselves to their belongings, at least.”
    • (Failed 2): “What's this heraldry on these two's armour? No matter, it might come in useful...”

Fighting gnolls and dealing with missing shipment:

  • (After one of hyenas fled): “That hyena's making a break for it.”
  • (Witnessed a birth of a gnoll from dying hyena, knows about gnolls’ presence in area): “The whole place is infested. There might be more blade-work ahead...”
    • (Responding remark 1): “Vile beasts. Nothing good is born from a corpse.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “Let's move. The smell of blood will draw trouble.”
  • (Witnessed a birth of a gnoll, seq 2): “Ugh. Anything that enters the world like that deserves to swiftly exit it again.”
    • (Responding remark): “Our tadpoles have competition for the most vile parasite, clearly.”
  • (Witnessed a birth of a gnoll, seq 3 - knows about gnolls’ presence in area): “Trust gnolls to enter this world in the most grotesque way possible.”
    • (Responding remark): “Vile creatures. Nothing that's born of a corpse should be allowed to live.”
  • (Found the missing shipment, Rugan dead, hasn’t met Zarys): “That's a curious-looking chest. I wonder what's inside.”
    • (Responding remark): “No harm in taking a peek, surely.”
  • (Found the missing shipment, Rugan dead, has met Zarys): “Zarys was looking for this chest. If we want to bring it back to her, we should keep it intact.,”
    • (Responding remark): “She'll pay handsomely for its safe return... but what's inside that she cares about so much?”
  • (Found the missing shipment, conspired with Rugan, has met Zarys): “Zarys was looking for this chest. Surely there's something valuable inside.”
    • (Responding remark): “Whatever's inside belongs to us now.”

At Waukeen's Rest and Zhentarim Hideout:

  • (Failed a Strength check to kick out the front door): “Worth looking for another way in before this place is reduced to ashes.”
  • (Walking near the burning door in the tavern): “That door feels like a furnace. Best be careful opening it.”

  • (Saw the haystack with hidden dowry, Investigation check):
    • (Successful): “There's something hidden in here, in the hay.”
    • (Failed): “You'd think some starving beast would've eaten this hay by now...”
  • (Found a secret entrance to the Zhentarim Hideout): “Nicely designed. Secrecy always inspires ingenuity.”
  • (Illusory wall in the Zhentarim Hideout, successful Investigation check): “An illusion. There must be something worth being kept secret through there.”
  • (After the Flaming Fist guard refused to attack the Zhentarim): “If Flaming Fists shy away from a fight, then it's probably a fight best avoided.”

Meeting with the githyanki scouts near the Mountain Pass:

  • (Found giant scratches near Mountain Pass entrance): “Look at these gouges... tore through rock like it was butter.”

  • (Failed): “Anything with claws that big is best avoided.”
  • (Saw a red dragon): “A dragon. Hells above - quite literally.”
    • (Responding remark): “It would be too much to hope that's nothing to do with us, wouldn't it?”
    • (Saw a red dragon, Frightened): “Hells. Not another dragon. Anything but a dragon.”
    • (Responding remark, Frightened): “The size of that thing. Looks so much bigger when it's flying above you...”
  • (Read a roadsign after dragon’s attack): “Whoever wrote this sign clearly didn't expect a dragon to wreck the detour.”
  • (Picked up dead mercenary’s shield): “Still warm, like it's fresh from the blacksmith's forge.”
    • (Responding remark): “Not much protection against dragon breath.”
  • (Leaving the area after Lae'zel went to speak with Voss): “Lae'zel might not be my warmest friend, but are we going to just abandon her like that?”
    • (Responding remark): “She made her choice. We have to do what's best for ourselves.”
  • (Reacting to the sight of Lae’zel’s dead body): “Those gith are a rabid lot - best we keep well clear of them.”

Rosymorn Monastery

Walking down the Rosymorn Monastery Trail:

  • (Looking at the valley vista from the viewpoint X: -30 Y: -100): “View's quite breathtaking - or maybe that was just the climb.”

  • (Approaching the statue of Lathander at X: 73 Y: 4): “Ah, Lathander - Trampler of the Undead.”
  • (Heard the warning from speaking bust, Arcana check):

    • (Failed): “I prefer my statues to be the strong, silent type, personally.”
  • (Found the corpse with a longsword in the chest, History check):
    • (Successful): “Cruel-looking blade. Must be githyanki.”
    • (Failed): “I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that thing.”
  • (Found active Guardian of Faith spell): “A Guardian of Faith spell. All this time, and it still holds strong.”
  • (In the Ceremonial room, removed the weapon from the altar): “It's stopped glowing. Is that good? Bad?”

  • (Heard Gremishka meowlings): “What is that? Almost sounds like weeping.”
  • (Recognized Gremishkas, ? check successful): “Gremishkas - they don't react well to magic. Better be careful with my spells.”
  • (Used magic close to a Gremishka): “Better avoid using magic around those things.”
  • (Entered a combat with drunk Kobolds): “That smell - I recognise that vintage. Those Kobolds are three sheets to the wind.”
  • (Pass by an inactive Lathander's Lance on the roof, knows the where creche is): “I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that thing. Maybe that's what happened to those gith nearby.”
    • (Doesn’t know the crèche location): “Quite a weapon. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of that thing.”
  • (Found a githyanki skeleton at X: 45 Y: 19, has been to the crèche): “Githyanki bones. Perhaps a fallen member of the original raiding party.”
    • (Hasn’t found the crèche yet): “Looks like a githyanki.”
  • (The Giant Eagle calling for help in combat): “Perfect. That screeching is bound to bring more of them down on us.”

Crèche Y'llek

  • (Entered the Dormitory): “Rather conventional beds, for githyanki. Do they cuddle plush red dragons, I wonder?”
  • (Read the parchment with the rules on the dormitory wall): “All these rules. Reminds me of home.”
  • (Set Gremishka loose from the gith kids’ chest): “Hells below, what's that?!”
    • (Responding remark): “That's what was in there? Those brats deserve a taste of their own medicine.”
  • (Looking at the devices in Stornugoss’ laboratory): “Gith contraptions. Curious, imagining them wielding something other than weapons.”
  • (Breathed in the Strange Gas in the Hatchery): “What's that ghastly stench? I feel light-headed...”
  • (Looking around in the Hatchery): “What is this place...?”
  • (Saw anatomical diagrams in the Classroom): “Anatomical sketches of a mind flayer? Not something to hang over the mantlepiece...”
  • (Hit a training dummy in the Classroom): “A mind flayer target dummy. Not quite as intimidating as the real thing.”

  • (Interacted with the deactivated barrier): “No need for this - the barrier's already down.”
  • (Walking the bridge that leads to Inquisitor’s Chamber): “Charming place. Makes the rest of the crèche look like, well, a non-githyanki crèche.”
    • (Responding remark): “I'll breathe easier once we're gone from here.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “Do you think this Inquisitor person is really going to help us?”
    • (Responding remark 3): “I'll keep an open mind. But I'll also keep my hand near a weapon.”

  • (Failed to rotate the statue in Inquisitor’s Chamber): “No use - it won't budge.”
  • (Hit the stuck statue weakly): “Damn - not quite hard enough”
  • (Solved the statue puzzle in Inquisitor’s Chamber): “A hidden door. Who has the time to design such things?”
  • (Upon entering the Dawnbreak Gate): “Looks untouched. Quite something, to have escaped notice all this time.”
  • (Took the Blood of Lathander, using Dawnmaster's Crest): “Quite a jealously guarded item, I must say.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “The monks were intent on keeping their relics safe. They didn't count on us, though.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “Let's be sure to make good use of our prize then.”
  • (Managed to stop the armed Lance): “That was a little too close for comfort.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “Indeed. I don't know what I'd look for in a final resting place, but this isn't it.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “A little more caution in future won't kill us. Quite the opposite, actually.”
  • (Managed to stop the armed Lance, answering to Lae'zel): “Take it down a notch - we managed to stop it, didn't we?”
  • (Near the armed Lance on the roof): “That machine's going blow - and it'll take this whole place with it!”

  • (Malus Thorm killed by his nurses): “Always a pleasure, watching your foes turn on themselves.”
  • (After Malus Thorm killed himself): “Fool. Someone so gullible has no business being near a scalpel.”
  • (In the Morgue, saw footprints): “Dust is sparse on that door - looks like it's been in use more recently.”
  • (Looking at the army camp from the cemetery cliff, knowing about the Absolute): “All those campfires - enough for an army. The Absolute's army.”
    • (Not knowing about the Absolute): “There's an entire army camping here, judging by the number of fires.”

In The Waning Moon:

  • (Upon entering The Waning Moon): “Looks like this used to be a distillery.”
    • (Responding remark): “I could use a drink after wandering these ruins.”
  • (Read the poster in front of the brewery): “'Missing: Rascal - brown puppy. Jagoda - black and white cat. Zola...' On it goes. What happened to these pets?”
    • (Already noticed the collars ner Tollhouse): “Missing pets - Zola, Rascal... Wait. Those are the names from those collars. Those blood-stained collars. Gods...”
  • (Starting a fight with Thisobald Thorm): “Damn thing's sozzled - might make for an unpredictable fight.”
  • (Killed Thisobald Thorm): “He's done for. I'll drink to that.”
  • (Found remains in the Waning Moon backroom): “I suppose there's worse things to drown in.”
    • (Found remains, having read Thisobald’s diary): “The reward for attempted blackmail, I think.”
  • (Voss’ Qua'nith Psionic Detector activated, Lae'zel spurned Vlaakith): “The psionic detector is acting up - their must be gith nearby.”
    • (Detector activated, Lae’zel rejected Voss): “That contraption from Voss is sounding out. Odd.”
  • (After defeating gith hunters, Lae’zel spurned Vlaakith): “It seems Voss was right - Vlaakith is intent on hunting us down.”
    • (Defeated hunters, Lae’zel rejected Voss): “A githyanki hunting party. Perhaps that device was trying to warn us, when it sounded out.”

Gauntlet of Shar

Approaching Thorm Mausoleum:

  • (Looking at old graves near the mausoleum, Religion check):
    • (Successful): “Makeshift Selûnite graves. They were buried with some haste, it seems.”
    • (Failed): “Makeshift graves. Whoever laid these people to rest was in quite a hurry.”
    • (Knowing the story of the conflict): “Makeshift Selûnite graves. They picked the wrong fight, and lost.”
    • (If she has already spurned Shar): “Makeshift graves, with Selûnite markings. Fallen in battle against Shar's forces, all that time ago.”
  • (Upon approaching the entrance): “Sigils... attempts to restrain Lady Shar's power, perhaps. Failed attempts.”
  • (Found Dark Justiciar corpses near temple, knows the story): “All these Dark Justiciars, slain in battle... they must have had a stronghold nearby, or a temple.”
  • (Not knowing the story): “So many Dark Justiciars, fallen in battle... their source must be nearby.”

