Kith'rak Voss is a ruthless Githyanki knight in the service of his queen, Vlaakith, and rides a red dragon steed named Qudenos.
Gameplay
- During Act One, the player may first encounter Voss if they venture close enough to the "Mountain Pass" area to the northwest of Waukeen's Rest. Voss will first be seen astride Qudenos, landing nearby to give orders to the other Githyanki.
- After this initial cutscene ends, Voss will begin pacing the area around the dead Flaming Fists' and the other Githyanki under his command. At this point, the player has the option to walk up to Kith'rak Voss and initiate conversation with him, and if present, with Lae'zel and Voss.
- Several possible outcomes for this scene will trigger a combat encounter where Voss orders the other Githyanki to attack. However, Voss himself has not yet been observed to take part in an encounter triggered by this conversation.
- It is plausibly still possible to attack Voss without triggering this conversation,[Needs Verification] but he will always leave the scene on his own once the conversation concludes.
- Wiki contributors have not yet observed (or recorded here) if Voss does anything special during his later meetings, and if conversations with him ever end up with him joining in combat after Act One.[Needs Verification]
Interactions
Act One - Conversation
Spoiler warning: The following content contains unhidden spoilers for Act 1. |
If Kith'rak Voss or his Githyanki underlings are approached by the player, he will interrogate the player about the object of his mission, the Mysterious Artefact, which he believes is a powerful weapon that can be used against the Mind Flayers. Regardless of how the interrogation ends, Voss will depart on Qudenos once the dialogue has finished.
Lae'zel, if alive, will have interesting interactions with this sequence of events whether she is in the party or not.[1] Voss will still speak to, and can even be friendly, to non-Githyanki speaking characters, but Players using a custom origin Githyanki or simply using a Githyanki racial appearance (e.g. via Disguise Self) will observe interesting dialogue choices, and responses from Voss, during this first conversation with him.
It is possible to allow Lae'zel to approach the Kith'rak alone, which will cause her to leave the party - but this may be temporary depending on what the player does next. If the player decides to let time pass such as by performing a Long Rest, and specifically does this after Lae'zel has approached Voss, but before the player walks up and speaks to Voss themselves, Lae'zel will die, Voss will be gone, and the other Githyanki under his command will be hostile.
Act Two - Campsite Visit
Spoiler warning: The following content contains unhidden spoilers for Act 2. |
After completing the Discover the Artefact's Secrets quest, Kith'rak Voss will make a surprise visit when you fast travel or Long Rest outside of the Creche. He will speak directly to Lae'zel, trying to reason with her about the truth of Vlaakith's tyranny after her own recent betrayal. Further, he will claim to be opposing Vlaakith's reign and how the occupant within the Artefact is the key to her being overthrown. A critical choice must be made:
- If you chose to listen with him and reason with Lae'zel, he will urge to meet him again in Baldur's Gate at the Sharess' Caress.
- Or you can urge Lae'zel to attack him, leading to an optional boss fight. This will have considerable consequences, yet earn you Voss' Silver Sword. The Letter to Voss on his body will direct you to Sharess' Caress, continuing The Githyanki Warrior questline.
Spoiler warning: The following content contains unhidden spoilers for Act 3. |
Voss can be found in Sharess' Caress in Wyrm's Crossing, trying to make deal with Raphael in the Devil's Den, but Voss has nothing to offer him. Raphael is in possession of the Orphic Hammer - a tool that can break the cage that holds Orpheus - the githyanki prince, son of Gith.
A long time ago Orpheus knew that Vlaakith I had betrayed his mother, and he led Gith's Honor Guard in a revolt and named himself the rightful king of the Githyanki, triggering the War of the Comet. At the head of the Honor Guard mounted on red dragons, Orpheus fought Vlaakith's knights in a battle in the Astral Plane, where he praised Gith and accused Vlaakith. Yet he was overcome and defeated by Kith'rak Voss on Qudenos and imprisoned within the Astral Prism, so that Vlaakith I (and now Vlaakith CLVII) may exploit the powers he inherited from his mother.
Years later Voss realized that Vlaakith does not act in the interests of Githyanki, and so he has sworn to free Gith's rightful successor.
Act Three - Lower City Sewers
If the party signs the deal with Raphael, they can show it to Voss immediately. Voss gifts the party a silver sword, a precious cultural item of the Githyanki. He then departs to prepare his forces to take on the Elder Brain.
If the party refuses the deal, Voss relocates to the Lower City Sewers near the Undercity Ruins waypoint. There, he waits for the party and will grant them the sword before leaving to gather his forces.
Trivia
- Kith'rak is a high-ranking Githyanki military title.
- Lae'zel states that he has served as a knight since Vlaakith I, the first queen of the githyanki; this would mean that he is potentially thousands of years old given the stasis of time in the Astral Plane, and later dialogue from Lae'zel stating that the "current" queen Vlaakith, is many, many generations removed from Vlaakith I.