Inside the Mausoleum:

  • (Heard Balthazar’s warning from the skull): “Balthazar - Ketheric Thorm's pet necromancer.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “Who knows what that corpse-botherer will have in store for us.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “Better stay alert.”
  • (Looking around the place): “Curious. Part of me thought there'd be more to this place...”
    • (Suspecting Dark Justiciar actions in the region): “There has to be more to this place. There has to be a reason I came to be here.”
    • (If told the avatar about her dreams of becoming a Dark Justiciar): “There's more to this place, I'm sure of it. Lady Shar's presence is near...”
  • (Saw Balthazar’s bone decorations): “All these bones. Seems there's been a graverobber at work here, and an artful one at that.”
  • (Found Myrkul's symbol drawn by Balthazar, Religion check):
    • (Successful): “That's Myrkul's symbol. I suppose a mausoleum's a fitting place for the Lord of the Dead.”
    • (Failed): “Eye-catching insignia. Not sure what it means though.”
  • (Found Balthazar’s map): “This map shows a temple of Shar... and something dangerous lurking within.”

Near Isobel's sarcophagus:

  • (Found the tomb open, before reading the plaque): “An open tomb. Something tells me this wasn't plundered by graverobbers.”
    • (Haven’t met Isobel yet): “Ketheric Thorm had a daughter? I wonder what happened.”
    • (Met Isobel, does not know her parentage): “Isobel... the Selûnite cleric from Last Light?”
    • (Responding remark): “Does this mean she is Ketheric Thorm's daughter? But she's alive...”
    • (Knowing both): “Isobel's not-so-final resting place. Ketheric Thorm has a problem with letting things die.”
  • (Triggered a disarmed trap around Isobel’s tomb): “I thought my luck had run out for a moment. Trap must be disarmed.”
  • (Looking at the mural depicting Moonrise Tower, haven’t visited it): “Impressive. What is that place?”
    • (Already been to Moonrise): “Moonrise Towers. It must have been quite a sight in its heyday.”
  • (Looking at the mural depicting grieving Ketheric, haven’t met him): “An elven warrior, mourning. But who is he?”
    • (Has met Ketheric): “Ketheric Thorm. Looks like he's mourning his daughter.”
  • (Looking at the mural depicting Ketheric with his army, not knowing the story): “That elf is leading an army of Dark Justiciars. Who is he?”
    • (Knows the story): “Ketheric Thorm leading a Dark Justiciar army. He fully embraced Shar.”

At the entrance to the temple itself:

  • (Spotted the transporting disc to the temple): “Those are statues of Lady Shar... what lies down here?”
    • (Suspecting Dark Justiciar actions in the region): “Carefully hidden. This must lead to somewhere precious to the Dark Lady.”
    • (Told the avatar about her dreams of becoming a Dark Justiciar): “This must be it. This must lead to where the Dark Justiciars came from.”
    • (Responding remark): “We should see where it brings us.”
  • (First time entering the temple): “A temple to Lady Shar. It almost seems like... no, surely it can't be.” Shadowheart passes Religion check here automatically
    • (Suspecting Dark Justiciar actions in the region): “I suspected there was something to be found, but this... the Gauntlet of Shar. I can scarcely believe my own eyes...”
    • (Told the avatar about her dreams of becoming a Dark Justiciar): “The Gauntlet of Shar, before my very eyes... the Dark Lady guided me here. She wanted me to find this place.”
  • (Heard the statue talking): “Lady Shar speaks...? But just some echo, surely. A guiding voice in stone.”
    • (Response to the voice of Shar): “I hear you, Lady Shar. I shall not fail.”
    • (Heard Shar speaking again, elsewhere in the temple): “That voice... is that Lady Shar...?”
  • (Trying to open a magically-sealed door): “Sealed with magic. It'll take more than nimble fingers and a lockpick to get past this...”
  • (Pushed off by force field around the statue): “Well that left me winded.”
    • (Saw any of the glowing rings around the statue): “Repulsed again... but that glowing ring I saw may show the way.”
    • (Responding remark): “The Dark Lady's path lies in darkness. Perhaps that is how I can proceed.”
    • (Pushed off by force field of the outer ring): “I can't just blunder forward - need to find a way around this ring...”
    • (Pushed off by force field of the inner ring): “Ugh, need to be more careful. I'm almost there...”

Elsewhere in the inner temple:

  • (Saw the giant statue of Shar): “Lady Shar... so many must have toiled to make a visage so grand. It's beautiful...”
  • (Wondering why dead Sharrans attack the party): “Why do Lady Shar's dead attack? Am I being tested...?”
  • (Spotted a Cloaker): “A cloaker! We walked right into its trap!”
  • (Found shattered Mirror of Loss, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “This mirror... it's so familiar. I've stood before one like it before. Felt its magic. What did it do...?”
    • (Failed): “This mirror... it must have been for more than just reflecting, once. A shame it's broken.”
  • (Killed Balthazar): “Farewell, Balthazar. You won't be missed.”

Dealing with Yurgir and Lyrthindor:

  • (Looking at orthon’s corpse installations in the temple, knowing about his presence): “The orthon's been having a little too much fun with these corpses, I think...”
    • (Not knowing about him): “There's a grim sort of artistry in how these remains are laid out. Someone has a creative streak...”
  • (Entering orthon’s lair): “You could almost row a boat through here, with all the blood that was spilled. What happened?”
  • (Felt orthon’s ambush, Perception check successful): “Something's wrong - this feels like a trap.”
  • (Looking at orthon’s bed): “A bed made of severed heads? That can't be good for your back.”
  • (Killed orthon, knows Raphael’s demand): “Looks like we've done Raphael's dirty work for him.”
    • (Not knowing Raphael’s demand): “Good riddance. That devil had no right to be here.”
  • (Joking at rats gathered near altar to Shar): “Even the rats have the good sense to pay homage to Lady Shar.”
  • (An infernal circle near the rat altar, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “A ritual circle - and an infernal one at that. What's it doing here...?”
    • (Failed): “Some sort of ritual circle... but not one that belongs here.”
  • (Found a scroll near the altar): “This spell... it claims to divide an individual into a whole crowd.”
  • (Fighting rats, between waves): “More vermin. Fine - they can keep coming, and I'll just keep on killing.”

Passing Trials of Shar:

  • (Entering the hall of Gauntlet Trials): “Countless initiates walked these halls once, seeking to become Dark Justiciars. I will follow in their path. I will succeed.”
  • (Starting Soft-Step Trial and read the hint book in the Silent Library): “It's like the book mentioned - get through the maze without being caught or setting off a trap... easier said than done.”
    • (Spotted by a Shadow during the trial): “Blast it. Got to try again - and not be seen this time.”
    • (Don’t have a hint from the book): “Lady Shar values those that can remain unseen and can still obtain what they want. Stealth is a virtue derived from her very essence.”
  • (Starting Self-Same Trial, read the hint book): “The book said I've to fight myself - a familiar foe, at least.”
    • (Don’t have a hint from the book): “The Dark Lady teaches us that we are our own worst enemy, much of the time. Her embrace will elude us until we shed that which holds us back.”
  • (Starting Faith-Leap Trial, read the hint book): “I'll need to remember where each platform is if I'm to get across - like the book described.”
    • (Don’t have a hint from the book): “The Dark Justiciars were said to be sure of foot in even the darkest recesses of Lady Shar's embrace. I must remember where to step, and have faith that she will guide me.”
  • (Trying to activate the altar, not having a single Umbral Gem in inventory): “Something should fit in here. Better find it.”
  • (Spotted the first Umbral Gem, not knowing its purpose): “A gem? It may be important.”
    • (Knowing its purpose): “That gem must fit upon the altar from earlier. Lady Shar guides me.”
  • (Found another Gem, not knowing its purpose): “Another gem. No coincidence, surely. They must have a purpose.”
    • (Knowing its purpose): “Another gem. One step closer to proving my worth to Lady Shar.”
  • (Collected all needed Umbral Gems): “That's the last one. The inner sanctum is within reach now.”
  • (In the Silent Library, pressed the correct button): “That worked. The door's open.”
  • (Picked up the Spear of Night, not knowing its purpose): “This is no ordinary spear... it may be important. Best keep it close.”
  • (Knowing its purpose): “This has to be it. This has to be the Spear of Night. The weapon Lady Shar bid me to wield.”
  • (Using the second transporting disc, knowing about Trials): “The disc is moving. One step closer to finishing Lady Shar's Gauntlet.”
    • (Not knowing): “That disc has started moving. Might be a quicker way to get around than the stairs.”

At the Verge of Shadows and in the Shadowfell:

  • (Entering the chamber before the Verge of Shadows): “This must be where initiates undertook their final preparations. The end is near.”
  • (Read a plaque before entering Nightsong’s prison, hasn’t got the Spear): “The sacrifice lies ahead. I must find the spear before going any farther.”
  • (Read a plaque before entering Nightsong’s prison, has the Spear): “The sacrifice lies ahead. I will not fail you, Lady Shar.”
  • (Upon entering the Shadowfell): “I feel... light? Almost like I could float away, if I cared to.”
  • (Prayer to Shar in Shadowfell 1): “Just a little bit farther. See my actions, Lady Shar. Hear my words of faith.”
    • (Prayer to Shar in Shadowfell 2): “Blessed Nightsinger, witness my adoration...”
    • (Prayer to Shar in Shadowfell 3): “Nearly there... have to keep going...”
    • (Prayer to Shar in Shadowfell 4): “I have vanquished your foes.”
    • (Prayer to Shar in Shadowfell 5): “Lady Shar's will shall be done. As sure as night will fall.”
    • (Prayer to Shar in Shadowfell 6): “Cloak me in your shadow. Guide me to your victory.”
    • (Prayer to Shar in Shadowfell 7): “I have emptied my hearts of falsehoods.”
  • (Delayed by Shar on the way out of the Shadowfell): “Please, my lady... forgive me..”

Resolving Nightsong’s fate:

  • (Saw Aylin trapped): “A terrible fate, to be trapped here so long.”
  • (Responding remark): “Ketheric and his minions were clever. Cruel, but clever.”
  • (Killed): “It's done, Shadowheart.”
  • (Responding remark to freeing Nightsong): “Ketheric will be vulnerable, now. All we need to do is strike.”
  • (Surrendered Nightsong to Balthazar): “We did what we had to do.”
    • (Responding remark): “Let's hope we chose the right ally.”

If playing Shadowheart as an avatar:

  • (Killed Nightsong): “The Nightsong is dead. Permanently.”
    • (Responding remark): “Let's hope the Lady of Loss is pleased.”
  • (Freed her): “What a sight. We chose a powerful ally.”
    • (Responding remark): “Ketheric is vulnerable - all we need to do is strike.”
  • (Surrendered Nightsong to Balthazar): “Ketheric has her now. It's done.”
    • (Responding remark): “I hope we chose the right ally.”

Moonrise Towers

  • (Read Melodia’s Letter to Ketheric): “Seems like Ketheric's wife loved him very deeply. No accounting for taste.”
  • (Feeling a ‘hangover’ upon LR after using Araj Oblodra’s unique potion): “Ugh, I feel awful. that potion's hit me like rancid butter ale.”
  • (Reminding the avatar about Minthara after her trial): “Perhaps we should consider helping Minthara. She may be a useful person to owe us a favour.”

In Balthazar's study:

  • (Found Balthazar’s book in his secret room, seq 1): “This 'Nightsong' sounds like the source of Ketheric Thorm's invulnerability.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “Something that powerful could be turned against Thorm.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “We'd need to find it, first of all. No simple feat.”
  • (Found Balthazar’s book in his secret room, seq 2): “This 'Nightsong' sounds like the source of Ketheric Thorm's invulnerability.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “That name... not the first thing you'd think to call an artefact of the Absolute.”
    • (Responding remark 2): “If we find it, we can use it against Thorm, perhaps.”
    • (Responding remark 3): “Finding it may be easier said than done.”
  • (Found Balthazar’s book in his secret room, seq 3): “This 'Nightsong' must be the source of Ketheric Thorm's invulnerability. But perhaps it could be turned against him.”
    • (Responding remark 1): “We'd have to find it, first of all. Doesn't sound easy.”
  • (Found Ritual circle in Balthazar’s secret room): “A ritual circle? Looks like it's what empowers the Moonlanterns.”
    • (If Gale already knows about it): “This looks like a matter for Gale.”

In the Moonrise Towers Prison and the Oubliette:

  • (Approaching the prison): “Prisoners. Not long for this world.”
  • (Responding remark): “I don't want to end up like them. Let's behave - or at least pretend to behave.”
  • (Found themselves in the prison after coming too close to the army): “I suppose standing up to an entire army wasn't my most cunning move.”
    • (Responding remark): “As a general rule, I try to avoid confrontations where my opponents number in the thousands.”
  • (Entered the Oubliette for the first time): “So much blood. I'm almost dizzy with the smell of it.”
  • (Returned to the Oubliette): “This place again. I'd rather not put my stomach to the test.”
  • (Investigating Oubliette, saw the colony through a flesh-wrought window): “Looks like there's something through there. Can't reach it from here, though.”
  • (Heard a screech in the Oubliette, has seen Hook Horrors): “A hook horror, by the sounds of it.”
  • (Hasn’t seen Hook Horrors before): “Sounds like something's angry - or maybe hungry. Best steer clear.”
  • (Climbing up from the Oubliette): “Ugh, I need a bath. Or several.”

At the Moonrise Towers Rooftop:

  • (Before entering the door to the rooftop to fight Ketheric): “Ketheric Thorm is close. Check your gear and say your prayers - this won't be easy...”
  • (Observing the landscape from the Moonrise rooftop): “Quite a view.”
  • (On the rooftop, looking into the tentacle hole): “We're not finished here - not until Thorm's dead for good."

Mind Flayer Colony

  • (Entering the colony, investigating): “Just how big is this place...? This lot aren't wanting for ambition, that's certain.”
  • (Looking at neutral Intellect Devourers): “They're not attacking - perhaps they think we're the same as them.”
  • (Approaching Mizora’s pod): “A cambion? The Absolute has eclectic taste in recruits.”
  • (Found brine pool, Perception check):
    • (Successful): “An empty brinepool. But then where are the tadpoles...?”
    • (Failed): “A brine pool. Empty, thankfully.”
  • (Caught the last tadpole): “Strange-looking tadpole. Might warrant a closer look - very carefully...”

In the Necrotic Laboratory and Morgue:

  • (At the Necrotic Laboratory, near ritual circle, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “Looks like necromancy - smells like it too. Turning people into undead.”
    • (Failed): “Not sure what this is... but I don't think I'm in a rush to find out.”
  • (Solved the mind puzzle): “Unlocked. I hope that was worth the effort.”
    • (Leaving the puzzle vault, answers Gale’s question): “I don't know. I'm just glad it fell.”
  • (Reading illithid manuscripts, Arcana check):
    • (Successful): “Mind flayer script - and it makes sense. Must be the tadpole acting as translator.”
    • (Failed): “This language is just gibberish... and yet strangely familiar also?”
  • (Found Mol’s eyepatch, met her): “Mol's eyepatch. This doesn't bode well for her...”
    • (Never met her): “An eyepatch. Not quite my style.”
  • (Feeling the effect of the Resonance Stone): “Strange, I almost feel like I've just, um... I feel good.”
    • (The effect ended): “Oh, well that didn't last long.”
  • (Entering the colony’s Morgue): “Smells like blood and tears. This place saw a lot of suffering.”
  • (Saw a blood pool in the Morgue): “Hells. How many lives where snuffed out to spill that much blood?”
    • (If the party has already been to the Oubliette): “So much blood. You could row a boat through it.”
  • (Splattered with blood from a morgue chute): “Wonderful. Now I'm splattered like a sloppy butcher.”
  • (Looking at the corpse that fell out with blood from the chute): “Leftovers from Moonrise. Not a peaceful death...”

Final fight with Ketheric Thorm:

  • (Before descending to Ketheric, saw nautiloid fleet): “ A whole fleet of nautiloids. Enough for an army of True Souls.”
  • (Activating the elevator while it’s at the same level): “Not much point when the platform's already here.”
  • (Taking the elevator down to Ketheric):Ngh... anyone else feel like their tadpole is set to burst?”
    • (Responding remark): “It's almost like it's excited by something. Drawn to it.”
  • (Started a final fight with Ketheric, Nightsong captured again): “Pointless attacking Ketheric while the Nightsong's bound to him - she must be freed!”
  • (Killed Ketheric Thorm, remained loyal to Shar): “Ketheric Thorm is dead - really dead, this time. Lady Shar's justice has been delivered.”
    • (Killed Ketheric Thorm, spurned Shar): “Ketheric Thorm is no more. And may he stay dead, this time.”
  • (Took Ketheric’s Netherstone after killing him as Apostle of Myrkul): “Hells, I could sleep for a tenday after that.”

Act Three

Wyrm's Crossing

  • (Approaching Rivington)
    • Shadowheart: The city is close now - my former peers will be watching, no doubt. Waiting for my return.
    • Shadowheart: We should do what we can to find them - what they know could help us.

Circus of the Last Days

  • (Inspecting Worthless Treasure Crates)
    • Shadowheart: Nothing but rubbish.
    • Shadowheart: This is fake.

Rivington

  • (Reading Shirra Clarwen's sarcophagus plaque) "This looks like the right one. Moment of truth..."
  • (Approaching Gur Camp) "If I was a Sharran lookout, this is the sort of place I'd wait around."

Angleiron's Cellar

  • (Using the Ladder, before opening the hatch) "Locked - and no keyhole. There must be a switch or something hidden around..."

Lower City

  • (Passing graffiti on the side of Elerrathin's Home) "That graffiti... it almost looks like it was done in my hand. Did I do this?"

Graveyard (Lower City)

  • (Interacting with Allistar Marnley's Grave) "Odd... I can't help but feel a twinge of sorrow at this grave. But why? Who is this?"
    • (Placing a Night Orchid at Allistar Marnley's Grave) "My favourite. A kind touch, thank you."

Wyrmway

  • (Passing History Check on Mural at the main entrance)
    • (Left mural) "An elf sailor with a bronze dragon. They look positively cosy together."
    • (Middle mural) "Balduran and his scaly friend admiring the city they created."
    • (Right mural) "Balduran sets sail while the dragon keeps vigil over the city."
  • (Chamber of Insight)
    • (Failing Sleight of Hand Check on flying books) "Blasted little thing slipped my grasp..."

Cloister of Sombre Embrace

  • Sharran
    • (Entering Infiltration Training) "All these disguises...we were taught that Lady Shar's warriors had to be able to hide in plain sight, wherever we went... I think this was my favourite part - losing myself in here. Being someone else, even just for a while."
    • (Entering Interrogation Training) "I learned how to inflict pain here, for Lady Shar. I can't remember the faces...but I think I can still hear the screams. A disquietening place...but you must inflict pain in order to end pain. Lady Shar's embrace can soothe all mortal torments."
    • (Approaching the main chamber) "The Mother Superior raised all of this from nothing, in secret. It took years. Soon it'll be mine. And with Lady Shar's blessing, it will become even greater."
    • (Entering the Night Orchid Cave) "My old haunt. Strange...I don't remember it, but its comforting to be here."
    • (Opening Jewellery Box) "Mother Superior's jewels - a gift from the queen of Suldanessellar... I suppose they're mine now. Curious. I could never tell if she was proud of them or not."
    • (Picking up Shar Headwear) "A Dark Justiciar helm. I wanted one of my own so badly...and the Mother Superior would always deny me."
    • (Entering Chamber of Loss) "Prisoners...? Is this my final task for Lady Shar?"
  • Non-Sharran
    • (Entering the Cloister of Sombre Embrace) "I remember this place now. A whole stolen childhood, spent in these halls. The Mother Superior must be close. Soon this will all be over."
    • (Entering Infiltration Training) "A cunning disguise can serve a warrior of the Dark Lady better than any armour. That's what they always told us. I think this was my favourite part - putting these on, pretending to be someone else. I suppose that's been my whole life."
      • (Passing 0-1 of 4 History Checks on an Outfit) "Strange. I thought for a moment I remembered these mannequins... But no."
      • (Passing 2-3 of 4 History Checks on an Outfit) "I don't think I ever wore this one. Shame - the colour might have suited me."
    • (Entering Interrogation Training) "I... I think I might have hurt people in here. Learned how to break their bodies, their spirits... Quiet in here now. But it wasn't always so. Screams rang off these walls. I swear I can almost hear them."
      • (Torture Rack) "How many people did I help break upon this thing...?"
      • (Torture Bench) "There's so much I can't remember, yet I picked up these implements... I'd know exactly what to do."
    • (Entering the Night Orchid Cave) "A little hideaway... why does this place seem so familiar?"
    • (Removing the black diamond from the altar) "The disc rose up... after I moved something on the altar?"
    • (Patriar's Loss) 'Only a Patriar's Loss can open this door.' If there's anything this city's nobility would hate to lose, it's their wealth."
    • (Reading the Interrogation Log in the Dormitory) "Githyanki. Research into the hunt for the Astral Prism, I'll wager."
    • (Opening Jewellery Box) "These jewels... why do I remember these, of all things? A gift from Suldanssellar, Mother Superior said. Curious. I could never quite tell if she was proud of them or not."
    • (Picking up Shar Headwear) "A Dark Justiciar helm. I wanted one of my own so badly... hard to imagine, now."
    • (Entering Chamber of Loss) "I... I see them. I see my parents. Gods... what's been done to them?"
  • (Bookshelves in the Dormitory) "These are all about me...forty years of my life, documented like I was some sort of specimen."

House of Hope

  • Outer Portals
    • (Looking at Portal to Athkatla) "This leads to Athkatla. Perhaps I'll see it for myself, some day."
    • (Looking at Portal to Neverwinter) "Raphael has a portal to Neverwinter. Imagine what tricks he must get up to there."
    • (Looking at Portal to Waterdeep) "A passageway to Waterdeep. The Mother Superior used to talk about this place."
    • (Looking at Portal to Mephistar) "A portal to Mephistar? I think I've had my fill of devilish strongholds, if it's all the same..."
    • (Looking at Portal to Luskan) "Luskan? Can't say I know much about the place."
    • (Looking at Portal to Menzoberranzan) "This leads to Menzoberranzan. The drow city must be quite a sight..."
    • (Looking at Portal to Baldur's Gate) "The way back to Baldur's Gate. Raphael will be returning through here before long..."

Party Banter

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Astarion Astarion Approval.png

  • Astarion: So, you and Lae'zel? Seems tense.
  • Shadowheart: Please, don't remind me. But keep your guard up with her.
  • Astarion: Noted.

  • Astarion: So, do you have loves waiting for you once this is all over?
  • Gale: You know what - that is not the easiest of questions for me to answer.
  • Shadowheart: You mean just waiting, like a lovesick puppy? Short-term amusements are much less hassle.

  • Shadowheart: Do you have someone waiting for you in Baldur's Gate, Astarion? A sweetheart perhaps?

(If it is not known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Astarion: Not one in particular. The city is a veritable feast of sweethearts.
  • Shadowheart: You must be eager to get back then. Slimmer pickings out in this wilderness.

(If it is known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Astarion: No sweethearts, no. I prefer them savoury.
  • Shadowheart: This is what I get for trying to strike up conversation.

  • Astarion: Shadowheart. Such a grim name for such a beautiful flower.

(If it is not known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Shadowheart: I heard you mumbling that line to yourself earlier - it needs more work.
  • Lae'zel: Fortunate for his tongue he didn't say it to me.

(If it is known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Shadowheart: Could you not stare so blatantly at my neck when you say that please?
  • Lae'zel: Oh, but do keep calling her 'flower'. She'll love that.

  • Astarion: Goblins are such vile little parasites.

(If it is not known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Shadowheart: Not the vilest any of us have seen of late, unfortunately.

(If it is known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Shadowheart: Given your own nature, are you really the one to judge?

  • Shadowheart: You know what I really miss about Baldur's Gate? The food. Freshest fish I've ever had.
  • Astarion: I don't care for fish. Red meat - now that's a different matter. Rare as can be... dripping.
  • Shadowheart: Well unless we find a cure you won't have any teeth to chew it with soon enough.

(If it is known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Shadowheart: So, Astarion. Which of us would you rather feed on? If you had free rein?
  • Astarion: Ah! Wyll. No question. He's strong, fast, and righteous. I'm salivating already.
  • Shadowheart: Hmm... interesting.
  • Astarion: You sound disappointed. I'll bite you if you ask.
  • Shadowheart: I'm sure you would. Don't sound so eager.

(If it is known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Shadowheart: So. A vampire spawn and a monster hunter in the same group. We're not going to have trouble, are we?
  • Astarion: Excuse me? Since this tadpole, I'm barely a monster at all.
  • Astarion: I just want to survive, same as you.
  • Wyll: I don't see a problem, as long as mister fang there keeps his appetite in check.

(At Sunlit Wetlands)

  • Shadowheart: Ugh, I hate swamps. The place reeks - probably full of bloodsuckers as well.

(If Astarion has tried to bite Shadowheart)

  • Astarion: I can't blame them. You're delicious.
  • Shadowheart: If that was an attempt at flirting, I should let you know I prefer the strong, silent type.

(If it is known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Astarion: Shadowheart! You wound me.

(If it is not known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Astarion: Probably.

(In the Underdark)

  • Shadowheart: Such depth to the shadows... I don't care what others say about the Underdark - it's beautiful down here.

(If it is not known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Astarion: I've spent long enough in the dark. It gets old.

(If it is known that Astarion is a vampire)

  • Astarion: I'm used to a crypt's gloom. This is something else.

(Near Rosymorn Monastery)

  • Shadowheart: I didn't exactly dress for hiking mountains. Shame we couldn't procure some pack mules, or horses.
  • Astarion: Horses? Perish the thought - those ill-tempered beasts are prone to biting.
  • Shadowheart: Well, so are you, but we keep you around, don't we?
  • Astarion: And I'm not offering any rides, if that's what you're thinking.

(At Shadow-Cursed Lands Forest)

  • Astarion: These woods feel unsettling - like they're dangling on the edge between life and death.
  • Shadowheart: Isn't that how you feel all the time, Astarion? I thought you'd find it comforting.
  • Astarion: Funny. Very funny.

(At Ruined Battlefield)

  • Shadowheart: Imagine what this place was like, on the day of the battle. The ground must have been covered with the dead...
  • Astarion: A tragedy - just think of all that wasted blood.
  • Shadowheart: You wouldn't actually feed in the wake of a battle, would you? You're not a vulture.
  • Astarion: Oh, I don't know. I've fed on things that would disgust most vultures.

(At Last Light Inn, if it's protected)

  • Astarion: Gods, whoever thought I'd be happy to see the Flaming Fist?
  • Astarion: Being in a land of cursed, angry shadows, you start to see things in a new light.
  • Shadowheart: Admit it - you're just glad to see some potential meals walking about after all those bloodless shadows.

(At Reithwin Tollhouse)

  • Shadowheart: I have to ask, Astarion. Do people taste different from one another, when you feed?
  • Astarion: It all depends. A clean neck certainly helps.
  • Shadowheart: Come on, you know I'm talking about their blood.
  • Astarion: Of course, there are different vintages. Young noble is wonderful if you can get it, but crone has its charms too.

(At House of Healing)

  • Astarion: It's a long time since I was in a house of healing. Gods, it's depressing.
  • Shadowheart: I suppose you don't have much use for hospitals... unless you're seeking to steal their blood stock.
  • Astarion: True, although I don't heal as fast as I used to. The one downside to the tadpole, I suppose.
  • Shadowheart: The one downside? I think you might have stopped the count too soon...

(At Gauntlet of Shar)

  • Astarion: I do like it down here. It's nice. Homey.

(If it is known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: This temple is positively dripping with power and dark beauty - is homey truly the first word that springs to mind?

(If it is not known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: This is a dedication to my goddess' power and dark beauty. Homey is not the first word that comes to mind.

(At Gauntlet of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: You're uncharacteristically quiet, Astarion. Awed into silence?
  • Astarion: Awed? By this? Please - size isn't everything. At least when it comes to temples.
  • Shadowheart: Well what would impress you, then?
  • Astarion: Oh, I don't know, but a little more colour wouldn't hurt. All the black and purple just makes me think of bruises...

(At Moonrise Towers)

  • Shadowheart: This must have been quite a place, in its heyday. Could you ever picture yourself living here, Astarion? You know, assuming the riff-raff were cleared out?
  • Astarion: Tempting, but it's not really for me.
  • Shadowheart: Really? Even with all these chambers, and the commanding views? You could live like a lord.
  • Astarion: But I'd have to climb so many stairs. Anyway, I already have my eye on a palace in Baldur's Gate.

(At the entrance to the Guildhall)

  • Astarion: What a delightfully secluded alley. I would have been in my element here, once.
  • Shadowheart: But you consort with a better class of people now, right?
  • Astarion: A different class of person. And a different type of consorting.
  • Shadowheart: Let's just stop this conversation right here, shall we?

(At Guildhall)

  • Astarion: Well, well. The fabled haunt of Nine-Fingers Keene.
  • Shadowheart: Never visited before? I thought you got around.
  • Astarion: I always steered clear. If Guild members started disappearing, people would start asking questions. And Cazador hated questions.
  • Shadowheart: Understandable, when the answer is invariably 'the silver-haired one ate them'.

(At Philgrave's Mansion)

  • Shadowheart: A distinct whiff of undeath to this place... though curious, I can't say I've ever noticed the same about you, Astarion.
  • Astarion: My 'whiff' is very faint, thank you - nothing a little bergamot, rosemary, and a hint of aged brandy can't hide.
  • Astarion: It's the perfect olfactory disguise for a corpse. Honestly, I missed my calling as a perfumer.
  • Shadowheart: You've clearly thought this through a great deal. I'm impressed and appalled in equal measure.

(At The Counting House)

  • Shadowheart: I don't suppose you really have much use for gold, do you, Astarion?
  • Astarion: It's not required, but it is nice to have. It buys any number of ways to keep life interesting.
  • Shadowheart: Go on then, coyness isn't in your nature. What would you do with unlimited funds?
  • Astarion: Let's just say blood tastes better from a gold goblet, and silk bedsheets improve any night-time activity.

(At Szarr Palace)

  • Shadowheart: So, Astarion. Vampire dens - what should I expect?
  • Astarion: Vampires would be a safe bet.
  • Shadowheart: Hilarious. You belong on stage - perhaps the bloodstained sort, with a hooded man standing by, axe in hand.
  • Astarion: So long as there's a cheering crowd. As for vampire dens, I'd brace your nose. They can be very... organic.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: Do vampires actually usually drink blood out of goblets like in the storybooks? Doesn't seem very fresh.
  • Astarion: Straight from the neck is preferred, but goblets are used in mortal company. They save on awkwardness.
  • Astarion: We could share a drink some night, if you're curious. A nice red wine in your goblet, of course.
  • Shadowheart: Very kind of you, but I'm saving my best bottle for someone already.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: Living without sunlight isn't so bad, Astarion. Where I came from, we would often work exclusively under cover of darkness.
  • Astarion: Yes, but you chose darkness. I was cast into it.
  • Astarion: The sun was banished from my life - forbidden. And we all lust after the forbidden, don't we?

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 3 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: I'm probably more at home in the water than you now, Astarion.
  • Astarion: Probably. Although I am two hundred years out of practice. Running water is no place for vampires.
  • Astarion: But perhaps I'll join you for a dip once everything is done. Then we could see who's best.

(If the player is romancing Astarion; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: I can't quite believe you've been a pick-up artist all these years, Astarion.
  • Shadowheart: Most of the things you say still sound like you're in a two-copper paperback read by little girls.
  • Astarion: I sound like a charming rake, you mean? The hero everyone fawns over?
  • Astarion: Well, if the doublet fits...

(If the player is romancing Astarion, and Astarion became an ascendant)

(Note: pronouns change depending on player's gender)

  • Shadowheart: Something has changed about our friend, hasn't it? But I can't quite put my finger on it.
  • Astarion: They're a vampire.
  • Shadowheart: This hungry look in their eyes... The haunted complexion... What could it mean?
  • Astarion: They're a vampire.

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Gale Gale Approval.png

  • Shadowheart: You seem to know a good deal about our condition, Gale.
  • Gale: Everything, really - not to put too fine a point on it.
  • Shadowheart: A humble specimen, aren't you?
  • Gale: On occasion.

(After long resting twice)

  • Shadowheart: Still no symptoms?
  • Gale: No signs of tentacles so far.
  • Shadowheart: The same... except for a knot of worry in my stomach that's in no rush to go away.
  • Gale: That I can relate to.

(Referring to what Gale said after recruiting Shadowheart (EA only))

  • Shadowheart: What did you mean before, Gale? 'A woman with shadows for eyes', you said.
  • Gale: Merely that if the eyes are the mirror to the soul, yours have dark curtains across the mirror. No offense taken, I hope?
  • Shadowheart: Not necessarily. I haven't made my mind up about you yet.

(Referring to what Gale said after recruiting Shadowheart (EA only))

  • Shadowheart: You seemed quite forward with your compliments earlier. We'd only just met.
  • Gale: Seize the day, I say. More now than ever.
  • Shadowheart: Careful you don't pull a muscle in your haste.

(At Emerald Grove)

  • Gale: The road to Baldur's Gate is a long one. Who knows how long it'll take these folks to get there on foot?
  • Shadowheart: If they make it. They're slow, vulnerable. Half or more will die long before Basilisk Gate.
  • Gale: Doesn't seem to trouble you a jot.
  • Shadowheart: What good would it do for me to be troubled? We can't save them all.

(At Last Light Inn)

  • Gale: Whatever I expected to find lurking in this cursed gloom, it certainly wasn't this. A glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
  • Shadowheart: That's one way of looking at it. You could also say it's a prime target - the one pocket of light in the gloom.
  • Gale: Pragmatism, thy name is Shadowheart. You're not wrong though - best we keep our sojourn here to a minimum.

(At Last Light Inn - Cellar Shrine)

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Imagine being compelled to hide a shrine in a land that is actively hostile to you and your goddess. Utter pigheadedness.
  • Gale: Tenacity might be a kinder word for it.
  • Shadowheart: I'll leave the kinder words to the softer hearts.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: A Selûnite shrine. It would've made my blood boil, once, just to look upon this...
  • Gale: You are lucky to have left that anger behind.
  • Shadowheart: I don't know... the anger was simple. I understood it, found comfort in it. Now I don't know what to believe.

(At House of Healing Morgue)

  • Gale: Look at this place. Such horrors defy description...
  • Shadowheart: Silence can be best. Give it a try sometime.

(At The Lodge)

  • Gale: The Society of Brilliance has quite the reputation. Even Waterdhavian academics refer to their works from time to time.
  • Shadowheart: They talk a great deal but do very little. Which may be for the best.
  • Gale: I take it you're not inclined to study the wonders of the underdark?
  • Shadowheart: Its inhabitants and cultures? Maybe. Its fungi and cave slime? No thank you.

(At The Blushing Mermaid)

  • Shadowheart: Not too downmarket of an establishment for you I hope, Gale?
  • Gale: Not at all. Why, some of the finest artists and musicians began their careers amidst stale beer and sticky floors.
  • Gale: There is poetry to be found in even the dingiest of holes.
  • Shadowheart: Remind me to not attend any poetry recitals with you.

(At Bonecloak's Basement)

  • Gale: My, my. Well I'll say this for the Bonecloaks - they know their mushrooms.
  • Shadowheart: Perhaps they should expand their horizons - too much time obsessing over fungi seems to leave a bit... well, like them.
  • Gale: A by-product of their profession. Few can spend a lifetime inhaling fungal spores without turning out a bit muddled between the ears.

(At Bhaal Temple)

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Why must the Dead Three be so obvious and ugly with their decor? Blood and bones. Bones and blood. Pointy nonsense. Now Lady Shar - she has panache.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Why must the Dead Three be so obvious and ugly with their decor? Blood and bones. Bones and blood. Pointy nonsense. At least Shar had some panache.
  • Gale: As did Mystra's home on Elysium. Her ribbed vaults and buttresses created a magic entirely of their own. Not to mention her pleasure domes...
  • Shadowheart: Heh. 'Pleasure dome'.
  • Gale: It's a perfectly legitimate architectural feature!

(At Steel Watch Foundry)

  • Gale: Gondian artificers might lack a certain worldly wisdom, but there's no doubting they're masters of their craft.
  • Shadowheart: You're a child at heart, Gale, admiring wind-up toys and clockwork trinkets.
  • Gale: I admire any who follow their curiosity to novel and unexpected means. This is how the world changes for the better.

(At Morphic Pool)

  • Shadowheart: The end must be near. No regrets, Gale? You may have been better off staying inside that boulder...
  • Gale: Unlikely. Had I stayed there much longer, the orb would have reduced it to rubble. Besides, think of all the fun I'd have missed out on.
  • Shadowheart: Fun? Well... yes. I suppose we did manage to make the best of things.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Gale: So... Shadowheart. Such a name implies yours is a difficult heart to find.
  • Shadowheart: It's not that hard to find. Perhaps any difficulty is more telling of you, Gale.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Gale: When we met, Shadowheart, your gaze seemed to linger in the distance on some unseen goal, some insubstantial purpose.
  • Gale: I notice now, your gaze settles on something, or someone, much closer.
  • Shadowheart: Is it that obvious?
  • Gale: Of course. There's nothing escapes a wizard's powers of observation.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selûne)

  • Gale: I must tell you, Shadowheart, the bathing waters here leave much to be desired.
  • Gale: The ablutions offered at the Temple of Beauty in Waterdeep are far superior. And they have the most excellent soaps.
  • Shadowheart: Hmm. I was wondering why you always smelled like a wealthy dowager.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Gale: So, you decided to bind yourself to your goddess, Shadowheart...
  • Shadowheart: That's ironic, coming from you.
  • Gale: I'm sure. But you might have learned from my experience. The gods demand more than vows when calling followers to the altar...

(If the player is romancing Gale; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: Isn't it so, that every time you speak as you cast a spell, you're endeavouring to call upon Mystra?
  • Shadowheart: I'm surprised she still listens to you.
  • Gale: She has no choice - she's sworn to hear all magic users. Even me.
  • Gale: I'm sure she at least stuffs her fingers in her ears to muffle my invocations.

(If the player is romancing Gale; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Gale: When you've loved a goddess - as I have - people often think you less experienced in the ways of romance.
  • Gale: It's true, for a time I neglected the physical in favour of celestial euphoria. But our relationship was no less real for it.
  • Shadowheart: 'She just lives on another plane.'

(If Shadowheart chose Selûne)

  • Shadowheart: Only jesting. I'm in no position to judge - especially after what happened with Shar.

(If it is known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Only jesting. I know all too well what it's like to pine after a goddess...

(If it is not known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Only jesting. I'm sure you're a force to be reckoned with.

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Karlach Karlach Approval.png

(At Forest)

  • Karlach: Ahh. Flowers, leaves, grass. Can't beat it.
  • Shadowheart: I was raised in the city - I'm more used to feeling cobblestones underfoot than grass and fallen leaves.
  • Karlach: Before I went to Avernus, I'd have agreed with you. Nothing quite like Baldur's Gate, is there?
  • Shadowheart: Nothing in my recollection, anyway...

(At Blighted Village)

  • Shadowheart: The whole village is falling to pieces. These goblins aren't exactly house-proud, as occupiers go...
  • Karlach: Wouldn't blame the gobs. Place looks like it's been abandoned a good while.
  • Karlach: But hey, maybe we can scare up a few dusty bottles of wine somewheres.
  • Shadowheart: I like your way of thinking. Split any takings we find?
  • Karlach: Sister, you've got a deal.

(At Sunlit Wetlands)

  • Karlach: Hey! Something bit me.
  • Shadowheart: Just an insect - I'm sure you'll survive. Besides, it probably figured you for a tasty treat.
  • Karlach: Give me an aboleth over a midge any day.

(At Grymforge)

  • Shadowheart: This place is hard to bear. I hope we're able to continue on our way before too long.
  • Karlach: I know what you mean. Everyone is so... unhappy.
  • Shadowheart: Oh. Well I meant more the molten rock and plunging chasms, but yes, the folk leave something to be desired as well.
  • Karlach: Present company excluded, of course?
  • Shadowheart: Oh hush, you. Stop fishing for compliments.

(At Rosymorn Monastery)

  • Shadowheart: A remote spot for a monastery. I suppose they wanted to make sure the monks avoided temptation.
  • Karlach: Yeah but look at these mountains. The height of temptation.
  • Shadowheart: No, I mean more like vices. You know - pleasures of the flesh.
  • Karlach: Met a loumara demon who married a mountain, though. It's a thing.
  • Shadowheart: I think the thin air might be getting to you, Karlach.

(At Crèche Y'llek)

  • Karlach: Gotta respect these gith. They don't fool around.

(If it is known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Oh I'm more than aware, trust me. I've had plenty of training in what to expect from them.

(If it is not known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: I'll certainly be treading very carefully, trust me.
  • Karlach: In that case, lead on, miss.

(On the road to Shadow-Cursed Lands)

  • Shadowheart: We've had some close calls already. There could be even tougher days ahead...
  • Karlach: Cheer up. It might be all downhill from here.
  • Shadowheart: Meaning things will start becoming easier for us, or our situation will deteriorate from here...?
  • Karlach: Exactly.

(At Reithwin Town)

  • Karlach: Since you're the only one in good form out here, I'll trust you to lead the way, Shadowheart.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Actually... I've been stripped of that particular advantage. But I will forge ahead, nonetheless.

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: It's a deal, so long as you watch my back.
  • Karlach: Atta girl.

(At Mason's Guild Rebel Hideout)

  • Shadowheart: I love a nice secret hideaway, don't you?
  • Karlach: I mean... I guess.
  • Shadowheart: You can just fill it with supplies, seal up the hidden entrance, and tuck yourself away from the world...
  • Karlach: Whatever you say, squirrelheart.

(At Gauntlet of Shar)

  • Karlach: Never knew Sharrans to be so... military.
  • Shadowheart: It shouldn't surprise you. We have been at war with Selûne since before most of history was written. An eternal conflict, from the viewpoint of mortals...
  • Shadowheart: Shar's entire creed revolves around waging war against Selûne. Imagine all the generations of mortals, sacrificed in an eternal conflict between sisters.
  • Karlach: Problem with eternal wars is they never end.
  • Karlach: Take it from me, a short, sharp personal vendetta is far less time-intensive.

(Approaching Moonrise Towers)

  • Shadowheart: Moonrise Towers. There used to be more than one tower, of course. The other must have been destroyed.

(If Karlach has only one real eye)

  • Karlach: I figured as much, what with my one good eye for seeing and fingers for counting.

(If Karlach still has both eyes)

  • Karlach: I figured as much, being the proud owner of eyes.
  • Karlach: ... sorry, no need for that. Must've put too much salt on my blood sausage this morning.
  • Shadowheart: Not at all. Nice to be on the receiving end, now and again. Keeps me sharp.

(At Moonrise Towers)

  • Karlach: I'm sweating bullets. What if I blow our cover?
  • Shadowheart: Simplicity is the key to a good deception. If in doubt, try thinking less.
  • Karlach: Yes ma'am.

(At Moonrise Towers Oubliette)

  • Karlach: Dark enough for you, Shadowheart?
  • Shadowheart: Nothing wrong with a nice subdued ambience. It can help flatter even the homeliest of faces.
  • Karlach: I'll try to keep my fire a gentle throb.

(At Moonrise Towers Prison)

  • Karlach: Prisoners!
  • Shadowheart: More like soon-to-be tadpole residences. Every infected prisoner will just make things harder on us...
  • Karlach: Let's go blast a brine pool, then.

(At Baldur's Mouth)

  • Karlach: I wouldn't mind doing a little shopping in the city.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Same. I think I may have overdone it with the black and purple for, oh, my entire life? Your look serves you well though.

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Lady Shar teaches us to abhor superficialities like fashion... though the city does have some fine boutiques. After a new look?
  • Karlach: I'm ten years behind; don't want the youths to think I'm not, you know, up with the times.

(At Bloomridge Park)

  • Karlach: Huh. There's something going on here. I don't like it.
  • Karlach: Careful. I smell an ambush.
  • Shadowheart: Are you sure it's not the flowers you're smelling? You may be allergic.
  • Shadowheart: But better safe than sorry, I suppose.

(At Morphic Pool)

  • Karlach: I can tell when we're getting close to a mind flayer area because everything starts to smell purple.
  • Shadowheart: That's either profoundly poetic or childishly simple. I'm going with poetic.
  • Karlach: A compliment from Shadowheart! I'll put it on the shelf with the rest of my achievements.

(If the player is romancing Karlach; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Karlach: Hey, Shaddy, got a quick question about the best way to treat an infernal burn.
  • Shadowheart: Shaddy? Really?
  • Karlach: Hearty? Shadsy? Or maybe just The Fringe?
  • Shadowheart: 'Shadowheart' will do just fine, thanks. Love is making you fanciful.
  • Karlach: You might be right.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Karlach: You look happy, Shadowheart. Like a Night Orchid in bloom.
  • Shadowheart: You must be imagining it.
  • Karlach: It's all over your face.
  • Shadowheart: It must be all the fresh air since the crash - has me flush.
  • Karlach: It looks good on you.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Karlach: So - why Night Orchids?
  • Shadowheart: Well, isn't it enough that they're beautiful?
  • Shadowheart: They remind me of some place - a place I can't quite remember. But I think I was happy there, wherever it was.
  • Shadowheart: Sorry. I'm being silly.
  • Karlach: You're cute.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selune)

  • Karlach: Must be lovely to have a swim without boiling all the fishes alive.
  • Shadowheart: Sounds pleasant to swim with you. At a distance. It's usually so freezing.
  • Karlach: Don't ask me to make a hot spring for you two. It might work. But I also might cook you like lobsters.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Karlach: To have someone who cares about you and throw them away. I don't know how you do it.
  • Shadowheart: Any restriction, any tether must be shed. Surely you understand that? It is a form of freedom, if a tragic one.
  • Karlach: I've had enough tragedy in my day. You have too. But Shar's got you in a chokehold.
  • Shadowheart: It's called an embrace. I suppose you don't receive many.
  • Karlach: Whatever.

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Lae'zel Lae'zel Approval.png

  • Shadowheart: So, gith. Aren't you worried your kind will punish you for consorting with us?
  • Lae'zel: My name is Lae'zel, k'chakhi.
  • Lae'zel: And my kin will understand my need for servants. They will help you, but only if I ask.

  • Shadowheart: Do you think your kin search for you, Lae'zel?
  • Lae'zel: I know they do not. It is my responsibility to cleanse myself.
  • Shadowheart: They pursued the nautiloid. Perhaps they were trying to free you.
  • Lae'zel: A vain notion. I am one of many and will not be a burden to my Queen.

  • Shadowheart: Lae'zel, how would you punish someone who wronged you?
  • Lae'zel: Wrong me how?
  • Shadowheart: Oh, say, murder. Or theft.
  • Lae'zel: Killing is good - it culls the weak. But theft would be paid for painfully, a thousand times over.
  • Shadowheart: Hmm. Good to know.

  • Lae'zel: Your sour face is tiring, Shadowheart. By all means leave, if I am so distasteful.
  • Shadowheart: I'd rather not turn my back on you, if it's all the same.

  • Shadowheart: I'll be keeping an eye on you, understand?
  • Lae'zel: If I choose to kill you, you will not even see it.

(After you've settled their fight over the artifact)

  • Lae'zel: I've been watching you fight, Shadowheart. Your skills are improving.
  • Shadowheart: My skills were just fine to begin with. You can save the compliments.
  • Lae'zel: I don't pay compliments. I make observations.

(After you've settled their fight over the artifact)

  • Shadowheart: So. Have we buried the hatchet, Lae'zel?
  • Lae'zel: No. Why would I bury a weapon? Is it broken?
  • Shadowheart: It's a metaphor.
  • Lae'zel: I do not know your metaphor. But if you need help digging, I will find a shovel.

  • Gale: I was wondering about your queen, Vlaakith. What tales of her reach us are terrifying, but I suppose that's not how you would describe her.
  • Lae'zel: Vlaakith is unity: fear and beauty, life and unlife. Eyes like onyx, teeth like daggers. There is none more perfect.
  • Shadowheart: Sounds vile. I assume the meaning of 'perfect' was lost in translation...

  • Shadowheart: What if this crèche doesn't work out, Lae'zel? What if your kin fail you?
  • Lae'zel: If I can reach the crèche, my kin will provide - any failure will be mine alone.
  • Shadowheart: If you say so. Just don't expect me to put all my eggs in the same basket.
  • Gale: That expression must sound curious to a githyanki ear, given the way they're birthed.

(In the Underdark, and before you've settled their fight over the artifact)

  • Shadowheart: Careful Lae'zel, it's dark around here. Would be a terrible shame to lose you forever.
  • Lae'zel: Yes, do keep your wits, Shadowheart. Should a dagger suddenly slice your neck, we may never know who's to blame.

(After the confrontation with the Githyanki at Mountain Pass)

  • Lae'zel: The traitor kith'rak takes great interest in this relic of yours, Shadowheart. Or should I say... weapon.
  • Lae'zel: What are you hiding?
  • Shadowheart: Nothing. I assume your kin are just as misguided as you are.

(Near Rosymorn Monastery)

  • Lae'zel: I believe we're approaching the crèche. Once we're inside, let me do the talking.
  • Shadowheart: Just to be clear - you're going to lead us into a nest of githyanki marauders, and we're supposed to trust that will end well for us?
  • Lae'zel: Is that a problem?
  • Shadowheart: More a sign of the times, I suppose.

(At Last Light Inn, if it's cursed)

  • Lae'zel: Last Light's defenders - slaughtered, every last one.
  • Shadowheart: They didn't deserve this.
  • Shadowheart: They were arrogant enough to try and withstand Lady Shar's power. This was always going to be the end result.

(Approaching Moonrise Towers)

  • Lae'zel: Moonrise Towers at last. Make no mistake - I will have answers about these ghaik tadpoles.
  • Shadowheart: Easy, Lae'zel - we need answers, yes, but you catch more flies with honey than vinegar...
  • Shadowheart: ... perhaps that doesn't translate. I don't know if githyanki have honey. Or vinegar. Or flies, even. Let's just show some restraint.
  • Lae'zel: I'm capable of restraint, just as you're capable of raw fury. I trust we'll find reason to exercise both here.

(At Moonrise Towers)

  • Lae'zel: I itch to draw my weapon and gut every last one of these cultists.
  • Shadowheart: You're keen. Just don't get carried away - some of those guts might be of more use to us unspilled, at least for a while.
  • Lae'zel: I know better than to indulge every craving, Shadowheart. But when the time is right, the Absolutists will feel the sting of my blade.

(At Moonrise Towers Prison)

  • Shadowheart: All those locked cells. A girl could cause all sorts of mischief with skilled fingers and a hairpin...
  • Lae'zel: You have done mischief enough with hairpins, if your tresses are an indication. The prisoners would be a hindrance.

(If Shadowheart was there when you saved Lae'zel from the cage, at the start of act 1)

  • Shadowheart: A hindrance, you say? Remind me, where did we fetch you from again? Oh that's right - a cage, caught by a couple of tieflings. Interesting.

(Else)

  • Shadowheart: I'd rather an extra burden than extra enemies. Anyone the Absolute has captive is one tadpole away from taking up arms against us.

(At Morphic Pool)

  • Lae'zel: Ready your weapons. This will not be resolved by wits alone.
  • Shadowheart: You're right - though I like to think my wits are the best weapon I have.
  • Lae'zel: Your high regard for your own wits is no secret to anyone.
  • Shadowheart: Touché, Lae'zel! Perhaps wits are contagious.

(If the player is romancing Lae'zel; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: I wouldn't have predicted the night you shared with our friend, Lae'zel. You didn't consider it beneath you?
  • Lae'zel: They were beneath me, at times. But also above me, And standing, at certain points.
  • Shadowheart: That's enough, I get the picture. Gods, do I get the picture...

(If the player is romancing Lae'zel; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: I'm a tad surprised you change into more comfortable garb at camp, Lae'zel. You strike me as a 'sleeps in her armour' type.
  • Lae'zel: It would cause too much noise during my nighttime... exertions. I do not wish to alert foes of our location.
  • Shadowheart: Nighttime exertions...? Oh, I see. Well, considerate of you, I suppose.

(If the player is romancing Lae'zel; after act 3 romance scene)

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: I am fond of Baldur's Gate, in spite of it's failings. It's the perfect place for Lady Shar's faith to take hold.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Baldur's Gate can be dirty, overcrowded, dangerous... but I do like it all the same. Found anything to admire in it, Lae'zel?
  • Shadowheart: How about you, Lae'zel? You're new to the city - found anything to admire in it?
  • Lae'zel: Admire it? As an overripe fruit ready for plucking, or a fattened calf awaiting the knife, perhaps.
  • Lae'zel: This place was constructed as if it wants a foreign power to pillage it.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Lae'zel: How do you maintain such an elaborate plait, Shadowheart? The craftsmanship is impressive.
  • Shadowheart: Now that you mention it, I can't remember who taught me. Another memory lost, perhaps.
  • Lae'zel: Still. If you let me watch your technique, I might learn it from you.
  • Shadowheart: Maybe. If you keep a respectable distance.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Lae'zel: You are debating allowing another into your heart.
  • Shadowheart: Quite the gossip, aren't you? Wouldn't have thought you cared.
  • Lae'zel: A formidable woman like yourself does herself no favours in revealing herself to be so erratic, so... uncertain.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selûne)

  • Lae'zel: I find the locals' fascination with 'the beach' is but a conspiracy for prudes to leer at each other unquestioned.
  • Lae'zel: Why does anyone bother wearing swim-garments at all?
  • Shadowheart: I'm not inclined to bother, myself, but I suppose it keeps the City Watch at bay.
  • Shadowheart: Some act as though displaying bare flesh is a more heinous crime than murder and robbery.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Lae'zel: I heard a curious sound in night. What would you know about that, Shadowheart?
  • Shadowheart: Lady Shar permits me to plead ignorance.
  • Lae'zel: I ask not of Lady Shar - but of you and your paramour.
  • Shadowheart: I haven't the faintest idea what you mean. Perhaps a cat pounced on its prey?

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Wyll Wyll Approval.png

  • Shadowheart: So. Wyll with a 'y' - why?
  • Wyll: 'Y', that's right.
  • Shadowheart: But why?
  • Wyll: Why 'y'? A great-uncle's name, my father said. But I just figured he couldn't spell.

  • Shadowheart: I saw you training those children. You were so gentle! That's... not how I was taught.
  • Wyll: Cruel words strengthen neither heads nor hearts, Shadowheart.
  • Shadowheart: I wouldn't quite say that - I learned the lesson, after all.
  • Wyll: And came to resent your tutor, I bet. I taught them to fight - not to hate.

  • Shadowheart: So Wyll, what was the Blade of Frontiers' toughest kill?
  • Wyll: Ah - it was a great scrap. A hungry minotaur with a hankering for human flesh.
  • Wyll: An axe-bearing mountain of fur, she was. Gave me a nasty scar.
  • Shadowheart: I hope you don't mind if I don't ask to see it.

(If it is known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Wyll: What's your gripe with Selûne anyway, Shadowheart?
  • Shadowheart: She betrayed her sister and ruined the balance of things.
  • Shadowheart: Imagine turning on those who love you for you own glory...

(If Mizora turned Wyll into a devil)

  • Shadowheart: Have you wondered what people will say, Wyll? When they find out the monster hunter is becoming a monster.
  • Wyll: I've faced countless perils and conquered them all. This will be no different.
  • Shadowheart: I've always had a soft spot for the confident ones...
  • Shadowheart: They always disappoint though.

  • Shadowheart: Fiend worship... I'm not trying to pick a fight, Wyll. But it really seems like a blatantly ill-advised idea.
  • Wyll: It's the furthest thing from my mind. Besides, Shadowheart - not all fiends are cut from the same scorched cloth.
  • Shadowheart: How do they differ, then? The number of horns? The exact timbre of their evil laugh?
  • Wyll: Could be most anything. Their willingness to torment their travel partners with wisecracks, for example.

  • Wyll: Ah, Shadowheart - how blessed I am to be so near.
  • Shadowheart: I heard you with Lae'zel - don't think I'll play second fiddle to the likes of her.
  • Shadowheart: Go try your charms on someone who's out of earshot.

(At Rosymorn Monastery)

  • Wyll: 'The Mysteries of the Monastery'. 'The Secret of the Crags'.
  • Shadowheart: What was that? I really can't abide mumbling, Wyll.
  • Wyll: I'm trying to decide on a title for this chapter of the Blade's adventures.
  • Shadowheart: Haven't you ever heard 'don't catch your chickens before they hatch'?
  • Shadowheart: Or perhaps 'Don't count your adventurers before they survive a arduous, danger-filled journey'?

(At Last Light Inn Graveyard)

  • Wyll: Tombstones. I'd half-expect to get a glimpse of Withers here.
  • Shadowheart: Don't even joke about it. Bad enough that he's haunting our camp, with his cryptic asides and his... overall mustiness...
  • Wyll: He's useful, as the not-so-alive, not-quite-dead go.
  • Shadowheart: 'Death is the Blade's companion' - isn't that what they say? I think I preferred it as a metaphor.

(At Mason's Guild)

  • Shadowheart: All this stonework has me thinking - would you ever want a statue of yourself, Wyll?
  • Wyll: It seems a rather... vain notion to me. But I can't say I haven't thought about it. How about you?
  • Shadowheart: I suppose it might be nice to be remembered - though I'd be less keen on having birds perching on my head for evermore.
  • Wyll: Think of the... er... mess they'd make. Well - better your statue's head than your own.

(At Moonrise Towers Docks)

  • Wyll: We're not taking a boat to Baldur's Gate, surely.
  • Shadowheart: A nice, leisurely voyage? The idea seems pleasant enough... but knowing our luck, we'd probably end up as easy targets the whole away.
  • Wyll: Exactly. Not that I'm one to refuse the scenic route, but I think we need to hike it.

(After defeating Ketheric Thorm)

  • Shadowheart: Sobering, to think that we've got even tougher battles yet to come.
  • Wyll: We've chipped away a piece of the Absolute. It will take all our might, all our will, to fully shatter it.
  • Shadowheart: I'm not despairing. Far from it. I just hope we're afforded a little breathing room before the next onslaught.

(While south of Wyrm's Crossing)

  • Shadowheart: You know, I'm starting to remember that Wyrm's Crossing has a bit of a reputation, doesn't it? A tad mercenary, a tad sordid. Anything and anyone for a price...
  • Wyll: Ah, but to little harm. Shouldn't we all be allowed to stoke a few fires from time to time?
  • Shadowheart: You sound like you're speaking from experience, Wyll. Perhaps you'll have to give me a tour - refresh my memory.
  • Wyll: Heh - I'm afraid you'd find my own stories rather tight-laced, Shadowheart. I was never one to sow my wild oats.

(At Basilisk Gate)

  • Shadowheart: A gallows? Nooses are for amateurs - that's what I was taught in the Grotto. Do you know how badly those things can go wrong?
  • Wyll: I'd rather not think of it, Shadowheart...
  • Shadowheart: You could strangle them by accident, use too much rope and break their legs... and if it goes really badly, you could wrench their heads right off.
  • Wyll: What a picture you pain. Quite detailed, quite colourful. Quite unnecessary.

(At Abandoned Cistern in the Lower City Sewers)

  • Shadowheart: You know what would be nice, just for a change? Venturing through a sun-dappled vineyard, or a gleaming palace.
  • Shadowheart: You know what would be nice, just for a change? Venturing through a mysterious bazaar, or a lush, dark wood, scented with lavender.
  • Wyll: Not so fond of the sewers, then?
  • Shadowheart: They have their purpose. I'd just rather we didn't have to wade through their purpose.

(At Flymm Cargo)

  • Wyll: I'm reminded of a book father kept hidden in a drawer. 'The Salty Mermaid'. Do you know of it, Shadowheart?
  • Shadowheart: 'Fabian ran his calloused fingers along Allura's scales. Her tail quivered in response...'
  • Wyll: ' 'Taste me', Allura pleaded. Fabian smashed his lips against hers and their tongues twisted together like two eels in the Sword Sea.'

(If Ulder Ravengard died)

  • Shadowheart: The pinnacle of good trash - even I can't forget that one too easily. Your father was a man of fine taste.

(If Ulder Ravengard is still alive)

  • Shadowheart: The pinnacle of good trash - even I can't forget that one too easily. Your father is man of fine taste.

(At Bloomridge Park)

  • Wyll: Spent a lot of time in this park as a boy battling imaginary monsters.
  • Shadowheart: So before you were Blade of the Frontiers, you were Pointy Stick of the Park? How did the imaginary monsters compare with the real thing?
  • Wyll: The monsters of my play-fights were strong, vicious. Trolls with hulking muscles, werewolves with sharpened fangs.
  • Wyll: But the greatest villains I've faced as the Blade? They look more like you and me than they do the beasts of my fantasies.

(At Harborview Park)

  • Shadowheart: Amazing how the city can seem almost peaceful at times, knowing all that goes on out there.
  • Wyll: 'All that goes on'?

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Consider the numbers. Someone out there must be having the worst day of their life. Being robbed, evicted, widowed, who knows? Then, easy prey for Lady Shar.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Consider the numbers. Someone out there must be having the worst day of their life. Robbed, evicted, widowed, who knows? No wonder Shar thrives, with such misery...
  • Wyll: If that's true, then so must be the opposite: there are people out there celebrating their lives' best moment.
  • Wyll: A wedding to their betrothed, a new baby, a windfall... the taste of an exquisite pudding...

(At Water Queen's House)

  • Shadowheart: Umberlee - a brutal goddess, from what I understand. Without even the slightest touch of subtlety to her.
  • Wyll: Subtlety isn't exactly your forte, given how you've strolled about wearing a circlet inset with Shar's symbol.

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: That's different. You'd be surprised how easily Lady Shar can hide in plain sight. People go around blinkered, caught up in their own lives.
  • Shadowheart: Besides... it suits me.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: You'd be surprised how people can miss what's in plain sight. I missed the fact that Shar was deceiving me. Besides, I have a new look now. Suits me, I think.
  • Wyll: On that matter, you'll hear no argument from me.

(If the player is romancing Wyll; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: Someone of your... social stature, Wyll. Are they typically allowed to pursue their heart's whims as they like?
  • Wyll: I don't have to ask for permission, if that's what you mean.
  • Shadowheart: Really? I'm surprised. I thought dowries, alliances and old blueblood feuds might have to be balanced against your desires.
  • Wyll: I'm my own man, Shadowheart... in this sense, at least.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 1 romance scene)

  • Wyll: Shadowheart - the way you paint around your eyes, they look permanently cloaked in shadow.

(If it is known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: It brings me closer to Lady Shar. One day, all of our eyes will feast on her endless darkness.

(If it is not known that Shadowheart is a follower of Shar)

  • Shadowheart: No harm in a little mystery...
  • Shadowheart: Besides, I think it suits my bone structure.
  • Wyll: And yet your bed-pillow bears barely a smudge. You are a woman of many talents.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Wyll: I saw you pressing a bunch of flowers the other day in a book.
  • Wyll: Not like you to keep something forever.
  • Shadowheart: They'll crumble away in time... but no harm in appreciating their beauty until then.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selune)

  • Wyll: Even if you and our friend ended up having werewolf cubs, they'd be so adorable.
  • Shadowheart: Ahem. I've shown no signs of lycanthropy, thank you very much... but should that change, I'll take it you're volunteering to be child-minder.
  • Wyll: Hm. Buy me some protective gloves, and I'm all for it.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Wyll: I think it's a true shame, that your goddess doesn't allow for love.
  • Wyll: Do you regret it?
  • Shadowheart: I could never regret fulfilling my life's purpose. Besides, Lady Shar may afford me a little... wiggle room.

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Halsin Halsin Approval.png

(In Shadow-Cursed Lands)

  • Halsin: Once, you could hear nature's symphony in this place. Now it is quiet. Quiet and dead.
  • Shadowheart: I can make some animal noises, if it'll make you feel more at home.
  • Halsin: You bleat well enough as it is.

(At Shadow-Cursed Lands Forest)

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Chin up, Halsin. I know you don't favour Lady Shar's darkness, but look - trees!
  • Halsin: I will not be taunted in this place - not after all it has taken from me. Show respect, or you will force my hand.
  • Shadowheart: Is that so? It's quite a hand...

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Halsin... were there ever wolves in these woods?
  • Halsin: Once, certainly. But not for a hundred years. Any that still prowl this land can scarcely be called wolves any longer.
  • Shadowheart: I see... a hundred years is too far back, for what I had in mind. No matter.

(At Grand Mausoleum)

  • Shadowheart: So this is where you interred Ketheric Thorm, Halsin? Couldn't you have done a little more to prevent his return...?
  • Halsin: We did the best we could, under dire circumstances. You would suggest otherwise?
  • Shadowheart: All I'm saying is that it's more difficult to come back from the dead if you were chopped up and had the pieces delivered to different corners of the realm.

(At Gauntlet of Shar)

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Halsin: Shar's armies of destruction arose from within these halls.
  • Shadowheart: Those who do not listen to the reason of Lady Shar words must instead feel the keenness of her blade.
  • Halsin: You sound like a student - reciting words for a test without considering their meaning.
  • Shadowheart: I've considered them plenty. Besides, Lady Shar favours action over words. Try it out, sometime.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Halsin: I daresay you are no longer comfortable in this place, Shadowheart.
  • Shadowheart: That's an understatement if I ever heard one.
  • Halsin: True. But you are among friends. Whatever lies ahead, we shall face it together.
  • Shadowheart: Thank you.

(While assaulting Moonrise Towers)

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Odd that you're fighting Ketheric Thorm again, only this time with a warrior of Lady Shar at your side.
  • Halsin: They say that history does not repeat, but it does rhyme, now and again. This is a rather unharmonious example.
  • Shadowheart: Indeed. 'Shadowheart and Halsin, Sharran and Bear. Who would have dreamt of an alliance so rare'.
  • Halsin: Like I said - unharmonious.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Second time's a charm, eh, Halsin? Let's make sure Ketheric Thorm is gone for good this time.
  • Halsin: Indeed. Though I wondered if you might have some empathy for him... both being former disciples of Shar.
  • Shadowheart: Hardly - he's merely one more obstacle - and a killable one, now that Nightsong is free.

(At Mind Flayer Colony)

  • Shadowheart: This place is like some moist, unappealing maze. Can your nose guide us, Halsin?
  • Halsin: I fear not. The vapours in this alien cloaca are most bizarre.
  • Shadowheart: Cloaca...? You could have just said tunnels, you know. I'm nauseous enough as it is.

(At Steel Watch Foundry)

  • Halsin: The birthing ground of those steel monstrosities. I would feel little sorrow if this place should close forever.
  • Shadowheart: Oh come on, you have to be at least a little impressed by the craftsmanship. There's only so much you can do with wood.
  • Halsin: Not so, in my experience. There is little I cannot whittle.
  • Shadowheart: Did you do that on purpose...?

(If the player is romancing Halsin in act 3)

  • Shadowheart: Halsin, if I were a druid, what animal do you think I'd be?
  • Halsin: Given your memory issues, perhaps a goldfish?
  • Shadowheart: I'd hoped for something a bit more exotic... but would you carry around my fish bowl, feed me flakes of food?
  • Halsin: Only the finest, of course.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selûne)

  • Halsin: I heard you learnt how to swim, Shadowheart - well done.
  • Halsin: You know, if you and your love ever wish to enjoy the waters with me, I could attempt a kelpie... or even a porpoise.
  • Shadowheart: Depends, are you buoyant? I may need a life preserver if I get in over my head.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Halsin: I heard what took place at Selûne's shrine, Shadowheart. Was such defilement truly necessary?
  • Shadowheart: Lady Shar demanded an offering, and I provided. Are you truly that scandalised, Halsin?
  • Halsin: More disappointed, I would say.
  • Shadowheart: Sounds like jealousy, to me. I couldn't risk your wild side getting too excited at the scent of blood...

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Minthara Minthara Approval.png

(At Last Light Inn, if it's cursed)

  • Shadowheart: Gone. Swallowed up by the shadow curse.
  • Minthara: Not before time. They hoped to stand against Ketheric with little more than a trick of the light to protect them.

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Worse - they defied Lady Shar's power, openly. Now they have paid the price.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: They were desperate. Nobody deserves this.

(At Reithwin Town)

  • Shadowheart: This place was ruined rather thoroughly. I'm starting to forget what a habitable village looks like.
  • Minthara: Your Sharran kin are responsible for this ruin. They purged these lands even before the shadow curse, and pillaged all they could find.

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: No... this must have been due to the battle. Lady Shar's warriors would have little interet in looting...
  • Minthara: Come, Shadowheart. Do you think prayers alone can keep an army on the march?
  • Shadowheart: Even those devoted to loss fill their pockets and bellies when the chance arises.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Not my kin - not any longer. Their past deeds are not my responsibility.

(At Mind Flayer Colony Tadpoling Centre)

  • Shadowheart: Ugh. This place brings back unwelcome memories of a tadpole slipping behind my eye...
  • Minthara: Appalling. I am glad my memories of the infection are not so clear.
  • Shadowheart: Oh yes, I forgot - you had your love of the Absolute to mask the ugly parts.
  • Minthara: Do not call it love. It was poison.

(At Rivington)

  • Minthara: The excess of refugees outside the city walls could easily become a surplus of labourers.
  • Shadowheart: Careful, Minthara. As a drow exile, you could be classed as a refugee yourself. Not volunteering, I take it?
  • Minthara: I am a daughter of House Baenre. I obey no authority except my own desires.
  • Shadowheart: I can think of a least one wriggly stowaway who might dispute that...

(At Wyrmway)

  • Minthara: What sweet relief to shelter from the sky for a while.
  • Shadowheart: Sunlight giving you a headache? You're not supposed to stare right into it, you know.
  • Minthara: That was due to your insipid conversation, half-elf.

(At Felogyr's Fireworks)

  • Minthara: Amusing as it is to provide children with such lethal toys, surely there are better uses for this powder?
  • Shadowheart: Plenty. They can make for excellent distractions, should you need to make a quick exit.
  • Shadowheart: Partly why the Ducal Council controls supply - trying to keep the whizz-bangs out of nefarious hands.
  • Minthara: The Ducal Council must have sprung a leak, for we seem to find barrels of the stuff everywhere.

(At Sorcerous Sundries)

  • Minthara: I must admit, some of the items here are quite marvellous.
  • Shadowheart: Baldur's Gate prices, though. Not worth it, if you ask me.
  • Minthara: I shall be careful not to ask you then, child.

(If the player is romancing Minthara; after act 2 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: Any doubts about falling for a foe, Minthara? Or does that just add spice to things?
  • Minthara: I do not fall for my foes. I vanquish them.
  • Minthara: I cannot love who I do not trust, with either my heart or my body. I am fortunate to have found someone worthy.

(If the player is romancing Minthara; after act 3 romance scene)

  • Shadowheart: Is drow society as the books say? It almost sounds tempting - matriarchal power, flourishing to its greatest extent.
  • Minthara: It flourishes because the strong feed on the weak. Charming as you are, child, you would be nourishment for the matrons mothers.
  • Shadowheart: ...Of course.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selune)

  • Minthara: I may not weep for my home, but I would take a mushroom over a flower any day.
  • Shadowheart: I would have said I admire fungi as well.
  • Shadowheart: Until I met such a thing you call a Myconid.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Minthara: I cannot tell if you are more a deviant or a debutante, Shadowheart.
  • Minthara: I would like to test both aspects of your character when next you find yourself alone at night.
  • Shadowheart: I'm not quite sure I like where this is going.

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Jaheira Jaheira Approval.png

(While south of Wyrm's Crossing)

  • Jaheira: Wyrm's Crossing. This place has been a haven, when Harpers were less than welcome in the city proper.

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: It is always wise to have another redoubt, another escape route. Though I assumed your lot's antics would have secured you the love of the masses.
  • Jaheira: Oh, a Harper does not go in for public acclaim. We work in shadow and secrecy, tragically unacknowledged by the ungrateful herd.
  • Shadowheart: Lady Shar's children toil similarly... but we know there is no need to seek the favour of others. Our lady's love is all we need.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Seems hard to imagine your efforts haven't always been appreciated.
  • Jaheira: Oh, a Harper does not go in for public acclaim. We work in shadow and secrecy, tragically unacknowledged by the ungrateful herd.
  • Shadowheart: Hmph, sounds familiar.

(At Morphic Pool)

  • Jaheira: And now another 'final' battle. This small band has gone further than any army could have in its place.
  • Shadowheart: You didn't seek to gather the Harpers for one last charge? Fodder for heroic ballads yet to be written, perhaps.
  • Jaheira: Not at all - Harpers fight dirty. A well-timed strike, with the knowledge of just where to place it, and suddenly superior numbers count for nothing.

(If Shadowheart is still loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: You must have been following the example of Lady Shar's children then - they do say imitation is a form of flattery.

(If Shadowheart no longer loyal to Shar)

  • Shadowheart: Sounds much like the Sharrans - hopefully that's where the similarities end.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selûne)

  • Jaheira: Shadowheart. You should know - Viconia was not half so heartless as she liked to appear.
  • Shadowheart: I knew her well enough. You might have travelled with her for a time, but she trained me. What's your point?
  • Jaheira: Only that I find it hard to believe that she could have raised you, and felt nothing for you.
  • Shadowheart: Perhaps she took some pride in her work, forming me to Shar's liking. She certainly relished wielding the rod..
  • Shadowheart: ... but who knows. Perhaps someone else made her that way, as she tried to do to me.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Jaheira: Tell me, Shadowheart - how does Shar's favour feel? Does it fill you up, bring you joy?
  • Shadowheart: A nice vintage or a comfortable bed bring me joy. This is much more than that. This brings me purpose.
  • Jaheira: So humbly spoken. Perhaps you are a different breed than the last Mother Superior.
  • Shadowheart: Time shall tell. At the very least, I can learn from her mistakes.

Shadowheart Approval.png Shadowheart and Minsc Minsc Approval.png

  • Shadowheart: Hey Minsc, what was it like, being a statue?
  • Minsc: Dark. Lonely. Helpless.
  • Shadowheart: The dark is Shar's domain. You wouldn't have been lonely if you embraced her.
  • Minsc: Evil! Never!

  • Shadowheart: Hey Minsc, How do you judge what's evil?
  • Minsc: Enough trick questions! Evil is clearly evil.
  • Shadowheart: Am I evil? You called my goddess so.
  • Minsc: If I decide you are evil, my blade will inform you of the fact.

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Selune)

  • Minsc: Shadowheart. I saw you pluck Boo from the ground, when you thought no one was watching.
  • Minsc: It pleases you, to hold him? And you have truly cleansed yourself of Shar?
  • Shadowheart: I suppose you're right. On both counts.
  • Minsc: HMMMMMMMM. Then for one day only, you may carry him in your pocket. So long as it is clean. Padded. Well-aired.
  • Minsc: And full of nuts!

(If the player is romancing Shadowheart, and Shadowheart chose Shar)

  • Minsc: Boo will not permit himself to be held by you any longer, Shadowheart.
  • Minsc: He fears you will sacrifice him in some Sharran ritual of dark oils and leather.
  • Shadowheart: Oh, he's far too precious for that. I'll go find a comely barmaid or guardsman instead.

Notes

  1. These banter lines appear in certain episodes while the party is in non-teleportable areas. In other similar cases, an attempt to speak with Shadowheart prompts a single-line cinematic dialogue
  2. These lines appear if Shadowheart is another avatar's companion
  3. The githyanki Losiir appears only in case when one of the players has chosen Lae'zel as a character origin
  4. Flumphs are a sentient race that inhabits the Underdark. They are known to reproduce themselves through a budding process, hence the bemusement of party members. Also, flumphs express their emotions by changing body colour, which is probably the point of Shadowheart's ironic remark when the disguise magic is dispelled. More on these creatures can be found at Flumph on the Forgotten Realms Wiki
  5. An illusion spell that allows to transfer a voice message to anyone who activates a certain trigger. It is not available to cast or learn within the game. Apart from the monastery, active spells can also be found in the Thorm Mausoleum and in the Undercity Ruins, on the path to the Bhaal Temple. More on it at Magic mouth on the Forgotten Realms Wiki
  6. As long as Shadowheart remains a follower of Shar, the Shadow Curse does not affect her, unless the party wanders into a deeper curse domain (Reithwin Town and further). However, the curse will start affecting her just as badly as any other character, if (and when) the player acting for Shadowheart takes the decision to spurn Shar.
